Signy Byr Forstrom​

MEANING:​

Signy - Signy or Signe (sometimes known as Sieglinde) is the name of two heroines in two connected legends from Scandinavian mythology which were very popular in medieval Scandinavia. Both appear in the Völsunga saga, which was adapted into other works such as Wagner's 'Ring' cycle, including its famous opera The Valkyrie.​

Byr - Germanic name element. Old Norse. býr = 'farmhouse', 'farmstead' br = 'farmhouse', 'farmstead'. ​

Forstrom - Swedish (Forsström) : ornamental name composed of the elements fors 'waterfall' + ström 'river'.​

WHY:​

Signys family are originally from Sweden and her father had always enjoyed Scandinavian mythology and decided when he found out his wife was pregnant that he would name his daughter after a heroine, he had consider god, but he far preferred the story that came with the two connected legends the name Signy is from. Signy has always loved her name, it an odd name to most in New Zealand but shes always loved the Völsunga saga and she enjoys that being her name. Her middle name is just the name her father also has as a middle name, since their family have really been farms for generations despite the magic parts of it and the name as always just stuck. Signys surname is only part of her name she of course just got because of her family. It has been in her family for a number of generations and she utterly adores it, she enjoys that it is a connection back to where her family is from but also she just likes the name. ​

NICKNAMES: ​

Signys name is short enough on its own that shes never really tolerated nicknames, its only her cousin who could ever get away with giving her a name other than the one that she has. For that reason she has none and will never have any. ​

AGE: ​

She is currently eleven years old​

D.O.B.: ​

Signy was born in St. Mungoes hospital in Obsidian Harbour on the 20th April 2041, she was born around midday and with little to no complications. She was a very loud baby when she was first born, but of a perfect size and weight. She had a little few strands of whispy blonde hair when she was first born. Despite it being a relatively easy birth, having Signy did put her mother off ever having more kids. ​

PROFESSION: ​

Although Signy is young she would say that she is working, since when she is at home, she does all that she can to help around the farm, and thus would definitely consider this to some degree a profession, other than this she is really just a student at school. ​

Wolfgang Forstrom, wizard, farmer, attended the russian school of magic.​

MOTHER:​

Hanna Josselin Forstrom, witch, farmers wife, potioneer, attended HS Gryffindor.​

OTHER:​

The only person of note is her cousin, Andi Forstrom, who she is incredibly close to, given that they are the same age, Signy grew up with her and she is her closest friend. She loves her like a sister and the only sister she would ever want. ​

PET(S)​

Signy lives on a farm, and though its not a large farm it does have a few animals none of which she would class as pets because they arent really pets. She has always wanted a dog, but given that they do have a farm to look after her parents have never really been keen on the idea. She does however have a horse, its quite expensive to keep but Signy has helped raise the animal and loves her dearly. ​

THOUGHTS ON BLOOD STATUS:​

Having never cared about it, shes never really given it any thought, her blood status has always just been something that is. Not something she put her mind to and considered important. She can understand why some might, but she doesnt care and shell never think less of any person who is of any other kind of blood, she is far more likely to think less of a person depending on how they face work. ​

HOMETOWN:​

The farm which Signy lives on is not near a town really, so she doesnt really have a home town in the traditional sense, her home is just where shes always lives and it with her cousins house are the only two in quite a large radius, so its a town or a small collection of houses that can be given a name. ​

CURRENT RESIDENCE:​

Signy has never moved in her life, and nor would she really want to. Moving would mean leaving the farm and she doesnt want that. ​

THE PLACE TO LIVE:​

Having only really ever known the farm and her cousins farm her entire life, she hasnt really ever liked anywhere else and so shed say them, they are the place shed want to live at, they are to her the most perfect place in the world and nothing could ever top them. The hard work that she and her family put into them, is definitely part of the reason she loves it so much, shes proud of what they have. ​

FIRST HOME: The farm house she lives on is the only home that Signy has ever known, and she loves it. Its her favourite place in the world, though it can often be mess, smell bad and just not be the best looking, all of her best memories have been on the her farm or her cousins farm which is right next to hers. She has always loved it. Since she is the only daughter of her parents she gets a lot of her own space. ​

