Kailey leaned against the side of the north tower wall looking out at the view. A letter clutched lightly in her hand, Her eyes were a bit shiny but she held back her very few tears. She was happy her siblings had been born but was sad that she missed it. She had missed several thing over her three years in New Zealand. Her brothers funeral, Her family, Her muggle friends whom she had lost contact wth, and now she missed the birth of her siblings. She let out a small sigh as her eyes dried up from the wind which was blowing her curls into her face.

Njord, opened the door that led to the North Tower roof. He wasn't sure why he wanted to go there but it seemed like the thing to do. The sun was bright and clear that day, and while it was chilly outside, it was actually quite nice as the breeze was faint.

Stepping through the door, he saw a familiar figure against the wall, looking out across the landscape. His heart skipped a beat when he saw her but he wasn't sure why. Taking a deep breath to get his heart back in working over he stepped outside, smiled and greeted her. "Hello Kailey, what brings you up here today?" Instantly he saw her face and knew she wasn't her usual happy self. "What's wrong, are you okay?" he said with concern.

Kailey was shaken from her thoughts by the entrance to the tower opening. She didn;t look back and wondered who it was. She heard the quiet footsteps come closer to her which caused her to infer that it was someone she knew. She just hoped that her eyes were completely dry incase she had to look at whoever it was.

Thats when she heard it, The voice of the guy who had taken a rather good portion of her heart and refused to give it back. Kailey turned to him with the happiest look she could muster and said, "Hey Njord, I just needed to think some." but apparently her feelings were not so easily hidden as he asked what was wrong. She let out a small sigh and began to explain her current state of mind, "Nothings really wrong, I got a letter saying my mom gave birth about a week ago. It's a happy event but at the same time it made me realize that I miss so much when I'm here. I mean, I went a whole week not knowing I had two more siblings for goodness sake. I didn't even know she was expecting twins!" Kailey said, she realized she was starting to ramble and her face got a pink tint to it. "Sorry..." she replied quietly.

"Wow, that does suck." Njord said with sincereity in his voice. "But at least you have sibblings. I'm an only child and pretty much grew up with only my grandparents to keep me company. It's probably the one thing I don't like about my family." Njord too realized he was rambling and stopped. It was too easy to talk Kailey, even easier then it was talking to Alice back in Scotland.

"Well, I can leave if you like, or stay and cheer you up, which would you prefer?" he said with a smile hoping to lighten the mood. He didn't like to talk about his family much and needed to close the door before any more got out. This wasn't the time or place to divulge his family's issues.

"An only child? That's a concept completely foriegn to me as I've never been an only child. I guess that would kind of suck too though..." Kailey trailed off, when he said he was going to go Kailey blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "Don't go!" she realized how desperate she sounded and quickly turned pink. She remembered her promise to Zazuka and couldn't back down from it. She just hoped it didn't make things awkward between them. "I actually kind of need to tell you something." she said quietly regretting the words as soon as they left her mouth. I'm not this brave! What was I thinking!!! she thought

Njord was curious what Kailey would have to say. They saw each other almost every day in class and while things around them were always very educational based he did enjoy her company. Njord had also been a little lost since Andromeda left so he had been using Kailey as his new companion. "Sure, you can tell me anything." he said hoping she was not going to tell him that he was spending too much time with her.

((sorry for this background info, I thought it might make more sense if Kailey and Njord had some more contact before this...I can edit if you want))

[ No, Thats good :D They have to do SOMETHING during all that elapsed time that comes with having a month in a week lol.]

"Well..."Kailey started looking at him, her heart flying. She turned her head forget it! No, you're too far in now!She slowly turned back to him and bit her lip. "I...kindasortalikeyouasmorethanafriend." it all came out together Her eyes started looking around for an escape but seeing as the were at the top of one of the tallest towers of the castle and Njord was blocking the entrance she was trapped. She took a deep breath, braced herself for the reaction, and just hoped he didn't hate her now.

[lol, that was so fun to write :D ]

Njord's eyebrows raised and his jaw fell slightly open. "Oh...Um...wow...Okay." Njord stuttered and his face turned a light shade of pink. The wheels in his head started turning and it dawned on him him that perhaps he too liked Kailey more then a friend, but he was completely unsure how to define it. He then realized that the silence that filled the air was beginning to suffocate them both. He didn't know what to say. "I don't know what to say..." He began to look at the ground and shuffle his feet. He knew he was blowing it but the words wouldn't come out. Okay, like ripping off a band aid... "Um...I kinda like you more then a friend too." Njord was sure his heart had stopped beating and instinctually bit his lip while he waited for the repercussions of what had just transpired between him and Kailey. Their friendship was now changed forever and he hoped it wasn't a mistake in admitting their connection.

Kailey felt like slapping herself on the head. How could I have been so stupid! She let out a sigh seeing his reaction "Okay...So..." She said hesitantly looking at him trying to guage his reaction, Not really knowing what they should do next. Was it worth it to have maybe ruined their friendship forever? They couldn't go back to what she realized had been slightly blissful ignorance now. She too bit her lip and turned her head to the ground. Kat, Rhyspa, and Zazuka had all said it was a good idea and he definitely liked her back. It turned out he did but was it really worth it? She looked back up at Njord and waited.

"Well...what do we do now?" He said looking at her. She too looked confused. And then like a train it hit him. "Hey, um, do you wanna go to the Yule Ball with me?...I mean if you don't already have a date?" he stammered.

"I don't already have a date, and I'd love to go to the Yule ball with you Njord." Kailey replied, a smile creeping up on her face as she looked at him/ I can't believe it....I'm going to the Ball with Njord! she thought happily, When she had walked up here she had been saddened and the most unexpected thing had happened. It seemed the North tower was their spot...They had met here and now the had revealed their feelings to one another here.

"Um...Okay...cool." Njord said, at which point he suddenly ran out of things to say. Looking around for inspiration, he found none. "Well, I guess I better go. I just came here to clear my head...and...well I've done that, and alot more." He was starting to sound like a blithering idiot and decided he better get going before he made her regret her confession. "So, I'll see ya in exams I guess..."

"It's getting a bit chilly out here so I think I'll go in too. So I'll...see you around then Njord." Kailey said smiling at him and giving him a small wave before walking down the tower and to the Ravenclaw common room feeling elated.
