History

The second child born to Eleanor and Noel Deschamps, Noel Elodie came into the world nearly three weeks late. The parents had already been parents to a son, Alain, but eagerly anticipated the birth of their daughter. With both a son and daughter, the Deschamps felt that they had the perfect French family. The perfection was only meant to last a few weeks though. Before Noel reached her third month of life, tragedy struck the family. While at a sleepover in the home of a close family friend, Alain and three others were killed when a werewolf entered through an open gate and fell upon the sleeping children. The family never recovered from the mourning of their son and before long Noel's father drifted away from the family, not calling or writing to indicate where he'd gone or how long he'd be.

A little over a year later, Noel's mother remarried to an old friend. Mathis Deveaux, from Beauxbatons. The family moved to the United States in order to be able to forge a new history for themselves, free from the pain and sadness. Noel would grow up with Mathis' last name as her own and calling Mathis 'Daddy.' It wasn't until she was nearly eight years old and came upon an old photo album containing pictures of a man and a young boy with the exact same shade of hair and eyes that she learned the story of her brother's tragic death. From then on, Noel would steal away every now and then to gaze at the faces of the two people she'd never have the chance to know. After some time, Noel's mother became pregnant and gave birth to another daughter, Zoe. Zoe was blonde and perfect in every way. She quickly became the apple of her mother's eye as she was much easier for the older French woman to handle than a hormonal pre-teen girl. It was fine with Noel, however, as she preferred her father's company anyway.

When it was time for Noel to begin her magical education, she was accepted and began to attend Salem Institute for Girls. Noel wasn't an extrovert but she was fairly popular with a small group of girls and hated by some of the others. Noel soon learned that she much preferred the company of muggles because she could impress them with her ability to do things that they simply couldn't. Although she kissed the point of crossing the line of the Secrecy statutes, Noel made sure to never show the muggles anything about magic. It didn't matter because they adored her, and Noel enjoyed being adored.

Having fun with the muggles soon became a pastime, especially once she became interested in boys, a supreme rarity at an all-girls school. She would spend her weekends partying with the local muggles and riding around with them in their cars. Fun soon took precedence for the young girl and her grades as what had been solid EEs dropped to As. In the end, she did manage to scrape together 4 NEWTs and an apparation license, though the latter took her three tries. When she left school, Noel's craving for fun grew and she found a new group of muggle friends who were a little more full of reckless abandon.
