Essie was up to the ceiling in work that she had to do before the end of the semester. She had to reorganise all of her study notes, prepare practice exams for all of her classes and complete an essay for her Defence Against The Dark Arts class, all whilst trying to finish off the Hogwarts Monthly article so it could be published. There was a lot that needed to be done, and she refused to admit that the reason she had left pretty much everything to the last minute was all because she was distracted by a boy. She had been trying to push Sawyer to the back of her mind, but she saw him pretty much everyday, and it was hard. The teen just tried her best to push on however as she sat in the student lounge, trying to get through her essay. She had her textbooks sprawled out on the coffee table as she sat on the lounge, her knees to her chest and her quill scribbling away at the parchment in front of her. She had been there all day, and knew she needed a break soon, but she just had to keep pushing.

Sawyer had a lot on his mind right now, between classes and quidditch and... other things, but he'd had his gobstone set since his first year, he couldn't believe he'd just mislaid them in the lounge like that. There was no denying it though, he knew exactly which table he'd left them on before lunch and now they'd simply disappeared.

He ran an agitated hand through his hair, wondering if he should check for a lost and found or ask a professor when his eyes landed on Essie sitting nearby, heart skipping a beat for a moment at the sight of her deep in her own work. Essie was a prefect, it was a perfectly valid reason to bother her for a minute to help him look, right? It was what prefects were for, he assured himself, slipping over to where she'd curled up with her books and parchment. Not that he should need an excuse to talk to her, but maybe he wouldn't feel like a complete idiot for once when he was around her. "Hey, got a minute? I'm having a crisis. Very dire, you're my only hope," he said, settling on the arm of the chair near her hoping his voice came out casual despite the thundering in his chest he got every time he was around Estella these days.

Essie was slowly feeling herself getting tired. She had to read a few sentences a couple of times now to understand them, and despite the fact she knew she should stop, she just couldn't bring herself away. When she heard a voice speaking to her, she quickly looked up. As she realised it was Sawyer, an unexplained wave of relief flooded over her, yet she still felt so tense. There was always something about him that Essie couldn't quite explain, and it was definitely due to the fact he made her feel many emotions at once. Like she could explode at any minute.

As Sawyer said he was having a crisis, Essie had to pause for a moment, wondering if he was being serious or if he was just being sarcastic. Maybe he was testing her? It made Essie realise just how hard it was to trust anyone lately. But she shook it off. She knew that the best thing to do would be to help. Not only that, but Sawyer was the closest thing she had to a friend and she knew she couldn't risk losing him like she lost a lot of people lately. "What's wrong?" she asked, putting her textbook to the side and sitting up in her seat. She raised an eyebrow, wondering what was bothering him. He was never usually this open towards her.
