When not dressed in robes, Riley usually dons a simple t-shirt and gym shorts or cargoes. He finds cargoes especially useful because they contain pockets, perfect for storing essential items for pranks. In fact, his general rule for clothing is, "The more pockets, the better." When he's not barefoot, he usually wears sneakers. After all, it's much easier to run in them than flip-flops or boots.

Riley absolutely hates cloaks, long sleeves, and pants. They're constricting and "suffocate" him. Usually, he has no need for them because he rarely gets cold.

Generally, Riley couldn't care less about his appearance. He'll usually just throw on whatever's nearest him in the mornings. According to him, he has better things to do than try to decide what to wear. Riley's also the type of person who's never dressy enough for formal events.

History:
Riley generally had a very happy childhood. He was born to Marcus and Amy Lightfoot, two muggles who had met in secondary school and dated throughout university. He was their first child, and they pampered and spoiled him. From the beginning, they knew he was special. Once, Amy returned home to find Riley gurgling happily and the bars in his crib gone. They had vanished completely.

Over the next few years, things mysteriously disappeared, furniture caught on fire, and inanimate objects moved. Amy and Marcus were mystified and tried seeking input from scientists and even psychics, but they never found out why these things had occurred.

When Riley was 7, two important things happened.

First, he had a new sister, Adelaide. Riley absolutely adored her, and to this day, is still extremely protective of her.

Next, Marcus had to move to Melbourne because his company had decided to transfer him to Australia. Riley was ecstatic. This was the land of kangaroos! Koalas! The great outback! When they finally moved, he was a bit disappointed considering that Melbourne was just a plain old city like Auckland. However, he settled in fairly quickly.

The only issue was school. From the start, he found it fairly difficult and never seemed to have the attention span for his classes. What made it worse was the occasional bullying. Not only did he have to contend with the fact that he was the new kid with the weird accent, but he also had to deal with his growing reputation as the strange kid. Inexplicable things happened when he was around. Objects combusted, and anything he touched seemed to break down almost immediately. When things disappeared, he was always the primary suspect. One day, a large bookcase suddenly collapsed, nearly crushing a student. Although they couldn't quite link Riley to the incident, it was clear he had to transfer somewhere else.

Although his school troubles frustrated him, Riley sought comfort in sports. From an early age, Amy and Marcus had signed him up for numerous sports, hoping to help burn off some of his excess energy. Through them, he built up a solid group of friends who he often created mischief with.

As he grew older, Riley gravitated towards running, which thrilled Amy and Marcus. They had both run track throughout university and had dreamed of professional careers. Injuries and reality had settled in, however, but they were happy to discover Riley was not only interested in running, but also good at it.

One day while at a track meet, Riley's foot passed through a hurdle. He was bewildered but decided to keep quiet for fear of getting disqualified. However, another parent confronted him after the meet. What followed was an extremely perplexing conversation during which the parent (who was also a wizard) determined that these magical occurrences had been happening to Riley for years.

The next day, the wizard tracked down Amy and Marcus. In a conversation with the entire Lightfoot family, the wizard revealed the existence of the magical world and informed them of the different wizard school options. At first, Amy and Marcus were skeptical, but it was the only possible explanation for the strange phenomena that seemed to follow Riley.

The February after Riley turned 11, he enrolled in Hogwarts New Zealand. He considered numerous schools, mostly Australian ones close to home, but he decided that he couldn't pass up the chance to return to New Zealand.
