Kaede had been lurking around the school all day. She hadn't had anything to do, and she didn't feel like going outside. It was sunny out, but she had been outside all week, and her cheeks and brim of her nose had started to turn a pink red from the hours spent out in the sun. Deciding that it was time to look around the castle, she had set off. Not having any special occasion today, she decided that she would just wear what had been lying on her trunk that day.
She had been wandering around the school and came upon a stairwell. Never having been up there before, she ventured up there. Not wanting to take to long, she started up the stairs at a jog. Her hair bounced with each step she took. Her boots weren't the best for jogging up stairs, but she did it anyways.
Finally reaching the top, she took deep breaths. It turned out that there had been more steps than she had anticipated. She put her hands on her knees and caught her breath. She hadn't jogged since her last track practice, which had been over a year ago. Straightening her back, she stretched her arms up high and walked over to the window. Putting her hands on the edge, she stood up on her tiptoes and leaned out a bit. Gasping she flew back and backed up against the wall next to the window. The wind blew her hair around her, covering and uncovering her face like a cape in the wind. Her heavy breaths began to come back. Having a minor fear of heights, she rarely went to places so high up. She liked the view that the high places showed, but they still scared her a bit.
I guess this is what comes of letting your mind wander, she thought to herself and she stayed in her position against the wall.
