Mark sat with his legs crossed under him. The wind blew through his hair and made a shiver creep down his spine. At least I can still feel the cold. He thought to himself with a sigh. Mark was well aware of his depression and there was nothing he could do about it. When ever he ha something in is life that was worth being happy for it always disappeared shortly after. The story of his life really. His best friend, his brother and his girl friends. Maybe there was just something wrong with him and he repelled people away from him. He ha never had this problem when he had been at Durmstrang but maybe it started there and got worse t Hogwarts. What ever the reason was Mark knew hat he didn't have much in his life that he could be happy about. His cousin worked as a Professor now so he could talk to him more. He had a new cousin now and he had a brother here But they were not having much effect on him now.

Mark looked up from the grass and turned his gaze to the crashing sea below him. He was sat on the very edge of the cliffs, all it would take was a strong gust of wind to make him fall. He knew that wouldn't happen though, h was only really here fr the peace and quite and also to think bout his late best friend who had fallen off a cliff after fighting with him. That had been hen thing started to worsen in his life. A sigh escaped his lips as he shuffled back very slightly so that if a strong wind did blow he had room to put his hands to keep his balance.

The weather was gaining the nip of fall. Hilde still was not used to the reversal of seasons that she experienced after having moved to the southern hemisphere a few years back. By now she should be adjusted, but she figured she would always feel that April should be spring weather and not fall. Tugging her sweater a bit closer to her body, she wandered off to the cliffs to do some studying. OWLs were looming and she was using every spare second that she could to study. As she approached the cliffs, she saw someone she had not seen in quite a while, since the beginning of school. Mark, the Hufflepuff kid she had met a few times. He was sitting a bit too close to the edge of the cliff so she approached slowly, not wanting to scare him. "Hey," she said softly. "It's Mark, right?"

The wind continued to blow through Marks hair, but it had no effect on him now. He had grown accustomed to the chill. Another thing to add to the list that h could no longer feel. He laughed quietly to himself. A sensation of resentment ashed over him quickly as he thought to himself. he teenage boy had such a low self esteem it was almost scary. To him his life was worth nothing and he had done nothing with it.

Marks thoughts were quickly swayed as he heard a voice behind him. He didn't bother to look around right away. Who ever this girl was she was probably better off with not knowing him. He didn't like making new friends any more really, they all went the same way. It was the fact that she mentioned his name that got him to turn around. If she already knew him then he may as well talk to her.

As his eyes rested on the face of a girl he recognised as had met her once or twice before he nodded. "Yeah that's my name." He said thoughtfully, almost detached. He continued to look at the girl momentarily but he just couldn't put a name to a face. "Sorry but I can't seem to remember your name." He said in a monotone. Mark was still sat at the very edge of the cliff, he could feel he edge at his finger tips. It didn't bother him though. "Your a Slytherin though right." He said looking back in front of him, out towards the sea

Hilde moved to sit down next to the Hufflepuff, not letting the edge of the cliff bother her. She allowed her legs to dangle over the edge, banging her heels against the rocks. "It's Hilde. And of course I am a Slytherin," she replied, making a bit of a sassy face at the boy. "So, what are you doing out here?" She took her bookbag off her shoulder as she spoke, setting it behind her. It was obvious that he was not here to study, so he had to have another reason for being in one of the quietest places on the grounds. His gaze was over the water that the cliffs overlooked. The deep blue was beautiful to look at, not to mention that she had always found it a bit calming.

