To Be Alone

It felt strange being at Hogwarts. Jessica thought she would be used to it after a week, but she still felt lost. She didn't dare speak to Taylor. She hadn't spoken to anyone. She felt more alone than she had in a long time. She missed her friends from her muggle school. She had trouble making friends because she held judgement on everyone. She never admitted this fact to herself though. As far as she was concerned she had a right to judge people and she usually assumed she was right in her judgements anyway.

Stretching her arms above her head Jess wandered to the Cliffs. Knowing it was out of bounds, but concluding that was a better reason to be there. Letting a yawn escape her she leant against a large rock as she glanced out over the horizon. The sun was hanging low in the sky, no clouds at all blocking its calming rays. Jess wrapped her arms around herself in an unconscious gesture. Just for once she wished she had someone to talk to. She wished she were with her old friends. But once again, she would never openly admit this fact. It meant she was weak and Jess would never admit she held any kind of weakness.

Rubie wandered to the cliffs. She hadn't been there before and wanted to see them and the view. She was lost in her own thoughts, thinking that she should probably write a letter home, and tell her parents of all that was happening. Yet, she was a little lazy, and had gone out for a walk instead, which had leading her here.

Her gaze wandered the vallies, and seeing the low lying sun. It was then she noticed a girl, who looked about her age leaning against a rock, arms crossed.

"Hey" Rubie said giving the girl a smile.

Jess was snapped out of her thoughts by a voice. She jumped, but straightened her back to cover up her momentary fright. "Hi." She said simply, giving the girl a once over. Jessica didn't think she had seen her before, mainly because Jess hadn't been looking around at other people, but she knew that the girl was in her year. Jessica filed through her brain to try and think which classes she had seen her in, to work out what house she was. What house someone was in said a lot about a person.

Jessica stopped assessing the girl and instead turned her eyes back to the view, almost as if she hadn't been interrupted at all. If the girl wanted to talk, then by all means, she could try and find something interesting to say. If she didn't and just said nothing, then Jessica wasn't going to try and start up a conversation herself. She couldn't care for the girl beside her.

Rubie smiled, following the girl's eyes towards the view.

"It's a nice veiw isn't it?" she said trying to start a conversation, so that she didn't look stupid.

Jess looked back at the girl with a black expression. "I guess." She said with a small shrug, her eyes heading back to the view before deciding to remain on the other girl. "So what house did you get stuck with?" She asked with a raised eyebrow, crossing her arms across her chest. Jessica didn't recall seeing her in Slytherin, so it must be some other house, in which case the girl probably wouldn't be worth her time, but there was the odd occasion when Jess might think otherwise.

Rubie raised an eyebrow at the girl, when she answered I guess very friendly. She then asked a question,

"Gryffindor, you?" she replied, already knowing that the answer would be Slytherin.

Gryffindor. Jess didn't quite know what to make of it. Jessica would have assumed Hufflepuff if she had to take a guess, but the girl wasn't overly annoying, so Jessica supposed she could put up with her for now. "Slytherin. Obviously." She said with a small roll of her eyes. She hadn't really expected anything else. Taylor took after their Mum and was a Gryffindorian, but Jessica was like her Dad. Slytherin all the way. "How's Gryffindor treating you?" Jessica asked in a monotone voice, attempting lamely at making conversation.

"Pretty good actually" she replied, not really knowing what to really think of the girl.

"How's Slytherin?" she replied, keeping the conversation going.

Jessica ignored the girls reply about Gryffindor being good. Somehow Jessica doubted that Gryffindor could be good in any way. What did they do? Sit around confessing their life's secrets and do each other's hair? Jess liked her mysteries and liked not having to trust people instantly. "Probably better than Gryffindor." She replied sarcastically, suddenly not wanting any friends at all. Why had she felt lonely in the first place?

Rubie raised an eyebrow, this girl was, well different. She stiffed a giggle at her last sarcastic comment. She obviously didn't seem to like socialising. Well, with Rubie anyways.

"I'm sure it is" she replied, knowing that it wouldn't be, but deciding to just play along.

"So, whats your name?" she asked, curious.
