Seventh Years, Lesson One

James leaned against his desk as he watched the seventh years make their way into the classroom and start to take their seats. "Come in, take your seats," Once he had a full house, at least according to his register, he waved his wand to close the classroom door.

"Welcome back seventh years, most of you will remember me from last year but for those that are new or those that forgot about me, first of all ouch, second of all my name is Professor James Cade but James or sir will do just fine," He was still adjusting to the titles and ways students addressed their teachers, it all sounded too formal for his liking, thank merlin he hadn't won the election. "Last year you learned non-verbal magic, this year we will be adding to that with wandless magic, a daunting task for some of you I'm sure but I assure you, you will all finish this year with the ability to do so...or you'll fail," It might have sounded harsh and was a tad hyperbolic as their NEWT exam was just as much about everything else they had learned so far as it was what they would learn this year. "It will be hard work, but my door will be open to those who wish to speak to me after hours, if you put the work in I will work with you, and if you have any questions you know where to find me," Keeping his wand in his pocket, James instead raised his fingers and with a flick of the wrist the classroom door opened once again. "Class dismissed, come back next week ready to work because your final year at Hogwarts will not be an easy one,"

Elio made his way into the classroom, taking a seat towards the middle of the world. He watched as Professor Cade leaned casually against his desk, a contrast to the weighty task he’d just outlined. He had to admit he kind of appreciated the straightforward approach - Cade's send of humour made the daunting promise of handless magic feel a little less insurmountable, but the problem of course was he was still trying to master wordless magic as it was. Now he had to master wandless as well? When the professor flicked his wrist to open the door, demonstrating the precise skill they’d need to master, Elio's jaw tightened in anticipation. The pressure of NEWTs combined with the challenge of wandless magic felt like a lot, but he couldn’t help but feel a spark of determination. As the class was dismissed, Elio gathered his things, his mind already buzzing with questions. Wandless magic was something he'd always admired from afar, and now that it was within his grasp - or at least Cade insisted it would be - he was resolved to give it his all. Maybe he’d stop by Cade’s office later for pointers, but for now, he headed out, silently practicing flicking his fingers the way Cade had.
