It was the holidays and Jeremiah was surprised that his parents had allowed him to visit any of his friends during the holidays. It was truly a very rare occurrence, but it probably only happened because Dante was having some of his friends over and it would be more convenient to send Miah on his way, rather than risk him embarrassing the family name with company in the house. Dunedin, New Zealand was a rather interesting place. It was covered with muggles, and he wasn't sure why, but they were all staring at him. Did he have something on his face? Or was it the fact that he had a huge trunk with him and his wand was visible, along with his bird? What was he expected to do, not pack all his things? Sure, law said that he was not to use magic, but if he was ever attacked, he would want his wand with him. So the law could stick it. After a few minutes, Jeremiah sighed and stuffed his wand into his robes. Maybe that was the problem. His robes. A smile crossed his face. That was why he was getting strange looks, he wasn't dressed like a muggle. Well, the muggles could stick it too. Jeremiah pulled out a small piece of paper with Ryder's not-so-good handwriting all over it. His blue eyes took a second to focus on the writing because it resembled well fashioned squiggles, but he soon found a house number amongst the mess of letter and started counting the numbers down to his destination.

Jeremiah became confused. The house number of Ryder's house was an even number, but all the houses he passed were odd numbers. Miah's first language was not English, but he knew how to count, and he was sure that the numbers 71, 73, and 75 did not go like that. Where were the even numbers? The boy looked across the busy road and his heart sank a little. He soon realised that the even numbers were on the other side of the road, meaning that he had to cross the street to reach them. Why couldn't Ryder live on the odd side of the road? He sighed slightly and place his foot on the road, but quickly jumped back when a huge car came near him. He bumped into his trunk and hurt his shin. "Perfetto." He muttered, rubbing his shin and looking back to the road. It wasn't that scary, it was just a paved path that allowed huge, dangerous, loud, smelly, muggle vehicles cross it. Nothing too serious. Once again, Jeremiah stepped onto the road and after a few steps, he saw a car and decided to just run across the whole road and get to the other side of the road as quickly as possible. Amazingly, he made it in one piece and he was so grateful. He had honestly seen his life flash before his eyes when he saw more cars coming his way. It was menacing.

Jeremiah read the paper once again. He was close to Ryder's house, the numbers were getting closer to the scribbled number on the paper. He soon found himself to a relatively small house, well, it was small to him. Miah was used to far bigger houses. Leaving his trunk at the bottom of the steps, Miah walked up and knocked on the door. When it was opened, Miah was greeted by a brunette man and a blonde woman. They looked like nice people, but seemed quite confused. They even asked who he was. A frown formed on the young Gryffindor's face, he was under the impression that Ryder had told his parents that he was coming today. He wasn't late, nor was he early, so they should know who he was. "I apologise, I must be at the incorrect house." He stated, his Italian accent slurring his words, making the man and woman seem even more confused. "Good day." He added, going to walk back down the steps.

Ryder was estatic that he got to have someone over for the holidays. He hadn't been allowed to up until now. With his father away in Dublin for work his mum had been super stressed out about keeping the house organised and keep Aailyah under control. But with his father surprising them all by taking a secret flight in the middle of the night to arrive in time to wake them up with presents and chocolate chip pancakes his mother had given in and agreed to let him have someone to stay over. Excited Ryder had scribbled Miah a note saying he could stay with a date and his address on it before sending it off with his owl. Ryder had spent the next couple of days getting the house in order for Miah's stay. Ryder knew he was used to fancy houses so he made sure to polish all the silver stuff with the special polish and put little soaps on all the pillows in the bedrooms. But he was told to stop when Allie began eating them thinking they were sweets. He was told instead to clean his room and make up the other bunk bed with clean sheets for Miah to sleep on, which he happily did.