HAIR COLOUR: ​

Signy has blonde hair, that is ever so slightly wavy when she doesnt do anything with it. Its fairly long falling almost to the mid range of her back, while it can be a bit long for the work that she does on the farm she loves it too much to have it any shorter. She ties it up in buns and ponytails, largely keeping it out of her eyes. While she doesnt spend too much time on her appearance it is only her hair that shell spend a little bit longer on. Signy loves her hair. She loves it so much that she hates even getting it a little cut. ​

HAIR HAS BEEN DYED​

Signy has always loved her hair, she truly loves it and would never ever want to change it. Because of this she would never dye her hair, she likes it on other people but she doesnt think she could ever do that to her own hair. She loves her own hair, and she loves the look of it, the feel and how healthy it is. ​

EYE COLOUR: ​

Signy has brown eyes, they are very much like her fathers and she really likes them, even though some might call them plain she has always really liked her eye colour. To her its the perfect size and shape and they are framed by near perfect eyelashes in her mind so shes hardly complaining about it. ​

Signy currently has no birthmarks and no scars. ​

BODY TYPE: ​

Currently at Signys young age she has a slim lean build. Having always worked on a farm shes not out of shape and even could claim to have a little muscle despite her young age. Shes a little taller than the average girl of her age, and has a slightly awkwardly lanky frame. She works hard outdoors in manual labour and its obvious in her build since while shes slim it is not in a manner that makes her appear underweight rather it just seems to suit her very outdoorsy personality and look even better. Signy has always liked how she looks, and she considers herself to not be horrible looking. ​

While she knows this, Signy knows that shell never need it, being a witch definitely has its advantages to being muggle where she would have to know it, or someone would have to if ever she got into such a situation that she needed it for. ​

Signy has always been right handed, she never seemed to indicate that she was anything else, and really she could care less about it. She just writes when she has to barely even giving what hand shes writing with any thought at all. ​

VOICE: ​

Signy having been raised in New Zealand has a Kiwi accent, its got a slight twang in it given that her father has a much less of an accent that her mother and the mixture of the two gives Signy a slightly different accent that most. But she isnt bothered by this in the slightest and really she has never really picked up on it. Its just always been how she sounds. ​

I CAN SPEAK:​

Signys family might originate from Sweden, but she can not speak anything more than a couple of words that her father taught her, usually they being farm terms. Aside from that all that Signy can speak is English, she likes being able to speak a little bit of Swedish though shed love to know more and she loves being able to speak english. Signy thinks that English is the best language in the world. ​

I AM ALLERGIC TO:​

Signy is not allergic to anything, much to her enjoyment. She would hate to have to limit herself in any manner, she loves to eat and she loves to never have to think about what shes buying. ​

PERSONAL STYLE: ​

Signys style can easily be explained by calling it tomboyish, she likes nice and fancy clothes, but shell only wear that kind of thing if she needs to, Signy likes to be comfortable and though she is discovering more and more that she does like clothes, she knows when to dress nice and when its not necessary. Given that she grew up on a farm and helped out, nice clothes were never an option and she feels most comfortable in old, ill fitting clothes that are suited towards labour and the outdoors. She likes colours, she wears a lot of colours, and though the clothes get dirty easily shell never shy away from pale colours. Most of Signys clothes have at one point come into contact with mud, given that her family is magical, she is generally unconcerned with dirtying the clothes. ​

CHARACTER LIKES: ​

Signy loves her farm, she loves the work, the animals and just everything about it. She loves working in the rain or the sun, in the winter or the summer, she just loves pitching in and doing her bit of the family. She loves being able to have a relaxing evening after a hard days work. Signy loves fresh fruit and vegetables, she loves being able to have fresh orange in the morning. She adores the sunrise and the sunset, she loves being outside and having dirt in her nails, she just really loves that feeling of achievement that comes with her living and being on the farm. Signy loves her family, and she loves being around her friends, especially Andi. ​