Mark didn't say any thing as she sat next to him. He was secretly happy for the company His spirits were always lifted when he was around someone, mainly because he always acted happy around people. It was when he was on his own that he had time with is thoughts. He put a slight smile on his face as he listened to her comment. The name registered to him and he nodded. He remembered now. "Well i haven't had the best time with Slytherin's so im hoping your the exception." He said biting his lower lip. He had had bad experiences with other student in Hilde's house but even though he was depressed, he did have anger issues sometimes and wouldn't hesitate to throw a punch at someone who crossed the line. Mark blinked as se began to talk to him again. What am I really doing here. He thought to himself. "I like the quiet I guess." He said passively. It wasn't the trust but then again how could he tell her what the truth was with out her thinking he was a wack job. "What about you?" He asked her, tearing his gazing from the sea to her face

"Honey, I am always the exception," Hilde said, a bit of sass coming into her voice. She smiled as she looked at the Hufflepuff, wondering what trouble he got into with her housemates, and which ones were involved. Choosing not to ask, she responded to his other question. "I like to seek out quiet spots to study. Its not very Slytherin to have your nose in a book all the time, but OWLs are soon and, well, I plan on kicking some arse on them. My parents expect nothing less than Os from myself and my sisters." She really looked at the boy next to her. He was cute, not like Shane or Austin, but cute none the less. "So," she started, "what happened with the Slytherins?"

Mark smiled slightly at Hilde's comment. He wondered if she was a self loving kind of Sythein like most of them seemed to be to him. He knew he was good looking but he not love himself at all no matter how much he pretended like he did when he was around other people. "Ok then." He said quietly deciding not to mention anything about it. He listened t her talk some more and nodded his head every now and then so he looked like he was listening to her. He was but not fully. He got the part about her parents wanting her to get good grades. His parents were the total opposite to that, his dad just didn't care about him at all an he had never met his mother to know what she thought about him. "Oh well lucky you. My parents couldn't give a care in the world about me. All i have is my little brother and cousins." He said. Logan was good to have around but he was still young and Mark didn't want to dump al this rubbish on him and Riley was good to talk to. Little did Mark know that he was more than just hos cousin though but in fact his uncle which meant they were more closely related. He shook his head at her question. "Nothing much. A few of them thought it would be fun to take the mick out of me and they soon ended up regretting it." He said with a shrug

Hilde listened to Mark and what he had to say. She couldn't imagine a life like he was describing, one where her parents didn't care what her and her sisters did or didn't do. Despite their affiliations, they were loving parents that were very involved in their children's lives. "Glad to hear you taught them a lesson. Really, I don't see why so many of the boys in my house feel they need to be idiots. It really gives all of us a bad name." Her eyes turned to look out over the scene before them as she kicked her heels against the cliff. "I am proud to be a Slytherin, almost everyone in my family has been one. It just sucks that there are a bunch of idiots that like to hold onto old prejudices."

Mark swallowed hard. He lean forward a little more, all his weight being pushed on to his hands. All it took now was slip up and he would be over the edge. He knew he was strong enough to keep himself up for a while yet so he didn't care. "Yeah well anyone who thinks they can push me abut will get the same as them guys. I dont care what house they are in." Mark said with a shrug. He had been in a few fights since he started here, all of which he had won. "Yeah well most people in Slytherin are proud to be in that house Its the house of pride after all." He said looking over his shoulder at her. "Its the ones who think that their house is the best in the school, they annoy Me." He said truthfully. In Durmstrang there had not been houses so coming ere was a bit different to him and he still didn't care about being in Hufflepuff. "I wouldnt know what any of my family have been in. Except for Logan who is in Ravenlaw i dont know any of the rest of my family really." He said with a sigh. Riley had been in Slytherin in HS but Mark couldn't understand why, he was the complete opposite to what one would expect to be Slytherin.

Hilde realized that Mark seemed to be in a funk about a lot of issues, and the talk of family and House pride was not really pulling him out of it. Changing the topic, she started in about relationships, hoping that it would be a bit better. "So, does your girlfriend go to school here or is she someplace else?" She had no idea if the boy had a girlfriend or not, but figured it was easier to figure things out this way than ask him straight out and seem like she was hitting on him. Hilde had Austin here at school with her, even though her heart was not in the relationship. He was fun to be around, but still did not make her heart flutter like Shane did. She only could hope that she was able to run into him at some point over the winter break.

