The Basics
Character's Name: Oswald Edwyn Brambleheart
Oswald is an old British name meaning 'divine power'. Edwyn, of similar origins, means 'wealthy friend'. Brambleheart was actually his grandfather's name - a little unwieldy for a goblin, but old Brambleheart was a bit of an oddity amongst goblins anyway. When his father was born, his grandparents decided they'd use that as a surname for their son.

Character's Birthdate: 2 April 2047

Hometown: Born in a small wizarding village outside Manchester, England - now lives near Brightstone Village in New Zealand.

Blood Status: Mixed-blood. He is 1/4 goblin, as his grandfather was one.

Wand: Curly 16 Inch Unyielding Mahogany Wand with Augurey Tail Feather Core
Mahogany wands are reliable and have a quiet power to them, excelling in transfiguration. Augurey tail feathers are seen as a symbol of death, but are useful for divination. It's a well carved wand that can be a bit stubborn, but the wood is solid and works well with the caster.

Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff
The hat was a little stumped on which house to sort him into. "Hmmmm...you're a little tricky. There's enough to make you either a Gryffindor or a Hufflepuff, but which…There's some desire for adventure and some creativity, a desire to prove yourself, but that's quieter....Hmmmm…. Hufflepuff,"

Appearance

Hair: He has a mop of messy red hair that he likes to keep long, especially to cover his ears.

Eyes: Pale blue.

Height: Short, even for a kid. He only just reaches 4' tall, and will maybe hit about 4'9"/4'10" by the time he's fully grown at best.

Style: He's not especially fussed about outfits, he'll just wear whatever. He usually has to dress down a few sizes or get anything specific like uniforms taken in to fit him, much to his annoyance, so he tries not to think about what to wear too much as it ends up being a pain.

Other Distinguishing Features: Aside from his small stature, the other main indicator about his lineage is his ears. They're mostly human shaped, but still a little pointed. He mostly tries to keep them hidden below his hair. As his background is a little more human than goblin his goblin features are more subtle but they're there if one looks closely. Oz doesn't like it when people look closely.

A Little Deeper

Personality: Deep down, Oz is a nice kid who's been well brought up to be polite and considerate. Unfortunately, after losing his parents, it's all kind of pushed down over a need to prove himself and general anger and frustration over the whole situation. He hates being pitied, or treated like a kid, or fussed over. Especially if he doesn't believe it's from a place of authenticity - there's nothing he hates more than false pity. He wants to prove that he's not a delicate child that needs to be handled with care and just wants to be treated normally. He will lash out if pushed but works to keep his temper in check but he is still a small kid with big emotions he hasn't been able to deal with properly. He's also gone from a family where his lineage was no big deal to being in a place where that's almost treated as either taboo or a reason to worry about him. He knew his family had had a difficult time fitting in because of the goblin thing but when he was in his own home, that was never seen as a problem. He really doesn't want people treating him weirdly because of that side of things, but they probably will.
Aside from that, he comes from a family of crafters, and particularly likes working with precision. Wood carving is a particular favourite of his, but also candlemaking, pottery, even embroidery. He's sharp-eyed and has a creative side to him but mostly prefers to temper his with precision. He's had a bit of trouble actually wanting to do it of late, but he's getting there again. Slowly, but surely.

History: Oz was born in a wizarding village in the north of England, where his parents ran a small wizarding arts and gift shop. He grew up around retail, helping out his family (as much as a small child could), learning to make things and being amazed by his grandfather's displays of wandless magic (as he'd later learn his grandfather was never allowed a wand anyway). His mother saw to it that he had some simple education, learning to read and write and the basics of what he'd need. He got a good handle on maths pretty quickly through the business side of things. Sadly, soon after his ninth birthday, his parents were out getting some supplies and caught in a minor attack. The assailant was quickly taken in, but it was too late - his parents had been caught in a blast and had not had enough time to react before being killed. Oz found it extremely difficult to believe at first, and many of the details were kept from him (though the truth of the matter was told as gently and honestly as possible) and deep down is possibly still in a bit of denial, or not quite willing to accept it completely. The shop was closed and Oz was sent to live with his living aunt so he could be raised with a sibling and by parents young enough to handle a child. Much to Oz's displeasure, his aunt and uncle were perhaps a little over worried about him, tending to fuss and try and keep him wrapped in cotton wool essentially, especially as they didn't really know how to handle the goblin thing properly. Or perhaps overly worried about things like whether he would be able to be given a wand, things which made him just feel uncomfortable. He was both relieved and nervous about going to Hogwarts - glad he'd have a bit more independence but now actually anxious about what the other kids would think of him, something he hadn't been worried about when he was younger.

Family: Oz's grandfather was a goblin working at Gringotts in the UK in the 2000s. As a show of solidarity and progress towards understanding after the wizarding war, Gringotts had employed some human staff as proof of a desire to improve human-goblin relations. While goblins still handled most of the goings on, humans were employed as assistants and liasons to better engage the public. Brambleheart had never wanted to work at Gringotts, but it was one of the few jobs available to him. And while most goblins resented humans, for obvious reasons, he had no strong opinions one way or the other. In fact, when he met Hortensia, a young woman employed under the outreach program, he was quite taken with her and made an effort to try and charm her. She was equally taken with him, and a fairly taboo relationship quickly picked up. Of course, they couldn't keep it under wraps forever, and when the higher ups found out, they weren't happy. Friendships were one thing, romantic entanglements were completely different, and the two of them were quickly fired. Much to Brambleheart's glee, as he was now freed up to go do what he really wanted to do - art. Hortensia was all too happy to follow him and they were soon married (by one of the only wizarding officiants happy to allow this) and established selling simple giftwares to witches and wizards.

Their son, Merric, was born a few years after they married, as they had had some difficulty conceiving (given the biological differences). They only ever had the one child, but loved him dearly. Even though they had to fight to actually get him a wand, being half goblin. And they weren't necessarily comfortable sending him to school, as much as they would've liked to send him to Hogwarts (Hortensia had been a Hufflepuff, herself). So, Merric was homeschooled, but once he was old enough travelled around a little where he met Eilonwy, the youngest of three sisters. Her family were a well to do Welsh wizarding family who weren't exactly approving of a union between their youngest daughter and a half goblin, but the sisters were each others fiercest defenders and saw how much Merric clearly adored her. Eilonwy was fairly business savvy herself, as well as having a love of handicrafts, so she was welcomed into Brambleheart's family with open arms. It was another few years before they had Oz, who while wasn't necessarily spoiled, never had to doubt the fact that his family adored him.

He now lives with his uncle and maternal aunt and their daughter, Audrey, and it's fair less warm and kind.