CHARACTER DISLIKES: ​

Signy really dislikes people who dont work hard, and just expect everything to be done for them, she works exceedingly hard and doesnt understand or like people who dont. She doesnt like when people force others to do things they dont want to do, and she doesnt like when people mock her for her farm life. She doesnt like when she has to spend too much time indoors and she doesnt really like when shes stuck doing the work that she must when someone is trying to distract her from the task at hand (apart from if its Andi). Signy dislikes a lot of frozen produce that isnt fresh. She dislikes when she cant just be and act like herself. ​

GOALS: ​

Being so young, Signy has not yet formed many goals, currently she just desires to get through school, shed like to do well, and aspires to do well within her classes, but aside from that she has few goals and ideas about what she wants to do once she is an adult. ​

BOGGART: ​

She fears losing all that she has in her life the most, so any kind of loss, whether it be her mother, her father, or her cousin, she would be heartbroken, and thus it is, what she fears above all other things and what the boggart would appear to her as. ​

PATRONUS: ​

PATRONUS MEMORY:​

Signy has countless good memories, most of them either involving Andi or the farm, likely the strongest is one that combines the two, Andi was at her house for some reason, it didnt really require a reason and they just had a night of fun, she remembers feeling just so happy, and so elated. Nothing about the night wasnt perfect to her. She loved being able to sit with her cousin and just have fun, and its just the most happy shes ever been.​

DEMENTOR: ​

Signy has not faced many challenges in her short life, there has always been the possibility of losing the farm, because they are largely living off the land rather than mass producing for sale, most of the income comes from Signys mother who doesnt make a whole lot, because of this, the thought of losing it all brings up so much dread in her that any thought of it, or any discussion about money directly relating as to if theyd have enough to keep the farm has always been her hardest memories to face.​

VERITISERUM: ​

Signy has always wanted a cat, her life has always been pretty easy, her parents while not spoiling her, but did always give her what she needed to survive and be happy, the only thing she hasnt ever gotten was a cat, while Signy has proved time and again that she would be more than capable of looking after a cat but her parents have always said no, and she only ever asks when she really desires one, and while its not really a secret, it is something that she desires to have but would never say it to anyone but her parents. ​

MIRROR OF ERISED​

Owning the farm that she works on has always dream of hers and she knows shes likely to get it when her father grows too old to look after it, so she would see herself, and the farm, likely she would see herself having kept it together and functioning. She would see her father looking at her proudly and shed have her own partner and children whod be helping out, her best friend and cousin would be by her side. ​

AMORENTIA: ​

Likely though it wouldnt be an odour appealing to most, shed smell the farm, to her its everything that is home, the place where she grew up, a place that she loves and treasures deeply in her heart. She would likely also smell sun cream, given that her work is outside a lot and in the summer it is necessary for her to wear lots of it that she associates it with working hard on the farm. Shed likely also smell a real fire, the smell that it emits, she just always really liked the smell. ​

I LOOK UP TO:​

Despite Signy having some aspects of her personality which can be termed as outgoing, she looks up to her cousin, Andi, they have always been really close, but shes always highly respected her cousin and in many ways does try to be like her, shell always take her opinion into consideration and would do almost anything she asked of her. Signy is her own person, but she easily respects the way her cousin is, her strong nature, unafraid to speak her mind. ​

RELIGIOUS BELIEFS:​

Given that her family has been magical for a number of generations, it has been a while since there was any sort of religion within her household, and this wasnt something that bothers Signy, if anything she knows very little about religion or any specific one, and shes definitely okay with this. She doesnt think there could be a higher power. She believes in honest, hard work, she doesnt think that anything would be better than a good day of hard work, of being nice to one another because its right and just letting people live how they want. ​

Signy is a kind and warm hearted person, she believes in a honest and hard working life. She was raised on a farm and is neither afraid to get her hands dirty or work in the fields all day. She is friendly to those around her, sometimes a little eager to please them but tries hard and if something is too much she will draw a line. She is quite tomboy-ish, she doesnt about how she looks, and dresses very casually. Shes very family orientated and enjoys spending time with them. Shes always looking to have fun, but knows the importance of balance. While very relaxed, shell never understand people who dont work hard, or dont understand the importance of working hard. She doesnt come a really from a well off family and is always thankful for what she has. Signy is not particularly studious but she will always work as hard as she can to achieve all that she is capable of. Shes a very outdoors person, not really the type of person who can take being inside all of the time. She is loyal to her family and their way of life. ​

