REMY FORRESTER
"He had the awkward tenderness of someone who has never been loved and is forced to improvise."

Isabel Allende, The House of The Spirits

Name: Remy Ainsel Forrester
Birthdate: 31st July 2046
Pronouns: He/him
Blood Status: Half-blood
Residence: New Zealand
Education: Hogwarts New Zealand

Appearance
✧༺🍀༻✧
Looks: Remy has brown hair, brown eyes, and a resting kicked puppy face. He is of average height and weight for his age.
Style: As the world's youngest old man, Remy takes his style inspiration from the octogenarians at the retirement village where his grandmother does flower arrangements. He likes to be comfortable, and that comes in the form of knitted jumpers and cardigans.
Health: Remy is prone to catching any illnesses that are going around, but is otherwise in good health.
Allergies: Shellfish
Distinguishing Features: Remy has burn scars on his arms and stomach from the lab explosion that killed his father. Healers treated him quickly and fixed the worst of the burns, leaving him with only pale white scars that become more visible in the summertime. Remy is self-conscious about them and tends to cover them.

How Remy finds anything in here is a mystery. He owns far too many knitted jumpers and employs the "roll into ball and shove" method of folding.

Personality
✧༺🍀༻✧
While Remy isn't always good at being nice, he tries to be kind where he can. He doesn't have a lot of practice at it, as he preferred his own company and hasn't quite gotten around to having to factor in other peoples' feelings. He can be blunt and standoffish as a result of his upbringing, but he hates upsetting anyone and fades into the background when faced with social conflict. He is also very stubborn about what he wants and gets himself stuck feeling guilty when his desires don't match those of the people he cares about. He likes to be helpful and can be easily manipulated if he thinks he's doing the right thing, but takes being tricked or lied to very seriously and will hold a grudge.

Remy could have been highly intelligent if it weren't for the moths in his brain that eat all his thoughts when he tries to string them together. Remy likes to study, but inevitably gets distracted and is only interested in learning about anything other than what he's supposed to. He enjoys carving little animals out of wood & knitting, both of which he learned from his grandparents.

Hopes: Finding friends, becoming a braver person, crafting a small army of tiny wooden creatures
Fears: Fire, loud noises, accidentally hurting someone with his magical abilities and proving he's a monster

Wand: Curved 12 1/2 Inch Flexible Holly Wand with Thestral Tail
Holly - A protective wand, Holly takes on many traits of the core that it holds. A rare wand to find, Holly is notoriously difficult to pair.
Thestral Tail Hair - One of the rarest of wands cores, thestral hair is not to be taken lightly as a wand core. Thestral hair is a tricky ingredient to work with and will not just bond with any caster. This core works best for people who have faced death in the past. Because of the fears of the creature from which it comes, rumours have abounded that thestral hair wands have no allegiance to the wand's caster.

Family
✧༺🍀༻✧

Father: Matthew Forrester. An eccentric potioneer who was killed in a laboratory accident. Remy remembers everything about the accident, though he tries to focus on the good times with his father.

Mother: Chantilly Forrester. A Squib from a magical family. She developed an interest in potions and used to assist her husband in the non-magical aspects of potion making. After his death, she decided that the wizarding world had no place for someone with no magic and chose to move in with her in-laws.

History
✧༺🍀༻✧

Remy's childhood was fairly typical of a young wizard. His family kept a garden to grow ingredients for their small potions business and Remy has many fond memories of watching his parents work together to create all sorts of potions. Remy's father, Matthew, was a muggleborn wizard, while his mother, Chantilly, was a Squib from an old wizarding family. When Remy was nine years old, his father was fatally injured in an accident in his potions lab. He had been trying to combine the motorius spell with a shimmerlung draught, which caused an explosion. Remy had been in the room at the time, but managed to be saved by Healers.

After this event, Chantilly moved Remy to live with his paternal grandparents, who are both muggles, and sought to separate herself from the wizarding world entirely. Remy's burgeoning magical ability was a constant reminder of the dangers of magic, leading Remy to feel as though he is only seen as a ticking time bomb by his mother. She encouraged him to suppress his magic and live a "normal" life as a muggle, until his Hogwarts letter arrived and they could no longer pretend he wasn't going to be a wizard like his father had been.

Sorting:
Remy wasn't sure he'd made the right decision. He kept picturing the barely-disguised disappointment on his mum's face as the train had pulled away from the station. She'd begged him to reconsider going to Hogwarts, in favour of staying home and attending a nice, normal muggle school so he wouldn't end up like his father. Remy had almost folded. He thought it might be nice to go to a school with a rugby team instead of quidditch and get to go home every evening, but he knew deep down that he'd be stewing in regret soup forever if he never even tried to learn magic.

He didn't like standing in the Great Hall with all the other students, although the hall itself was kind of amazing. He kept glancing around the room for signs of magic, feeling uneasy at so much being everywhere. Magic was banned in his home since his father's accident and Remy pulled a loose thread in his sleeve to ground himself and stop thinking about it.. It was just a lot for him to be dealing with alone and Remy wished someone would just come down and tell him that, yes, he was in the right place and this hadn't been a big test that he'd failed by simply showing up. There were more important things to be afraid of at that moment, such as trying to remember the alphabet so he'd be prepared when his name was called.

"Forrester, Remy." Remy bit the inside of his cheek to stop any facial expressions forming and shuffled forward. He didn't see the point in separating people into different houses when they were supposedly all magical, so this whole process was more intimidating than anything to him. He winced as the hat was put down on his head, and hoped he wouldn't suddenly find out about a secret fifth house because he didn't belong anywhere else.

"I'll let you in on a little secret...there is no fifth house. If you received a letter, it means you're just as magical as everyone else waiting to be sorted. You'll see it soon just like I can see it in here. I see a lot about it. That's how I know you belong in...Hufflepuff!"
