Second Years Lesson Four

At times, there were spells that were taught in this class the Professor Adler didn't always agree with. Or perhaps, she didn't quite agree with how they were being taught. When she was at school, sat at these desks like her students were now, things had been very different when Professor Styx had been teaching her, and perhaps she should have called upon his influence now as she considered the best way of teaching the students. Of course, the curriculum had changed a little since those days, but it didn't mean she couldn't adopt a new old approach.

"Today we'll be discussing the knee-reversing hex. Of course this spell is also a prank, however it's harder to use than others so I don't expect you to try this one out today." There would be students that would want to, and Professor Adler wasn't going to limit those that wanted to give it a go, but it was expected given its difficulty in casting. "Why would a spell like this have been created in the first place?" she asked the class, moving around the desks, ignoring those who'd raised their hands. "Why would someone want to use a spell that reverses someone's knees?" The blonde continued, "and what could you do to protect yourself from it?" She hoped they would at least have some idea at this point, but the proof would be in their homework. "I don't want you to tell me, I want you to write it down and hand it in to me at the end of the class. I feel as though I don't need to explain what exactly a knee-reversing jinx looks like, you're all capable of imagining this one for yourselves. That being said if you would like to practice, you can of course try it out on a dummy."

Professor Adler perched on the front of her desk. While knowing some of these spells would be good for pranks, she had to admit she'd never been one for using magic against other people for the purpose of humiliation. Even during her own duels in the tournament, she'd chosen practical spells over those that were designed to be funny. "Next week we will be going into some of the more usual spells, one's that you probably won't see very often but it's good to be aware of their existence." Professor Adler was just looking forward to teaching them the more serious defensive magic.
