Up To No Good.

Dan listened to the Professors words. Dan knew that the Professor's advice to take the opportunity to apologise was a good bit of advice, and in some other situation, Dan may have taken his advice. But as much as Dan didn't really show it. The Professors were just getting on his nerves now. He'd rather play with their tempers in detention, instead of staying in the office any longer.

Dan slouched in his chair a little more as he thought about his next words. "Well maybe a detention with the likes of you two would be a little more fun than getting myself into trouble with another Professor..." Dan trailed off, as he shifted in his chair then rose to his feet. "So uh, no apologies of mine will be aimed towards her. Today Professor Fletcher, I apologise to you, because you're the one whose going to have to waste your time with me in detention..." Dan smirked as he headed towards the door. As he grabbed the door handle, Dan turned back to the Professor's. "So um, when's this detention? Am I dismissed? And I'll see you soon." Dan said, not opening the door just yet. He wanted to hear the Professor's response first.

Fletcher knew he was fighting a losing battle. He would monitor his behaviour over the course of the semester, asking his Professors for reports if he stepped out of line. "Sit back down Mr. Adams" He said irritated. He was just downright rude. "This isn't over till I say it is. Now, back to the matter at hand. What is your problem with lessons and the Professors? The lessons are vital for you to pass your O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts. It is imperative you get good grades to increase your chances of securing a job when you finish Hogwarts. Tell me Mr.Adams, have you any idea as to what you want to be when you leave Hogwarts?

"Oh and just a word of warning, I'd advise you to apologise to Professor Weasley, after all she will be deciding what your detention involves, and will be supervising you" Tom added, seeing how he would react to this news.

Dan figured that Professor Fletcher wasn't going to be having any of his cheek. But that wasn't necessarily going to stop Dan from being cheeky, or just plain rude. Dan returned to his seat, and slumped himself over the arm of the chair. Dan had learnt not to care over the years, but as much as he appeared not to care about his future...he really did. Dan had ambitions, just like every other student, but Dan wasn't going to voice them, not to any Professor anyway. "So say I go to lessons...what happens...the Professors don't like me, so I play them up, then what, I get sent to you, and I get another detention..." Dan said, trying to get his point across.

Dan listened as the Professor started back on the subject of apologising to Professor Weasley again. Did he not understand him the first time. "Did you not listen to a word I said just now?" Dan questioned the Professor. "Do you even know the first thing about me?...As my head of house, maybe you should..." Dan paused for thought. "And maybe you should try a different approach if you want me to apologise." Dan said, knowing that he wasn't helping himself here, but there was something that was keeping him going.

Barely containing her jaw from dropping, Professor Weasley listened as Dan spoke to her. She was no stranger to rudeness or disrespect coming from others, but from a student to her was nearly unheard of. She usually got along well with her students, and treated them all with the same respect they gave to her. This boy, however, didn't seem to care. As Professor Fletcher came to her rescue and spoke to him, Cyndi remained silent but fuming.

She didn't expect an apology from Mr. Adams, so when none came and he explained that one would never come, she was expecting it. She didn't know what exactly she had done to infuriate him other than bring him to his head of house, but it was obvious that the boy didn't think she was worth his respect. She'd never dealt with anything like that from another Gryffindor. Her other housemates when she had been in school had given her nothing but the utmost respect, especially the younger ones. As Fletcher told him that she would be administering his detention, Professor Weasly smirked quickly before replacing it with a neutral expression. "Perhaps the professors wouldn't not like you if you actually tried to listen to them instead of flying off the handle every second. Nobody is out to get you Mr. Adams..." she said, trailing off. She wondered what he meant by a different approach. It didn't seem as if he had any intention of apologizing, so she didn't see the point of a different approach.

"Exactly" Tom said, listening to Cyndi's point. "We Professors are fair, we treat each student the same, unless they act like you have just been. Now I have offered you an opportunity to show us just how mature you can be, and to show that it was just a one off, but you threw it back in my face. You only have yourself to blame. Your actions are the fuel for the flame. No one else is treating you how you have been treating us" Tom said to him, shaking his head at how belligerent he was being towards them. He looked at how hostile he had been towards them. His actions had been perfectly fine towards Mr.Adams, and he was sure Cyndi's actions had been fine aswell. It seemed he lacked the respect for people with authority. Perhaps he was jealous of having no authority. "Which Professors do you not get on with?" Tom asked, pretty sure the reply would be the majority, if not all the staff. "And what approach do you suggest, Mr Adams? Please explain"

Dan chose to ignore Professor Weasley. It wasn't so much her that was annoying him now, just being a typical Professor, giving wise advice. It was infact Professor Fletcher. Dan didn't like being questioned by his friends let alone his head of house. Dan tried his best to remain calm, but allowed some cheek to come out to.