The day that Miah was supposed to arrive was a rare nice day in Dunedin, the sun was shining brightly and it was warm. Grinning Ryder leapt out of bed and got himself ready. Pulling on his new Man United soccer t shirt Ryder lead his sister out side so she could have a run around, kicking the ball gently to Allie he tried again to explain the rules of soccer to the three year old but he soon realized that she wasn't listening when she went running off after a butter fly her tiny arms waving madly. Turning to his goal he began doing a penalty shootout with himself to fill in time until Miah arrived. It was going ton be nice to have someone his own age around, Ryder loved his sister with all his heart but she wasn't really one for intelligent conversation yet.

Hearing the knocking on the door Ryder stilled his solo soccer game and took Aailyah by the hand, "Miah's here come on" he said to her pulling his baby sister through the house to the front door. When he got there however Ryder noticed something odd; his parents were looking at Miah strangely and he was walking away. Panicking that his friend was going to leave Ryder dropped his sisters hand, "Miah!" he cried pushing rather rudely past his parents to get to his best friend, he would apologize later. Reaching hime Ryder pulled Miah into a tight bone crushing hug, lifting the other boy up slightly and spinning him around as he did so. He was always so happy to see Miah and his attitude never ceased to reflect this. Ryder put his friend back on the ground but didn't let go, instead he kept hugging him, though not quite as vigerously as before. "It's good to see you!" he laughed over the teeny toddler footsteps that he knew were approaching the hug. As he expected Aailyah toddled over to join the hug. Ryder let go of Miah for a second to pick up the red headed three year old so she could throw her arms around Miah too with an excited squeal of what sounded like 'Miiiiiiiia!' laughing happily Ryder pulled Allie's arms from his friends neck and put her down. Grabbing one of the bags sitting at the bottom of the stairs he walked up to his parents who were still looking a bit bemused at this point and smiled at them, "Mum, dad this is Miah, my best friend." he announced indicating to the boy at the bottom of the stairs. Winking at his friends he tipped his head at the direction of the door hinting that Miah should enter the house. "Come on handsome we've got stuff to do!" he said leading Miah indoors with Aailyah hot on their heels.</SIZE>

Jeremiah looked at the paper and frowned. He was positive that he read it correctly, but it was pretty difficult. Deciding to just start again, Miah began ascending the steps, but he paused when he heard someone call his name, well, it was sort of screamed. The scream was familiar though, Ryder. Miah would know that boys scream anywhere, since he had a habit of screaming his name and attempting to break every bone in his fragile body with hugs. He turned around and saw Ryder zooming towards him, moving what Miah presumed to be his parents out of the and continuing on his path towards the young pure-blood. "Oh Ryder, you don't have-" It was too late, Ryder had already pulled him into another bone-crushing hug, and for a second Jeremiah was sure that his ribs had all broken. Miah couldn't help but muse about how strong his bones will be when he's older because of Ryder's hugs. He'd probably end up bludger-proof by the end of the holidays. Something that got Miah slightly worried was when his feet left the ground. One of the main reasons why Jeremiah didn't like Quidditch was the fact that it involved his feet leaving the ground, something he was never comfortable with, so being picked up by Ryder in a hug that was obviously designed to kill people, wasn't exactly his cup of tea.

Ryder eventually put Miah back down on the ground, but they were still hugging and Miah just shook his head and finally managed to get his arms around his best friend to return the hug in proper fashion. He could breathe now. Soon they were met with a young girl, probably just a few years old. It reminded him of Carmine, he was about three now and was remarkably similar to this girl, except for the fact that he had more blonde hair, and was male. Miah smiled slightly at the girl and hugged her back. He was sure they were related. They had to be siblings. Not because of their shared physical traits, but the fact that they both seemed to give strong hugs and were unimaginably giddy. "It is good to see you too, Ryder." Miah replied, watch the young girl totter off towards Ryder's parents. Ryder grabbed one of his bags, and Miah shook his head. "You don't have to do that. I'm capable of carrying everything." He assured, smacking Ryder's hand away softly and pulling the trunk up the steps and picking up the bag Ryder had just picked up. here was no need for Ryder to strain himself on his behalf. Ryder's parents seemed like nice people, though they appeared to be a little befuddled by their sons behaviour. It was second nature to Miah now, he was used to it because around him, Ryder never acted any other way.

