Sitting in her favorite chair, the professor curled up with a book. It was one that she'd received last Christmas and she was just getting around to it. Glancing up as a student passed her open door, Cyndi smiled and nodded to the Gryffindors. The woman looked back down at her book, surprised that she'd gotten so far in such a short time. Placing her bookmark into her book, the woman stood up and headed to her desk for a blank piece of parchment. Already a week had passed and it was high time that she sent her husband son another note. She missed them and couldn't wait until the weekend so she could head home. The woman typically spent a couple of nights a week at home, but during the first weeks of the school year, it was difficult to do so.

It wasn't until the next morning that she was able to mail the letter out, but she smiled as she sent it off with the old owl that she'd gotten as a gift from an old friend. She figured that he would receive it some time before lunch and hoped it would bring a calm and peaceful moment to what she knew was likely a busy and stressful day for her husband.
Hey Babe,

I'm counting down the days until the weekend so I can finally get home to you and Noah. I miss you both terribly each and every day, and I wish there was some way I could sneak you both in for a couple of hours. Every time I try to sneak away, there's a new dilemma or student to comfort. The first years are slowly starting to settle into the routine of being away from home though.

Are you making sure to eat and not stay at work too late? I hope so. I need you to be in one piece and well rested when I get home. ;)

Give a kiss to Noah from me. Maybe we can take him to the park this weekend?

xoxo,

Mrs. Kingsley

Cameron was once again working through lunch. It was a bad habit that he gotten into lately so that he could go home a little bit earlier in the afternoons. He often still had to work late, but with Cyndi at the school he tried to make it up to Noah by picking him up early from the daycare when Cam could manage it. He felt guilty that Noah was without his parents so frequently.

Cameron turned his head at the rustling of feathers. He saw his wife's owl, delivering a note that he assumed was from Cyndi. The man untied the string holding the letter to the owl's leg and offered the bird a treat. He opened the letter, chuckling as he read it. She knew him too well as she closed her letter with a reminder to eat. He took a moment to pen a letter back to Cyndi. Cam sent it with her owl, hoping it would get to her soon.
Hello love,

I cannot wait to have you back in my arms in our house. I wish the days between weekends were not so long. I hope that the first years are not driving you up the wall. That Stratis kid isn't causing you anymore problems is he? I'll come down there and have a talk with him.

I promise I will be well nourished even though I'm working through lunch everyday so that I can pick up Noah earlier in the afternoons. I'm looking forward to seeing you in a few days.

I think taking Noah to the park is a wonderful idea. I've been thinking about getting him a pet for his next birthday. Maybe a dog? How do you feel about that?

With all my love,
Cameron

Cyndi was grateful for the quick passage of the months. She spent as much time as she could returning home to her two favorite boys, but it was never quite enough. The professor often wondered how much longer she could keep this up. Her husband and her son seemed to have adjusted to their version of ‘normal’ but Cyndi often wondered what life would be like if she was able to be home more often, able to keep her son home with her or pick him up from daycare with more regularity. The professor knew that such a life might seem great for a while, but her need to have a career would likely rear its head after only a few months of not working.

Feeding her owl a treat for the road, Cyndi gently attached the note. Her owl was getting up there in years and certainly took a little longer to deliver her mail than it had even a year ago. Cyndi knew that the owl wouldn’t be content to not be used though. It became quite cranky and would nip whoever came near it if it wasn’t sent out. Watching the owl slowly spread its wings and take off into the air, Cyndi thought about what her husband and son might be doing at this very moment.
Cam,
I just checked my schedule and I will be able to head home this weekend. Do you still want to take Noah to the pet shop so he can see the puppies? I can’t wait to see his face when he wakes up on his birthday and sees a puppy on his bed!

Before I forget, my mother invited us to come down to England to spend Christmas. Do you want to go? We could make a grand outing out of it and visit Kiera, James and the twins. Noah would like that. And, I can speak to Kat and see if we can visit her as well. I haven’t had the chance to see the baby yet. Think about it and let me know.

Give Noah a kiss from me. You can have one too.

Love,

Cyndi
