[adminapproval=11329234] Emily stood in the doorway of the Owlery as she looked at the letter in her hand. She didn't know if she should send it but she really needed some guidance. She supposed it wouldn't hurt to just try and see and if she didn't get a response than that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing but she wanted to know for sure first, though she hadn't much spoken to Carlotta, she hoped that this would not be an invasion of privacy on her part. She smiled at the owl and sent it away with the promise of treats. She didn't really know when to expect a reply, but she sure hoped it would be soon.

Dear Carlotta,

I'm not so good at writing letters. Mum tried to show me once, but I was a bad student. I know we don't talk much and I hope you're having fun with your family in... Russia? It was nice to see you at the wedding. Ciro appreciated having you there. I've never had a sister before and even though Iz is close to my age... it doesn't feel the same.

I'm not even sure why I wrote to you, its nearing the end of term after all and the seniors will be graduating soon. I think I miss you, but we don't know each other much, so I'm not sure. I tried speaking to Nate like you suggested, but it didn't go down well. I hope you have more luck than me. Sorry for being weird though.

Dear Emily,

Yes, I'm currently in Russia - Kirishi, to be exact. It's a lovely place, but much colder than back home. I miss Italy, but I just have to remember I'm returning in a couple of months, and I miss you! I'm really looking forward to seeing you. I got you many things and I think you'll like them. This beautiful porcelain doll, lots of beautiful scarves and hair decorations, and a very handsome quill! I really think like them. I look forward to seeing you, I really do.

And weird? Never! I hope you're doing okay at school - I've never really been in a formal education situation, so I really don't know what it's like at all, but I think as long as you keep your chin up, you will succeed in whatever you put your heart in to. If Nate doesn't want to talk to you, perhaps it's just not the right time. Everything has its place, and everything has a purpose, you just have to wait a little bit in order to figure it all out. Don't stress yourself out, Emily, you will be fine.

Emily had been waiting for the right time to send another letter. A time when she was free from classes and was able to set aside a couple of minutes to answer her step sister. She was glad that Lotta didn't seem to think she was a pest, but she was always so nervous around the girl. After all, she was Ciro's real daughter and all Emily got was the promise of being treated the same way. She didn't share the man's name at all, though she understood the purpose of that. Still, now that she had some spare time before class, Emily quickly wrote out a reply and made her way up to the Owlery to send it off. She appreciated Lotta being nice to her, though she felt like she saw Ciro more now than her sister did.

I hope you are enjoying being in Russia, I'm sure it's cold being so far north. I'm not really used to the cold, I don't like it much. I miss you too! I'm glad you said that because I was afraid maybe I'd bugged you to much. I'm glad not. I want to see all of the things! You have to send me photos, because I love to see your newest collections. Did you hear about what happened last term? Just before Christmas? I haven't told Ciro yet and I don't want you to tell him either, he'd pull me out of the school for sure and I don't want to leave. A boy got burned, my friend. He was burned for being a muggleborn, I cried so much. It was awful. It's sort of okay now though, I think he's doing better. He has us to help him.

The school it self is still talking about it, though that might be just me. I got into a fight about it with a fellow Hufflepuff, which Im not proud of but she was saying awful things about Logan. I had to help. Arturo had to intervene, so its okay now. I suppose you're right about Nate, I'll definitely try, I appreciate the help. I'll try and relax a little, I do get a little worked up sometimes don't I?

Dearest Emily,

I'm deeply disturbed that happen to your friend, Emily. I'm so sorry - things here are a little along the same lines, I think. The school closest doesn't admit muggle-borns. Some argue that it's for their own safety, some argue it's for the safety of our culture, I just think people don't like what they don't understand. There will always be people that think they are better than others, just as there are people that think they are worth less than others. It's just a part of life and we all have our set roles to play. Just remember that it's always better to be respectful of someone's origins, and don't let others lead you into believing that they have more of a say over your destiny. If you want to stay, I won't tell Papà, I promise. You give your friend some strength, but take care of yourself. I know exactly how coddly you get. Just try to remember that I greatly enjoy your letters.

How serious was this fight? I hope you'll try and be a little more careful, don't go getting into fights. Send Zio Arturo my love, and tell him not to get into any fights, as well. Sometimes I wish I was there with you, but the best I can do is maybe visit you during one of those weekend visits you have. I think I could manage that! I'll be back in Italy in the next couple of months, maybe. I can have a little look at my schedule and see what can be done. I'm getting rather excited just thinking about it!

Emily made her way back to the Owlery again. She and Carlotta had a routine now and she wasn't about to break it. She smiled down at the letter as she handed it over to an owl and fed it some treats as it went into flight.

Lotta,

I hope this letter finds you well. I just wanted to say thanks again for coming to see me, I was so surprised and especially thank you for that Kiwi. It's adorable. I think I almost have it trained to come when called now. He is doing very well, though I do get some strange looks from my room mates when I call for Dove and a Kiwi appears. I'm happy that I'll be able to see you soon, so much has been happening at the school lately, I just don't know which way to turn anymore. I'm sure something else is going to happen and I don't like the feeling I get whenever I see Logan. I think something is wrong with him, I never see him sleep anymore, I mean I know where not in the same house, but I know what exhaustion looks like. Nico hasn't said anything but I'm sure he's worried too. I do wish you were here with me Carlotta, you'd help me a lot.

Arturo is fine now. At least I think he is. You know what he's like. He didn't appreciate me telling him not to get into any more fights though. I kind of think he regrets not letting me get my head basked in. Forget I said that. I'm sure he is happy that he could save me. He wouldn't have done so if he did't want to, right? I'll see you soon.

Emily stared down at the letter she was writing to her best friend and sister. She'd been trying to write this letter for hours but nothing that she wrote was good enough. She didn't know what to say to her, but she knew she wanted to say something. She tapped the quill against her cheek and thought about how to start this. She would be giving it to Ciro later to send, so she had to write it soon or it wouldn't make it to Carlotta until later and she wanted her to get the letter as soon as possible.

I'm really sorry I just suddenly left you at Christmas and didn't get the chance to see you off again. Can you say hello to Nico for me? I hope you're doing well with your studies, and that you're doing well in Hufflepuff. I miss everyone, and hope they're okay.
