Jon had not sent an owl since he was school aged himself, but he was happy to demonstrate how to send one for the sake of helping out the confused first year that appeared in his office earlier that day. He accompanied the young girl up the steps to the high reaches of the Owlery, making small talk on their way. When they arrived, he turned back towards her with a smile on his face. "Alright, so here we are at the Owlery." He said confidently as he squared his shoulders, holding his hands in front of his stomach as he glanced around the room. It was much the same as every other Owlery, with bird droppings in many places and owls themselves perched on various ledges waiting for someone to hand them a treat or a letter to deliver. He looked back towards the girl, stating "It's easy enough to send an owl, you just need a letter with you." as he waited to gauge her reaction to it all. Sending Owls was not as convenient as sending a message using wifi and Jon knew that, but he also knew that owls were customary to the wizarding world and this girl would need to get used to the way things worked no matter how inconvenient and foreign they were.

Tesla followed the professor out of his office to the Owlrey, speaking about nothing in particular to keep things free of any awkward silence or to make it seem like she’d somehow already managed to get herself into trouble. The Hufflepuff didn’t want to get a bad rep already, or ever. As they approached the tower she looked around, admittedly uncomfortable with the entire situation. She frowned to herself as she looked at what must be the least efficient mail system since classic post offices but said nothing. Instead she felt poorly for herself and the owls as she looked at the messy spot and looked over at the desk where they was a quill and parchment left over. While she began to write home she asked, “How long does it take for them to get to Australia? I don’t want the bird getting sick because of me.” She was very concerned for the well-being of the small animal and if it was going to get hurt she would have to wait until holidays to speak with her family because she wasn’t going to risk it.

The girl knowing nothing about how she could contact her family upon her arrival at Hogwarts both disappointed Jon and terrified him on her behalf. He couldn't imagine how scary it must have been for her to arrive to a school, not knowing at all what to expect from it and then learning the only way to contact her family was with essentially carrier pigeons instead of with instant messages via an internet connection. The idea nearly made him shudder so he was glad to help the girl along her way never mind how unexpected her visit was and the book he would otherwise be reading. He stood in one spot as the girl began to write a letter and only opened his mouth to speak once she asked a question. "I've never sent an Owl to Australia, but it probably won't take too long." He said. "The owl should be fine, there are many students from places further away than Australia so I'm sure they've seen worse days." As he finished speaking he began to walk slowly around the Owlery, observing the room and then moving on to look at the view from one of the windows. He was unsure of what else he could do until the girl finished writing her letter.
