The Long Awaited Duel

[Brian Getathorn XIX]

Brian was wearing his Ravenclaw robes wondering if he might be able to get them modified so that they were better equipped for dueling. He thought about asking Zazuka since she knew how to sew but then decided against it. Brian rarely ever visited the cliffs but since too many students were practicing in the Dueling chamber and the Quidditch pitch had been booked for Slytherin's training session it seemed like the only places where Brian could train was the cliffs or the forest. The forest was filled with dangerous centaurs among other creatures and so it didn't make sense to go up in there and risk getting into trouble. Brian knew a short cut from the Quidditch pitch up into the cliffs where there were a few caves nearby and so took it in order to maximise his time.

Brian stared at all the boulders and wondered which spells might be usefull. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Brian said making the swish and flick movement that caused a rather large boulder to float into the air. When Brian was a first year using this spell he'd never have been able to lift a boulder like this and while it wasn't floating high it was still able to move about. Brian gave a thrusting movement with his wand causing the boulder to be ejected away as if it had been released from a catapult. Brian ran over to the edge of the cliff and saw as the boulder made a large noise cracking itself on the way to the ground. Brian wondered if that trick might be usefull when he participated in the tournament, at the very least it may give him an element of surprise.

Andrew's Qudditch practice just got over and he decided to fly out of the Qudditch pitch. He thought of going towards the cliffs. He could also fly down into the cliffs, yes that could be fun he thought as he sped his broom and directed it to fly towards the cliffs.

To his misfortune he saw the person he would least like to meet. Brian Gethathorn. The name itself was enough to bring anger to Andrew's mind. He watched Brian levitate the boulder. "Greeting Gethathorn" he said with a smirk as he remembered the incident from the Potions class.

"Hello Bruke" Brian said coldly as he looked at Andrew, he saw that Andrew had his broomstick with him as if he'd been practicing Quidditch. Brian had a bit of venom left in him as he thought about both the Quidditch match with Slytherin and the potions class afterwards. Brian definately knew that he owed Bruke one and with out a doubt Brian knew that this would be the time to pay him back considering they were away from the school. Brian decided to add a bit of sting as he smiled slightly "Zazuka say's hi" Brian said knowing that they were probably still in contact with each other as Zazuka never held anything as a grudge. Brian however did and he enjoyed the fact that he had gotten Zazuka away from Andrew.

Brian knew that Andrew was dangerous and the potions class only proved it. "Oh, I owe you something" Brian said as he looked at Andrew "Reducto!" Brian shouted not aiming at Andrew but instead his broom, Brian knew that it was not right to aim a spell at his opponant without warning but nothing was wrong with aiming it at Andrew's broom. Not to mention the fact that he was sure Andrew wouldn't be expecting a Ravenclaw of pulling such Slytherinish tactics. Brian knew that this day was bound to come and it was better to have it sooner then later, especially while they were both alone and none of his cheating friends could try and bail him out.

Andrew was still on his broomstick as he heard "Zazuka says hi". It didn't matter to him anymore, not a single bit. Although the fact that from so many boys Zuka had choosed Brian and he didn't deserve her. Andrew didn't reply. What came next was unexpected.

His broom shattered into pieces and he fell to the ground.Getting to his feet quickly "How dare you?"he asked anger filling him up. "You'll pay for that" he shouted and put the newly mastered Confundo charm on him. Best used in duels. "Confundo" he shouted waving his wand in a swish and flick.

He waited for his opponent to be confused. Then the fun would begin.

Brian had to admit he hadn't expected destroying Andrew's broomstick however he couldn't help but be glad. "Protego!" Brian shouted as he had already suspected that Andrew might try to fight back. Brian thought it was kinda funny that Andrew was trying to use a spell they all had just learned. Had the Confundus Charm his Brian he would've been at the mercy of the Slytherin boy. Brian however was clevor and alot more imaginative as he pointed he wand not at Andrew but at some rocks near him. "Everte Statum!" Brian shouted knowing that Andrew would be expecting himself to be the target however by aiming towards one of the the rocks he was likely to shower Andrew with many smaller rocks and other type of objects. Brian backed up a little so that if he had too he could retreat into the cave fore futher safety as he waited for what Andrew might do next.

Andrew watched cursing Brian as he saw his charm make a shield to protect him. What came next was unexpected because Andrew was expecting to be the target. The big boulder blasted and shoot backward and many small pebbles and rock came towards Andrew, cutting through his skin. Andrew now aimed for Brian's eyes, the cojunctivitis curse. He waited to see what Brian would make of that.

Brian had been ready, it didn't take a rocket scientist to know that if you begin throwing spells at someone they were going to throw stuff back at you. Brian quickly dove away from the curse and behind some nearby rocks. Brian looked up slightly but only to get a quick aim as he threw his wand over his shoulder and yelled out "Confundo!" Brian didn't have a lot of time as he quickly scrambled towards another set of rocks. This would provide some cover but not enough if he didn't think of some way to finish the duel quickly, Brian wondered how Andromeda or Zazuka might handle this situation as he began trying to think of a spell to use against Andrew. Brian knew that he had to think smarter then Andrew if he stood a chance at making it out of here without a cast. Perhaps the Jelly-Leg Jinx or something similar?
