Gabi Yamada had never been great at first impressions but tonight she was glowing. She'd taken a good half an hour in the shower before she felt anything close to ready, And by the time she'd done her hair and put on her dress it was eight o'clock. Tommy would be arriving in fifteen minutes. At the beginning of the school year not once had she thought she'd be going to prom with Tommy Brady, the popular athletic kid in her year. She'd only moved to LA at the beginning of the school year, and being the new girl she hadn't exactly been swamped with friends from day one. She'd been different. But never the less she'd still been pretty and that was probably the reason he'd asked her to go to prom with him.
She applied a thin line of eyeliner and some lipstick and looked at herself in her mirror. Her hair was around her shoulders, the white blonde hair shining in the light. There was a movement in the corner of her sight and she whipped around picking up the first thing she could grab. She'd been really jumpy recently after hearing of the two missing students from her class, but they'd gone missing just as she'd moved into town a few months ago. She slowly walked towards her door brandishing the straighteners in her hand. The floor creaked as she opened the door.
"Tommy's here." Her father's voice made her jump, but she smiled anyway, handing him the straighteners as she walked past him down the stairs. Halfway down her eyes locked onto her date, chocolate brown hair, bright blue eyes and a tuxedo that just polished the whole look off. Their eyes met and they shared a smile. Gabi blushed. He'd seen her checking him out. They shared another awkward moment as her dad walked past, only stopping to tell them to be back by twelve.
"Hi," Tommy said, hands in his pockets, rocking on the balls of his feet. "You ready?"
"Yeah. Let's go." She replied, shyness creeping over her. He extended his arm and she rested hers in the crook as they exited the house.
---
The light from the TV flickered on the front door as it clicked shut. Her father glanced over his shoulder towards where she'd just left. Something nagged on the back of his mind, something wasn't right. His daughter didn't date, they moved around too much but something about this boy had made her insist that she was going. He didn't trust him. But that was prehaps his natural fatherly instincts.
"What's wrong?" Her mother asked, eyes glued to the screen.
"I'm worried." He answered, turning back to the TV and promptly forgetting all about it.
Part One
Got a big plan, this mindset maybe it's right
At the right place and right time, maybe tonight
And the whisper or handshake sending a sign
Wanna make out and kiss hard, wait never mind
