A Little Deeper
Personality:
Intelligent - All of Ness's friends and even her acquaintances can testify to the fact that Ness is-or at least seems like-a naturally bright young lady. Whether she uses all her knowledge and abilities to their full extent is questionable, but it's all there. Sometimes Ness takes the initiative to educate herself and other times she just seems plain lazy but she will never hesitate to question things and borrow a book to find what she needs. In fact, Ness keeps a small notebook of random information that intrigues her; not that she needs to though, since her memory is, according to some, nearly photographic, though that may be an exaggeration.

Aloof - A good number of Ness's days are spent in reverie, meditation, and whatever other fantastical land she can dream up with that strange mind of hers. The girl always has a faraway, distant look in her eyes, as if her mind is not completely there in the present. One might say that everything she hears goes in one ear and out the other although it's more along the lines of her never bothering to apply what she hears. Ness appears to be oblivious to everything around her, including social cues, which makes her seem awkward to most. Talking to a wall might just be a better idea than talking to Ness is, since she'll likely come up with some nonsensical response. Her intelligence doesn't come in handy in practical situations when she's usually off in her own little world.

Laid-back - Ness is very much one of those people that live in the moment and worry only about what's immediately ahead; actually, she doesn't even worry much at all. She prefers to just “go with the flow” of life, let things happen, and deal with them-or not deal with them-as they come along her way. Some may call it lazy or lassez-faire but Ness likes to think of her style as efficient: why waste time and energy on an issue that's not even existent or worth the trouble? Admittedly, half the time, the girl doesn't even notice the problems around her or take the proper social cues but she still likes to keep her options open and remain fairly optimistic. She's really more concerned with what makes her happy than what will matter in the long run.

Mellow - Having grown up in a rather proper and affluent family, Ness has taken after her well-mannered albeit quirky parents. She is very much a pacifist and would probably balk and then shake at the thought of having to physically fight anyone. Ironically, she's never had a problem with animals; in fact, dissections were her favorite part of any science class, but Ness insists that that's a whole different issue. While she's not necessarily polite, Ness certainly tries to avoid arguments and making enemies to the best of her ability, which is slightly compromised due to her awkwardness and unintentional bluntness. But at the end of the day, this girl would rather take a few hits and end the issue than have to dole them out.

Eccentric - Ness comes from an eccentric family, but she's more so than the rest of her ancestors. The young lady has a peculiar taste for nearly everything, from clothes to food and even furniture. She's curious and open-minded when it comes to trying new things, and while she has a good eye for art considering she once wanted to be a comic artist or painter, that doesn't quite apply to her sense of fashion or anything else for that matter. Ness will go for whatever interests her, which at times happens to be the weirdest things you've ever seen although she gets lucky at times and picks something decent. She tends to ignore the general trend or culture and do what she wants in her own ways.

History: Ness was born in Ithaca, the suburbs of New York. Her father is a professor, and travels all around the world to do research. Her mother doesn't work. At an early age, Ness's family moved to London, England, where they established a permanent residence. London is still Ness's favorite place. She loves the drizzles, the damp and cool weather, the smell of cobblestone streets. She's been nearly everywhere though.

Ness always believed that she was, well, magical, although her parents never took her seriously. Imagine their surprise when her letter came. Now she's off to Hogwarts, but her parents support her fully. They're still a bit dazed about it all, but they can't talk her out of it: Ness's mind is set.
