Sixth Years: Lesson One

Professor Nakamura was dressed tidily and neatly for his first class of the year. Clean, pristine robes and neatly combed hair. He waited patiently as the students entered the classroom, smiling at some of them in greeting, but also fiddling with his notes one last time.

“Welcome to sixth year astronomy,” he said in greeting as they all settled in. “My name is Professor Nakamura, in case any of you have forgotten,” he said with a broad, friendly smile.

“Now, for our first class we will be delving into the subject of light. We all recognise light – but in this case we will primarily be thinking about this in the context of stars, which emit light.” He paused, making sure everyone was keeping up. “Light is a type of energy, and not all light is visible to the naked eye. For example, our bodies give off heat. This is called infrared, and is not something we can see but is a subsection of light nonetheless. Before you are some instruments that can see these frequencies – ah, light comes in frequencies, you see – of infrared. Please look through them and notice the different tones of light. Some are cool blues and purples, whereas your bodies will be more of a red and yellow.” Professor Nakamura waited while the students used the instruments, walking around the class and keeping an eye on the students, making sure they enjoyed themselves but didn’t get too silly.

“For homework, please look up the electromagnetic spectrum to get a better idea of the sorts of light we mean. Looking forward to seeing you all next week, class dismissed.”

Attendance post is fine.

Teddy realised when he'd got back to Hogwarts that some of his Quidditch team were not continuing which opened a few vacant spots. He wasn't worried though as he knew there were a bunch of enthusiastic Gryffindors ready to step into their shoes. He turned up to Astronomy thinking about the line up when Professor Nakamura began their lecture on light. Teddy stood up to examine the light detecting objects which were interesting too. Once the lesson was over, Teddy packed up his belongings and left the tower.

Marley was keen to be back at Hogwarts, and she was ready to learn. The Hufflepuff quickly packed up the things she needed for the lesson before quickly making her way to her Astronomy classroom. Once she arrived, she took a seat in her usual spot and took out the things she needed for the lesson before moving her attention towards the professor as he got started with the lesson. Marley took note of what the professor was saying as she didn't want to miss out on any important information. The Hufflepuff nodded along as well as what the professor was saying to show that she was understanding what was being said. She stood up to look at the different instruments that detected light and made sure to take note of what she saw.

It wasn't long before the lesson had come to an end and the class was dismissed. Marley made sure to take note of the homework. She then packed up her things, said a quick and appreciative thanks and goodbye to the professor before heading out of the classroom with her friends and the rest of her classmates.

Callie walked into the astronomy classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She glanced at the professor as the man got started. She nodded as he talked about what they would be covering, and began taking some notes on what he said about light. She was keenly listening, enjoying the more advanced nature of the class. The lesson was then shortly wrapped up and then she was able to pack up her things and leave the room.
