Simon had gotten his letter for the school, but he hadn't yet anything about it. He had been expecting it, but that didn't mean he was already getting supplies for the school semester, it seemed just a little bit too early. This was one thing he was alright with not being first for. He wanted the best of course, he wouldn't get anything other than the best for himself, that was all he deserved. The boy was walking down the street, looking in the different stores of obsidian harbour trying to pick the things that he wanted. Making the first half decisions about what things he wanted by just standing in front of the various stores which had what he desired. Simon knew he would have to wait until his mother took him shopping to get most of the items he wanted, but that didn't stop him picking them out and noting which ones he wanted. Sure he needed his mother, but he didn't need her that much. Just for the purchasing powers that she had. As the part veela walked down the street, he noted a boy who seemed close to his age stood in front of the magical pet store, staring in at the creatures in the window. Simon decided he would talk to the guy, it wasn't like he had anything better to do, and if this guy was a new student then he had the chance to make a new friend, and he wanted that a lot, "Owls are the most practical pets, but a cat would be pretty cool," he opened honestly, deciding that was the best way of beginning the conversation with the other guy, hoping that he might either agree or be open to the discussion.

Patrick did not like being alone, especially around a country that was still new to him. He was lost in Obsidian Harbour, frantically looking in every shop window for his father and sister. He didn't know how he ended up separated from them amongst the large group of people bustling around but they were gone and Patrick didn't know what to do. Asking someone for help would be embarrassing and so instead of being so panicked, he tried to act like he knew what he was doing to avoid confrontation. He figured that if he loitered around the shops for long enough his father and sister would eventually appear and so that's what he did. With his hands in his pockets, he looked straight at the ground as he began to walk ahead, making sure he didn't wander too far from the shops. Running hard into a piece of glass, he stopped and felt a throbbing pain in his head. Looking up, he noticed he had just run into one of the shop windows and the owls inside jumped, staring at him with their giant eyes. The boy placed his hand where it had hit, cursing to himself. "Shut up." he muttered to them in French, quite embarrassed at what he had just done. The sound of another voice quickly made him stand up straighter, taking his hand away in hopes that the boy didn't know what had just happened. "Yes, but cats don't fly." he told him in reply, not sure why he said what he did. He really liked cats better but he didn't want the boy thinking he was up to anything. After all, he was supposedly looking at the owls and agreeing that cats were better would be suspicious.

The statement which the boy returned to him, confused Simon a little, one before it was very true, cats did not fly, but he wasn't so concerned about if the creature flew or not, more that cats were just the better creature. He looked at the boy and nodded, "Yeah, that's true," he said a little tentatively, "But cats are better," he replied with a shrug, it was just his opinion, but Simon believed himself to be right, cats were better. Owls were practical, but cats were better, "If you're thinking of getting an owl just because it'll deliver letters, remember there are owls at the school," he was sure this boy would soon be like him, newly sorted. perhaps he didn't come from a magical background and simply didn't know that there would be owls in the school. He clearly knew they were practice but not that because they were practical that there was an abundance of them. Simon cleared his throat, "I'm Simon, are you going to be starting at Hogwarts in September?" he asked with a little hopefulness in his tone, meeting a few people before hand was a good thing, he would need friends at the school, so why not this boy. He seemed alright, there was nothing glaringly wrong.

Patrick didn't know why he seemed so bothered as to cats not being able to fly. He didn't know why he said it and instantly regretted it, especially when the boy began to explain that there were owls in the school. Patrick already knew this as his sister already attended the school but didn't say anything, simply because he was afraid it might start some sort of argument somehow. Instead, he just nodded and continued listening to the boy who had introduced himself as Simon. "Patrick." he replied, his French accent obvious. "September, yes. What about you?" Considering the other boy's hopeful tone, Patrick assumed that asking the same thing back to him was pretty stupid. He was embarrassing himself again and he felt like walking away to avoid getting even more embarrassed, but simply kept his feet planted there, hoping that if the boy was going to attend the school with him, he wouldn't tell anyone of him and how stupid he was.

