Sofia comes from a very mixed background. Her father, Johannes Loris, was mainly German and a muggle. Sofia's mother, Marilena Lupo comes from a long line of wizards and magic-related relatives. Marilena lived outside of Stresa, Italy her whole life. However, there is much Greek heritage in her line. There is a history of Greek wizards with the last name of Sanna who sold hay and lived as peasants in Athens. They eventually fled to Italy when their family was accused of having a werewolf in their presence and were attacked by angry villagers in 1868. This is where the current last name of Lupo comes from, meaning wolf. The family stayed in Italy, schooling at Beauxbatons in France.

Marilena and Johannes met by medical incident. They were at a hospital visiting ill family members who were in the same room. They became married in 1991. Marilena never told Johannes about her being a wizard, which is what unfortunately led to his demise. They had a girl in late 1991, Zenzi Anna Loris. However, due to travels that the two parents wanted to continue, they gave Zenzi to Johannes' parents in Germany. Zenzi is a squib and never attended any magical school or knew of her heritage. Marilena paid off Johannes' parents to send her to school and keep track of her once she turned 11. In late 1997, Marilena became pregnant with Sofia. She and Johannes were still traveling because she was hoping to keep him safe during the wizarding war. They were camping in Switzerland when Johannes went into the woods to gather firewood. A spooked ashwinder set the woods on fire with Johannes inside. Marilena managed to control the fire while contacting the local Ministry of Magic. However, Johannes was dead before they could get him out.

Full of grief, Marilena packed up her life on the road and moved to Australia to get away from everyone after Sofia was born in Stresa. They have been living in Sydney ever since.

When Sofia turned 11 in 2009, she was accepted into Hogwarts Scotland and spent all 7 years of her schooling there. Her mother remained in Australia during this time, and Sofia would come back on breaks. During her time at school, she served as the leader and founder of a small group called Future Herbologists of Europe (FHE) for 4 years and acted as a spirited cheerer for the Slytherin Quidditch team. She also held potluck dinners at the end of each semester in their common room from years 4-7.

After graduating, Sofia moved back to Australia with her mother. She waited tables at a local muggle haunt where she met her husband Oliver in 2017. They got married on October 5, 2018 and had three children. Together, they opened up Bennett Apothecary in 2020 in Australia. Oliver passed away in 2046 of bone cancer, and she closed the apothecary shortly after. Since then, she has been living in New Zealand and now owns Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor.
