Old Friends

[Skyle Anne Irene Darnelle]

Skyle hadn't been out in forever. Taking care of the baby took up most of her time now. She did have her time to herself occasionally when Angela came home from school, or Damien wasn't working. So Skyle had decided that since she had some time to spare she needed to have some social interaction with someone other than family or the nice old lady next door. So she was walking, one of her old habits from when she was younger. She had wandered into a park. It was filled with families and children playing. Skye smiled, with her original family in Japan they used to go to a park similar to this one. They would spend the day there and have a picnic lunch. She smiled at the memory, she wasn't going to let her sad past get her down, not now.

Skyle walked through the park for quite a while, it was really big. She didn't mind though it felt nice to stretch her legs. It was about then that she thought about leaving, but something stopped her. It wasn't him. She hadn't seen him in ages. But there he was with two other kids. 'Teddy.' She thought, what was he doing here. He looked much different, but she would know him anywhere. She wondered if she should go over. He was obviously here with people. But then she figured she had come here to talk to people, so she made her way over to him. "Hey Teddy."

Teddy laughed as he watched Olivia play with Oscar in the park. Olivia was now talking well and Oscar had started making sense some of the time instead of just garble. He was loving them more and more as they grew up and, now they were both eating real food and actually sleeping through the night, it was less stressful to raise them.

Teddy smiled and called them over for their snacks, it was almost lunch after all. He sat the two on the bench, thankful that they were good children as he saw the mothers with their unco-operative children. He gave them their sandwich boxes and, just when he was about to get the wipes from the push chair, he heard his name.

Teddy looked up to see her. Skyle Anne Irene Darnelle. She was part of his old life, his high school life where the biggest drama he had was his secret relationship ending and being in love with the cousin of the girl who loved him and here she was. Skyle had been his biggest crush yet, he had planned on getting to know her when the big tragedy hit and he left school and teenage life behind. "Skyle." He smiled awkwardly and ran his hand through his hair nervously. "Long time no see, how've you been?"

Skyle smiled, "Same old, same old." It was the truth her life was still what it always was a strictly planned routine, or a rut as Angela called it. Skye tried her best to control her life but seemed to fail miserably at it. All the things that could go wrong did and she had no control over it. "How have you been?" She looked over at the children and really hoped he was baby sitting. They were way to young to have kids in her eyes. Though she wouldn't mind if they were his as long as he was happy. She thought the same for Darian, her first boyfriend. Skye would never get over how both her previous relationships had left her for Angela. But that didn't mean they couldn't be friends.

Teddy paused and thought over what had happened since he last saw her. "Umm, well, There's been a lot going on." He was wondering whether or not he should continue when he felt a tugging on his leg. Olivia had finished and wanted some attention. He picked up his sister and and smiled as she giggled before he realised how strange he must seem, a sixteen year old with two children. "Oh, this is my sister, Livi, and over there is my brother, Oscar." He gestured to the little boy who was still eating but was watching them with great curiosity.

Teddy turned back to Skyle, the smile still planted on his face. He was so glad she hadn't turned up sooner in the year, he had been a wreck, the only help he had, after all, was his two cousins who had recently lost all of their family. The three boys and Teddy's mother were the last people left alive in their huge family and, when he thought about it, it felt slightly depressing that one car and one fire could kill that many people between them.

Teddy didn't let himself think about it though. He was the strongest of his cousins, with Jessi being hit hardest and Alfie trying to block everything out, he couldn't afford to have a break down. "You still at Damiens'?" He wasn't sure if that was their adoptive fathers' name or not but he knew it was close enough to it. He really wanted to know how Angela was but he was too scared to cause something. He knew how sensitive both girls were about the other and he didn't want to offend Skyle. On the other hand, Angela had been through a lot and had seen all of his different faces even, unfortunately, the violent one, and she still liked him.

Skyle could tell be the way Teddy said that things had been going on he had went through some hard times. Sky didn't want to pry but she hoped he would tell her. Even if they weren't "together" she was still concerned with what was going on in his life. She noticed the little girl finish her food and tug on Teddy's leg. She was really cute. Skyle hadn't really liked kids all that much until she found herself taking care of one, but now she loved the little ones.

Teddy said the kids were his siblings and Skyle was sighing inside. She was relieved he hadn't gotten some girl pregnant. Sky smiled at the little girl, Livi. "There really cute." She wondered how old they were. But didn't ask she was more interested in Teddy right now and what he had to say. Her thoughts were going crazy with the possibility of them getting back together.

Finally she came to her senses when he spoke again. He asked if she was still at Damien's. Skyle was glad he had remembered where she was staying. "Yeah were all still at Damien's. He's been really nice, he's home-schooling me. I've almost finished because of the pace we've been going." She smiled she was so glad that she had been able to finish school at home. She had been so upset when she had to leave.

Teddy smiled, Damien was a good guy. He had met him briefly when he was in a friendship mode with Angela. He had been so many different things to Angela it was hard to keep track. "Yeah, they are. Still a handful to raise though." He didn't mind raising them really, it was better than their mother doing.

"How's Kairi doing?" Teddy liked the youngest girl, she was so sweet the last time he saw her. He knew how Angela was protective over her, he didn't know how Skyle was with her. He didn't know much about Skyle really. He had to do some more digging really.

Skyle smiled she knew exactly what Teddy meant. She and Angela had had quite the time raising little Kairi. Sky was just glad she had Angela to help her now. When they had been in foster care she had to do everything. "They really are."

Skyle was surprised when Teddy asked about Kairi, but in a good way. "She's going really well. Her development is right on track. She isn't bad behaved in any way really. Damien says Angela and I are doing great under the circumstances." Skyle and Angela were really to young to take care of a child but fate had other things in mind. They were both matured enough to handle it though, and Skyle wouldn't want anyone else to take care of Kairi.

Teddy grinned and was about to ask about Angela, finally having the courage to speak, when his phone went off. He answered it to hear Jessi's voice. It was time to get back now, the guys, Alfie, wanted their lunch and Teddy was the only one that could cook. He sighed and hung up, Alfie reminded him of himself when he was thirteen. That was when he had broken Angela's ribs with a good couple of kicks to the chest. Something he most definitely wasn't proud of.

"That was my cousin, I gotta get home. Make them lunch and all." Teddy smiled and got Oscar back into his pushchair. "We should meet up again. Later this week?" He really hoped he could see her again. He still really liked her it seemed.

Skyle heard his phone ring. He still had the same ring tone as when they were dating. She waited as he talked and was dismayed when he said he had to leave. It seemed like they had only been talking a couple of minutes. She was really enjoying talking to him again. But than he asked if they could meet up later in the week. She was exploding in side, he wanted to see her again. He had probably just made her whole month. "That sounds great." She smiled she couldn't wait and he hadn't left yet. "My phone numbers still the same. I'm not sure when i'm gonna be on babysitting duty but i'm sure we can figure something out."