Mark bit his lip and swallowed hard. His hands turned to fists. He hated talking about his love life. Since Alana had left him with no warning and just decided not to talk to him Mark tried to stay away from girls but as much as he tried he always seemed to be around a girl. He tried not to mind now though Hilde was sort of a friend. "I dont have a girl friend anymore. She lefft me. She stopped replying to my letters and she just stopped talking to me all of a sudden." He said trying not to sound annoyed although he didnt know how well he was doing. "How are your lessons going?" He asked trying to change the subject to something a little less sensitive for him.

Hilde was shocked that his girlfriend had treated him like that. "Wow. That is the cowards way out if you ask me," she added, her voice low. "I'm sorry, Mark. That really sucks." Turning her body to face him, she tucked her leg under her and left her other leg dangling over the cliff. "Classes are not bad. I seem to be doing pretty well. How are yours going?" The change in topic did not pass unnoticed, and she could see he was bothered by the talk of his girlfriend. "What class is your favorite?"

(sorry i havnt replied in a while)

Mark shrugged at her comment. It probably was but that was the only way he knew how to be dumped so he couldnt comment. "Ah dont worry about it. Im used to bad stuff happening to me. Is just my life you know." He said quietly. In the last few years it has just been one bad thing after another but he was used to it now and it all added up and just made him more depressed, if that was even possible now. "Mine are going good i guess. My favourite one id DADA. My Uncle teaches me so i enjoy it more." He said to her. What about you then what your favourite lesson? You look like a charms girl to me but im probably wrong." he said with a forced laugh

"I actually like DADA, but you are right, Charms and Transfiguration are my faves." Hilde smiled at Mark, then asked, "So, do you have plans on what you want to be after school is over?" She knew what her plans were and what she was hoping to do, but not everyone was as decided as she was. Mark might have plans, or he might not have any idea what to do after school is over. The only way to know for sure was to ask.

Not a problem. I was gone for a bit too. :)

Mark smiled smiled. "Woo. I guess I know you too well now if i can just guess things like that." He joked. When asked what h wanted to do when he left school Mark thought ad bit his lip. "Well i kind of want to be an Auror but I will need to get myself together more before that." He said to he. He knew he couldnt be an Auror if he was always feeling sorry for himself. "What about you ten. I would guess something like a healer or something to do closely with people." He said guessing again

Hilde was stunned. Mark was totally on the mark. Her surprise showed on her face. "Actually, yeah. I am planning on being a healer. You are good!" She nudged him with her shoulder. "I think you would make a pretty good Auror, just from what I know of you. Going after all those bad guys, you look like the kind that would love to do that." Hilde gave him a smile then realized the time. "Oh, bloody hell. I need to run! It's almost dinner and I need to drop this stuff off in the dorms. We should meet up again, do some studying together." She stood quickly and began to brush the dirt from her.

Mark grinned. He was actually starting to enjoy himself now. Something that he rarely ever did. "Wow I am good aren't I. You just look like someone who I could imagine helping people." He said to her truthfully. He was quite good at reading people but he wouldn't call himself great at it. As she said that he thought that he would make a great Auror Mark smiled again. He liked the encouragement, he wasn't really used to it. "Thanks." He said quietly. He didn't know how to respond to it but she soon spoke again but this time it wasn't really what he wanted to hear but still he couldn't sit there all day talking to her. He stood up or her and smiled. "Yeah ok then. We could meet here again a little earlier next week if you want too." He said with a shrug

Hilde smiled at Mark. "I think I would like that. We should meet up here. You can help me study for OWLs and I can help you review for exams." Picking up her bookbag, she placed it on her shoulder. "Wanna walk back with me to the castle?"

Mark nodded. He liked that idea. "Yeah sounds like a plan." He said to her as he looked to is side. The castle wasnt too far away and he could just go to his common room now or maybe meet Logan. "Yeah sure thing.' He said looking back to her. He didnt want to be alone again so soon. It meant he would be able to think more. He turned around and began to walk slowly.
