It had been a long time since Nephrolepis had ventured back into the huge library on the fouth floor. In fact, it had been a long time since she'd bothered doing much at all. Lessons were feeling dull, and she hadn't really spoken to any of her friends for a few days. Since the loss of her sister's baby, which had actually happened a fair time ago, Nephy had only felt devastation, instead of the normal things a 12 year old should be feeling. Her adventurous self was still around, though, and she now spent most of her time outdoors in the gardens, or reflecting upon herself by the lake. Sometimes a fellow first year would join her, but she found herself only just bothering to reply. The world was pretty distant, and she desperately needed something to cheer her up.

Why Nephrolepis had assumed the library would be a good place for feeling better, she wasn't sure. But the smell of old leather books and the sound of pages being turned by a small boy in a corner instantly bought a long lost smile to her face. She hadn't realized that she could be so happy around books - something so simple and yet great. Not planning on reading anything, she gathered up a few books from the shelves and sat herself down at a small table, which had two seats. One was empty, and one was occupied by herself. Still smiling, though not so much with happiness as being content, she began to flick through the pages of the random books she had picked up. One of them was about magical creatures, one about potions of some kind, but she never did find out what the last one was about, as she was startled by a noise behind her.

Ever since the laughing incident with Andrea Damien had been avoiding the library,he wasn't sure if the librarian would let him back again as he and Andi had interrupted quite a lot of people and one had the cheek to actually say it to his face.he hadn't liked that but he guessed they were kind of right. The library was a place for quietness and peacefulness. He had basically broke every rule when he had been here last. But he had realized he didn't like doing his homework in the common room as it was always to noise and you could easily get distracted.Damien was actually starting to like this school. When he had received the letter he hadn't wanted to come here, magic had been his enemy the thing that had stopped him from being normal, from fitting in.He had gotten into lots of fights because people would call him a freak when he accidently did magic in public.Strangely the next day they had forgotten but one time he got in a huge fight resulting in him getting suspended from school and also receiving a long scar down his side. Now he was loving everything about magic and he enjoyed school though he still found the reading and writing hard.

he had decided he would take a test run.he would go into the library attempt to read a book and see earn back the librarian's trust so he would soon be able to do his homework here again.he walked into the quite library and it was quite full.he walked around and picked up the odd book.He could feel the librarians gaze on his back but he ignored it pretending to be a perfectly normal student looking for a nice book to read. When he had picked two books he looked down for somewhere to sit.he saw a girl who looked vaguely familiar from classes.he walked over "Anyone sitting there"He whispered

Nephrolepis' eyes shot up at the fellow Gryffindor who was probably also a first year, though being so small it was quite hard to tell just how old someone else was. She glanced at him and smiled, not really recognizing him but sure she'd seen him either in a class or in the Gryffindor common room at some point. Thinking it was sweet that he felt the need to ask if he could sit down, a tiny smile spread across her cheeks. "Nope", she replied simply, deciding that if the boy came here for a conversation then he could start it himself. Though she had no intention of being rude, as she was a very friendly girl, she was very unexperienced at starting conversations with people she hadn't met before. Knowing this, it wasn't very surprising she hadn't made very many friends since she'd arrived at Hogwarts, but it didn't bother her. She tended to keep to herself, deciding that if she had any problems to discuss, she wouldn't trust anybody anyway. Her family had taught her that.

As Nephy pretended to be reading her book, her eyes kept glancing up at the boy, though she hoped he wasn't doing the same. If their eyes had met, she would have blushed from the fact she'd been caught looking at him. But still, she couldn't help but wonder why he'd decided to sit next to her when there were plenty of other unoccupied tables elsewhere he could have sat at. She found it odd that some people liked the company of others. Why couldn't everyone keep to themselves? There would be a lot less trouble in the world. Suddenly aware that though she wasn't trying, she was appearing rude, she cleared her throat a little and peeled her eyes away from her book. "What are you reading?" Nephy asked, considering the idea that he was also only pretending to read to get away from something troubling him. She made sure she was smiling in a friendly way as she spoke, so that she didn't unintentionally sound arrogant. She hadn't exactly been very chatty so far, though it was a normal enough question to ask, and Nephy was always worried about how she came across to other people, checking their facial expression to make sure she hadn't said something in the wrong tone of voice or with the wrong look on her face. It was stupid really, but she had been upset by others so many times that she couldn't bear making someone else feel the same way.

Damien was glancing at the librarian every few minutes and even when he wasn't looking he could feel the gaze on his back, watching, just watching.Damien smiled "Thanks"he asked sitting down and leaving the books on the table. He opened the books and attempted to read them. After around five minutes he just gave up,the words were too small and they were all jumbled up.He looked up for a moment and he saw the girl looking at him,he looked away quickly and tried to read the book again,he hoped she thought he was actually reading because that would just be embarrasing. He didn't even know the name of the book let alone the author. He was glad the girl wasn't talking to him, just for now that it,he would have to wait until he felt the gaze off his back,he would probably be kicked out if he was caught talking or laughing again. He was so focused on fake reading he forgot the girl was beside him so when she asked him a question,he leaped off his chair and almost shouted but instead he just jumped.he sat there for a few minutes, making sure his heart was okay and that the librarian hadn't seen.he opened his eyes and looked over at the girl "I'm so sorry,I forgot you were there, was concentrating on something else"He said his sentence drifting "Anyways what did you ask me?"He asked felling guilty about forgetting her
