Six years ago Ferdinand wouldn't have imagined himself as a prefect. Even now that the role had become very real in front of his face, it was difficult for the Ravenclaw to believe the badge pinned tightly against his uniform wasn't some sort of sick joke from the hands of his peers at his expense. While he knew the role was prestigious, and established superiority above other students it felt more like a heavy burden than anything. He constantly questioned the logic behind the decision out of all people, to appoint him as prefect. Running the Hogwarts monthly and keeping a constant, restrictive schedule was all he had going for him and it seemed to overshadow his otherwise selfish personality. But it was his dwindling interest in magical education that made him question the role entirely. There was certainly a long list of more academically inclined Ravenclaws that could have been promoted in his place. A fact he had been aware of from the beginning, though something he attempted to ignore for sanity's sake. It was typical for him to let a decision supposedly made in his favor stress him out to an insane degree. Yet here he was, shoulders squared; expected to swallow his doubts and patrol the castle like the role model he certainly wasn't.

If it weren't for guidance in the form of Kelsey Ariyah Boneheart, he was sure his constantly racing, questioning mind would implode on itself. Strolling alongside the blonde, hand in hand, with their fingers intertwined made any ill feelings he had of the unknown fade away. He needed her, more than he cared to admit. The confident influence she gave him meant he had something to rely on. "This is kind of boring." Being captured in the midst of comfort found within clutching Kelsey's hand within his own was short lived, as his mind changed pattern to realize his lack of interest towards this patrol. With the amount of 'rebellious' students within the school walls Ferdinand expected a more eventful night pacing the stone corridors. His expectations fell short of what was turning out to be a waste of his time. At least he felt contempt knowing other prefects had to withstand the same, tedious tasks. If he weren't supposed to be out on this patrol he wouldn't be studying, though he was sure he could conjure a more productive way to spend the night. He squeezed Kelsey's hand slightly, choosing this moment to pause his ever growing torpid steps and face her.

There were many questions in the back of his mind, all of which craved an answer. Procrastination was a habit Ferdinand never let himself fall into but it was the uncertainty of Kelsey's answers that kept his queries hidden behind his teeth. Could he mention them now? The castle during dusk was haunting but the empty halls provided a form of privacy they hadn't otherwise found. Since Kelsey's visit during the holidays their time alone was spent in passing, sharing fleeting glances between classes or in the presence of others. Until now spilling his seemingly endless list of questions hadn't been an option. "Let me be serious for a second." His tone pierced the otherwise relaxed atmosphere but he really had no choice. There were many questions he needed to ask his girlfriend; some more serious than others but in all his anxiety regarding her answers he chose to start off lightly. Mentioning her recent angry outbursts seemed an easy step. "Are you feeling alright?"