THOUGHTS ABOUT WAND​

Signy was very excited about her wand, she couldnt wait to get it, but when she got her wand it was with Andi, and her cousin had seemed more keen so she let her cousin go first, but when Signy finally held her wand in her hand, it was worth waiting for, it was just so perfect, and she loved every bit of it, especially the core, she thought the core was the most incredible thing. All in all she thought it was the best thing, and it felt incredible in her hand.​

FIRST THOUGHTS:​

Though she had heard stories, and seen pictures of it, it didnt quite really amount to what it was actually like in person, to Signy who had spent most of her time on a farm, just helping out and never really seeing much of the world, even the wizarding world in was just in another planet, she couldnt believe that such a castle could exist and function as Hogwarts very easily appeared to. She knew shed have the best time at the school. ​

THOUGHTS WHILE BEING SORTED​

Signy was torn, she wanted to be with her cousin Andi a lot, she wanted them to be together throughout their school, but she wasnt sure if theyd end up in the same place, she knew that Andi was far more strong willed and she though her own personality would drag them down. ​

SORTING POST:​

Signy tightly clasped Andi's hand in hers as they both stepped into the great hall, she could hardly believe she was a first year, that they were first years together at Hogwarts, of course it had always been the plan, they'd attend school together, they'd be able to experience the seven years of schooling together. Signy was feeling nervous about it, she was sure that her time at Hogwarts would be nothing but good, but the thought of being sorted filled her stomach with butterflies, she usually worked for whatever she had, she did just get sorted, although she was calming her mind by just thinking of a house rather than as a defining trait of who she was but as a challenge to work at being the best kind of hufflepuff, or gryffindor that she could be. However, this still required her to get a house, to be sorted. The young blonde had her hair politely tied back in a ponytail, she had scrubbed her nails to ensure that not one spec of dirt could be found in them on this exceedingly important first night at school. After all, this would be a defining moment of change in her life. She had been waiting to go to magical school for years and finally now it was time, she was here, she with Andi, and together they would face this. That being said, Signy wasn't sure she wanted to end up in the same house as Andi, of course having someone she knew extremely well and cared about would only be an advantage but she didn't think they needed to be together to continue to be as close as they were, so while she would be so happy to be sorted with her, her mind also argued that being at this magical school with all these people would not be less amazing if she didn't have Andi in the same house as her, but of course Signy knew that Andi would be sorted first, so she could see where her cousin ended up and then use that to help make her decision. ​

Signy stood closer to Andi as they crowded around the front of the hall, and looked towards the professor, or was this the headmistress? She had done a little reading, a little bit of work before coming to the school, and she knew what the process would be, she had done a little reading on the houses, feeling more comfortable knowing a little to be able to know what it meant when she ended up somewhere. Of course the first thing she would do would be to write to her father about where she ended up, knowing that the man was as excited about this part of Signy's life as she was. Being the only child definitely seemed to help her in that regard. The song was odd, she knew it was happening, but a singing hat was definitely still a strange thing, she knew that most wizards could not do such a thing. The girl was glad when it was over but it meant the sorting had begun and her nervousness sky rocket back into place. She squeezed Andi's hand a little as the first names got sorted and as it closer to them she couldn't help the excitement that definitely seemed to take precedence. She felt her nervousness slip away and her excited for what was to come take it's place. ​

Hearing her name first, reminded Signy that Andi's name was not Andi, it was the nickname that she had just for so long known her as. At the little shove from her cousin, she let go of the girl's hand and stepped forward, through the still thick crowd until she was at the stool. The girl sat herself down and proceeded to let the hat be placed on her head, she took a deep breath and thought of the farm, her family, to help calm her as the hat made it's decision.​