Jeremiah nodded towards Ryder's parents. "It is lovely to meet you, Mr and Mrs Straton." He greeted formally, nodding his head towards them and smiling slightly. He was probably overdoing the formalities, but he wanted to make a good impression on Ryder's parents. It was natural for him to want to be in their good books, since Ryder would never be able to go to his home, he might as well make sure that he would always be able to attend Ryder's home for whatever reason. Jeremiah rolled his eyes when Ryder' called him handsome, again. It was a common thing and he had no idea what drove Ryder to compliment his appearance every time they met, but he just took it for face value. Ryder was Ryder and he probably wasn't ever going to change. "What will we be doing, Ryder?" He inquired, looking around the rather clean house. It was quite spotless, except he was sure his mother would find something to complain about it. Thankfully she wasn't here, so it didn't matter. "Do you want me to leave my things here, or take them to where I will be staying?" He added, still admiring the house, and then smiling at his friend nervously. He'd never really been away from home before, and he hoped that he wouldn't get homesick. School didn't really count because it reminded him of home, but Ryder's house was nothing like home. It was like a totally different planet.

Ryder didn't have many friends, mainly because he was such a bubbly person, and there weren't many children that were around his age that they lived near. He could always play with his baby sister, but the age difference made it difficult for them to play. She understood this which was one of the main reasons why she decided that his little friend could come to stay. At first, she thought that 'Miah' was a little girl, their age didn't really make it an issue. But as it turned out, Miah was a boy, a strangely dressed, very polite boy that seemed to make her little Ryder very excited. It was nice to see him so happy. The new school was really opening him up, and it made her smile. "Yes, Miah. It is lovely to meet you as well." She replied, nodding to the young boy and looking at her son sceptically. "Now, young man, if you push your father and I over like that again, Miah will be going home." She whispered, in a warning tone. She wasn't sure how they became friends, since their personalities seemed very different, but she was glad that Ryder found some friends. "You two go have fun, I'll make some lunch." She said, pulling her husband into the kitchen with her.

"What do you think of him?" She asked, thinking about Miah. "He seems like a nice boy, and Ryder seems so happy." She mused, starting to make sandwiches. "Allie, sweetie, come to Mummy!" She called, watching her daughter totter her way into the kitchen. "Now, don't annoy your brother." She whispered, patting her daughter's head.

Lucus had finally gotten time off work, being a pilot in Ireland he hardly ever got the time off to go home and see his family. Though his boss had finally conceeded to the fact as a father and a fiance he actually had to see his family from time to time. It was also the fact that Ryder said he wanted to have a friend over that had compelled Lucus to get the time off in the first place. His son was known for getting rather loud and excitable and he didn't want his wife-to-be to have to handle it all by herself. When he heard that its was going to be girl staying Lucus was both surprised and a little worried. He didn't want to have to have 'the talk' with Ryder quite this early, he was too young for that sort of stuff. But when he opened the door and saw a boy standing there Lucus was in all honesty rather relieved that 'the talk' could wait a year or ten. When he realised that he was still staring at the poor boy, mouth slightly agape he quickly shut it and his manners kicked in, "Uh, yeah. Good to meet you." he said eventually, his Irish accent more present than he had realised, he held out a hand to shake. Once Ryder and Miah had gone into the house Lucus exhaled deeply, it was nice to see that Ryder was making nice friends who had good manners, though he wasn't sure of all the hugging and he could have sworn he heard the word handsome thrown into the conversation.

Being led into the kitchen Lucus went to the fridge and pulled out a small bottle of orange juice and took a swig from it, "He seems fine," he answered, "I just really thought Miah was going to be a girl." he added closing the bottle and sticking it back into the fridge. "Come on Allie let your mum make sandwiches and we can go play tea party at the kitchen table okay?" he asked grabbing Aailyah up in a big bear hug and walked to the table in the adjoining open plan dining room and began setting out plates.