Dan chose to stick with the obvious answer to his first question. "I ain't no grass...not even to Professors, but most of them hate me..." Dan said bluntly. Dan thought for a second before answering the Professor's next question. Dan wondered if he really wanted a different approach or whether he had just mouthed off again about something that he knew nothing about himself. "I dunno, but you know I don't 'do' school, maybe if I had something to make me like this place..." Dan trailed off, speaking grumpily as he looked around the room, failing to find anything to keep him amused.

"Perhaps you don't like school, because you don't make the attempt. I think Teacher's would like it, if you actually stopped "bunking" from lessons, and so making the effort to turn up, and then worked hard in lessons and perhaps on homeworks. That would decrease, the amount of pressure on you, and you wouldn't be so hostile towards members of staff. Perhaps, if I could add, be more pleasant towards your student peers, they may start to see you in a different light if you made more of an effort to be kind to them, and hopefully you will gain something from it. After all, manners cost nothing"He looked at the boy. Perhaps he would take note of what he'd just said. See things in a different light. He hoped he would, for his benefit. After all, it was his future at stake if he didn't attend lessons. He looked up at Dan, seeing what he had to say for himself.

Dan listened to what the Professor had to say. What he was saying made sense to Dan, but socialising wasn't something that came naturally to Dan, his temper was short, as many had found out, and the smallest things would get on his nerves. Dan always found himself blaming his past for his attitude towards life, but his past was in the past now. This was the future, and Dan needed to deal with that.

Dan thought for a moment after the Professor had finished speaking. Of course he wanted to do well, if you dug deep enough, that would show. But Dan wasn't one for showing his true feelings so easily. Dan's attitude towards this Professor was slowly but surely changing. He was still being typical Dan, but the cracks were beginning to show in Dan's tough act. "I don't know about the homework bit, but..." Dan wasn't sure what to say next, he had never compromised before, it was either his way or nothing. Dan chose to leave it at that. "And I have friends, I don't need no advice on how to treat them..." He trailed off, remembering his time on the cliffs with Siddalee, she was the one person who truly understood his strange ways.

Fletcher knew he was getting through to the boy. Given time, hopefully he would change for good. He sighed, looking up at Dan then at Professor Weasley. "I'm not saying you don't have friends. I'm just saying you could try being more polite to see if your social circle increases. He closed his eyes momentarily, analysing the situation. He had nothing else to say at this moment in time, and saw no reason as to why Dan should stay in his office any longer. " Mr. Adams, I feel we have addressed the matters that needed addressing now, and I suggest that you go and mull over what has happened today. I hope that we can see improvements in your behaviour in the coming weeks and that you do not skip any lessons any more. I'm sure that Professor Weasley will contact you shortly with details regarding your detention. I will also be checking up with your Professors, making sure you are attending lessons and behaving well. Any question?" Fletcher asked.

Professor Weasley had remained silent for a long while simply listening and watching as Professor Fletcher dealt with Dan. She thought that the boy was acting much tougher than he truly was and she had the feeling that deep down he had a lot going on. She could also tell that he probably didn't like talking about those things either. Professor Fletcher seemed to be getting through to him, at least a little bit. She agreed with all he had said and hoped that Dan would truly listen to what the professor had told him. "I will" she said with a small nod to Dan. She'd never had to hold a detention before, so she would have to think about what she wanted Dan to do.

Dan smiled to himself as he noticed that Professor Fletcher was beginning to round things up. He knew he'd probably have to sit his detention, but that wasn't going to stop him. Dan had listened to what Professor Fletcher had said, and considering his options, Dan thought about maybe attending a few more lessons than he had been previously. But there was no doubt that Dan would skive again, he just simply wouldn't get caught next time around.

Dan began to rise from his seat as the Professor asked him if he had any questions. "Urm not about this...but I do have one...which is, can I go now?" He asked cheekily, as he smirked at the Professors. Dan headed towards the door, before turning back to Professor Weasley. "Urm, you just uh, tell me when that detention is, and I'll be there yeah? But don't expect me to hang around for too long..." Dan paused for moment, before a laugh sounded. "I have work to catch up on remember?" He said, continuing to laugh at his comment, before flicking his head to Professor Fletcher..."So I can go...yeah?" He asked, opening the door a little.
