Painting The Town Red

The smell of paint fumes would normally make people sick. The fact was a total lie when it came to Sapphire. She adored the smell of anything artistic. The spray paint had been sent by her sister, Topaz. As happy at Sapphire was to have means to graffiti the school, she felt as if she owed Topaz. Just one more thing I owe her for, Sapphire thought in annoyance. She loved her sister, but felt that Topaz knew her too well. Sapphire didn’t know her sister well enough, and she wasn’t the sort of person who was willing to try. Their personalities clashed too much for them to be real friends. Topaz was too distant and Sapphire just wasn’t good at making friends, full stop.

The blank canvas that had accompanied the bottles of spray paint had been spread out on the floor. Obviously, Topaz did not want Sapphire to be attacking the walls. Sorry, dearest sister. Sapphire would be painting the walls soon enough, but not quite yet. She didn't know they layout the school yet, or where was the best place to paint without being caught. Sapphire hoped that nobody would come up to the tower and yell at her because the canvas was rather large and took up quite a bit of space. People can walk around it, can't they? And if all else fails, get a broom! Sapphire smiled to herself, picking up a purple can of paint. Her hands grabbed for the familiar can, and Sapphire felt actual happiness, possibly for the first time since Sorting. She loved to paint. Sapphire loved art almost as much as she loved music and dancing - which was a whole lot.