Simon nodded at the boy's name and noted the accent, "How come you aren't going to beauxbatons?" he asked bluntly, following Patrick answering his question about school. He hadn't really been listening to the boy's accent before but he could definitely hear it now. He could hear the fact that this boy wasn't from New Zealand. not that Simon was either, but he'd spent more time in this country so his accent had become more Kiwi. He wondered why this boy wasn't going to the French school, but rather was travelling this far out. From what he'd gathered from his sister, the school was fairly international but there was no reason not to ask him. Simon was sure it wasn't the most polite way of asking, but he'd never really been particularly polite, he asked when he wanted to regardless of the occasion, "I'll be attending in September, I'm thinking I'll be ravenclaw like my sister," the boy seemed to almost be boasting about this fact, as if it was the best house in hogwarts, "Where do you think you'll end up?" he then added, wondering where this other boy desired to end up. He knew it said a lot about a person's personality but mostly he was just keen to make conversation with this boy who would be in the same school as him when they both got sorted.

It seemed like Patrick being from France was obvious and he pursed his lips at the boy's question, wanting nothing more than to go to Beauxbatons where his father had went and where his sister went until last year. He wasn't sure if he should tell a stranger the truth and tried his best not to give anything away as he spoke. "My step-mother married my father and she said no." he told him with a shrug, wondering if that was a good enough explanation, if one at all. At the boy's next question, Patrick began to panic in his head, not really have familiarised himself with any of the houses. However, he knew what Ravenclaw was. "My sister is Ravenclaw too so maybe I'll get into there if it works like that." Truthfully, Patrick had no idea how it worked. His sister said it was based on people's personality but not every sibling had the same personality and Patrick was no where near as intelligent or creative as his sister was and so he didn't think Ravenclaw was for him anyway. "What are other houses?" Patrick asked, hoping the boy wouldn't tease him for his lack of knowledge.

The boy frowned slightly when Simon said that his step-mother had said no, "Why would she say that?" he asked bluntly very obviously not keen on what she'd said or stopping this boy from going to another school, "I would hate if my mother remarried and the person she married started saying I couldn't do certain things," Simon told him bluntly, not caring if this boy actually like the woman or didn't mine that she was doing that, "Well, at the very least you'll be at school with me, and it's the best school," the boy boasted both about the school and himself. He knew or felt like if he was going to hogawarts it had to be the best school, so of course it was true. He smiled at the boy, "Wow, maybe our siblings know each other, my sister's in third year," Simon told Patrick wondering if they did know each other, "And you don't get in based upon siblings but siblings tend to be alike to it's possible to end up in the same house," Simon said, almost showing off what he knew about hogwarts to this boy who didn't seem to know much about it, "There's ravenclaw that you know, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin," Simon told him, happy to give him all this knowledge that he knew already, "Gryffindors are brave, hufflepuffs are hard working, ravenclaws are smart and Slytherin's are supposedly the sort of people who will do anything to achieve their goals,"

Patrick was glad that someone understood his reason for not really liking his step-mother. She didn't really let him or Isabelle do much of what they wanted to, especially Patrick considering he was the youngest, and her daughter Ana always managed to get what she wanted which the young boy found extremely unfair. "It okay because father let us do other things." Patrick told him, hoping his English was enough for him to understand. Patrick nodded when Simon stated that Hogwarts New Zealand was the best school. If it was anything like Beauxbatons then Patrick didn't doubt that for one second. "My... my sister in sixth year so maybe they do not know." he said. He listened as Simon told him each of the houses and their values. It kind of made him wonder what was more to it. After all, what if someone was none of those traits, which was entirely possible? Patrck didn't consider himself brave, smart, or hardworking, and he would definitely not do anything to achieve his goals. "Do they... kick you out if... if you are none?" Patrick hoped Simon didn't think he was scared about it. On the bright side, if Patrick did get kicked out, then he could just go to Beauxbatons.

Simon still didn't like it, even if their father let them do other things, it just didn't seem right,"I don't like it," he told the other boy as much. Shaking his head but letting the subject go for now, at least until if the other boy brought it or something to do with it up. There was no way he'd let someone tell his new friend what he couldn't do if that was what he wanted. That just did not make any sense to him at all! He shook his head at her, "My sister's a third year, so no," he admitted, it would've been cool but it was not to be. However, it didn't really matter, he didn't much care about if they were or weren't friends. It was just if they were. If they were friends. He wanted another friend before school. His old friends from his school and muggle area wouldn't be at hogwarts with him. At the question he laughed and shook his head, "Nope, of course not, they'll keep going until they find a place for you," he assured him with a friendly tone despite the earlier laughter. He was more than certain that this boy would find a house, and he was hopeful it might be a house with him.
