Seventh Years, Lesson Four

The classroom looked a little different to what the seventh years would have been used to up to that point in the year as the desks had been pushed to the side leaving a large space in the middle of the classroom. He stood back and waited for his students to make their way inside and he directed them inside with a wave of his hand. "Put your bags by the door and come on in," Once they were all inside he waved his hand to close the door. "Today we will be practicing wandless magic to build on your successful attempts at nonverbal magic, now many of you will have performed wandless magic unwittingly as a child before you came to Hogwarts however, to perform it with more complex spells will take, practice and skill which you're all used to by now,"

James motioned his hand to a table he had set up toward the back of the classroom which had a number of scrolls laid out across it. "We'll start with something simple which should help you get started, we will be practicing the summoning charm which you learned to perform back in your first year with wands, this will take a clear mind and a lot of patience, you have become dependant on your wands and they will feel like an extension of yourself, this remains the case so using magic without them will take time to master,"

"Using wandless magic, summon a scroll from the table at the back of the room, visualise the scroll leaving the desk and coming into your hand, feel free to say the incantation out loud if this makes things easier for you but you should eventually come to a point where you can perform the spell non-verbal and wandless, you can start practicing whenever you are ready,"
James spent the lesson moving between the students helping out anyone who needed it. When their time was up he got their attention once more. "Good work today, continue to practice in your free time and if anyone needs help my door is always open, class dismissed,"

Elio still wasn't sure how he felt about things within the school, though he supposed he just had to grin and bear it, as they say. As he walked into the classroom, he popped his bag by the door as he was told to and pulled out his wand to practice magic like he was asked, even though he wasn't confident in his skills with non-verbal magic. Sometimes he wondered whether the whole wand thing just made magic less easy to access because he'd known people who went to Uagadou that were just using it intrinsically and none of them had wands, as they predominantly learned more natural magic without one. He thought that would be pretty cool, but after years of using a wand, it felt like maybe that access was a little stilted. He got started on visualising the scroll like they were asked, trying to summon it from the back of the desk and appearing in front of him. It took him a couple of tries before he got it and then eventually he felt a little more confident in it. He hoped he would pick it up easier as he went along, but he wasn't sure how he felt about it at all, since this whole wandless thing felt like maybe he just wasn't getting it down like other people were and that did kind of eat away at his confidence.

Savannah was concentrating a lot on the different things she had to do. Keen to make sure that she wasn’t letting herself get too caught up in her exams and exam revision when she had to do the work for being a prefect and SDA lead. However, she also knew that above everything else, she was keen to pass her exams and do well in her NEWTs. That was her priority but she was currently in a space where they were a bit away and she could in theory dedicate time to it. Savannah pushed the thoughts aside and then grabbed the different things she had and then headed out of the dorm room and to class.

Savannah walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and immediately noticed the difference in the room. How the room was presented, and then the professor explained the why and it didn’t matter how she’d felt about how the room looked because learning wandless magic was absolutely what she wanted to do. Savannah moved to where the professor told them, resiting the urge to grab her wand, and then just nodded along to what was said. The professor let them have a go at it, and she raised her hand, and then said, ”Accio,” it took a little but it did eventually fly into her hand. She did it a few times and got quicker at it each time, though she did have to say the incantation each time. The lesson was eventually wrapped up and Savannah headed out of the room.
