Mark was walking through brigstone because he had just been shopping but he diddnt really get much, mainly a couple of sweets and a drink. It was quite a cold day and Mark was wearing his faveourite black coat that he often wore when it was cold because it was warm, and it looked cool. As Mark had been walking for a while he decided to sit down. He came across a bench but someone was already sat there. Not one to be shy, Mark went over t the bench. "Excuse me. Do you mind if i sit down?"

Shaylah looked up fom her notebook and had to grab her guitar quickly before it slipped off her lap. She was writing a song because she had nothing else to do and hadn't written one in a while. She was thiking about playing it for her dad when she got back home. "Why would I mind?? It's not like I own the bench." She had never been the most polite person around so didn't usually notice when someone was being polite to her.

Mark was slight off balance with her reply but sat next to her anyway. The bench was cold, it came through his trousers and even his coat, Mark shivered then looked over at the girl that he was now sat next to. She was writing something, it looked like a song or something. "Are you writing a song?" Mark was a little nervouse of her response and to be honest he was a little scared, but he would never admit it.

"Yeah. I used to do it loads bu since I started at Hogwarts I've been doing other stuff." She smiled up at the boy-well...the closest to a smile that she could get with a complete stranger. "I came to Brightstone to get away from all my mates and sit down and compose." Shay loved all her mates but it was impossible to compose aying whe they wee around.

Mark quickly smiled back at her, then he offered her a liquorish sweet that he had bought. "Well anyone who can right songs has talent, thats what i think. So what year are you in then." He looked at her and then look at her and decided to intriduce himself. "Im mark by the way, Mark Stone."

Shaylah shook her head. "No thanks. I don't like them. "Not really." She shrugged. "My dad go me into music when I was three. His mum taught him basic music then the rest he learnt from books that he bought or borowed from the library." Shay had always admired her dad's love for music and it had inspired her to get to where she was. "I' a first yer Slytherin." She always said it with pride. She was so gla to get into the same house as Jay. "I'm Shaylah Rouge."

Again Mark was suprised, how could she not like liquorish? He smiled again. "Well i like slytherin but when i start school i want to go into ravenclaw, but i will just have to wait and see." Mark started to thein about what it would be like once he started school, he couldnt wait. He wanted to lean all of the spells that he could and he wanted to be great just like his two cousins, Blake and Riley, they were good at every thing Exept poitions and he couldnt remember what blake wasnt too good at, but that diddnt matter, blake was annoying and doesnt even have a girl friend because he was sad. Mark just started to laugh out loud all of a sudden then realised that it might look a little odd to shaylah, so he stopped then he went bright red. "Sorry." That was all he managed to choke out.

"One of my best friends is a Ravenclaw. She wants to be in Slytherin though. She had no idea what the houses meant when she started at Hogwarts so she didn't care where she went and ended up getting put in Ravenclaw. When she found out she was so annoyed."Shaylah handed her notebook to him. "What do you think of the lyrics so far. It's not finished but still." Then she looked at him seriously. "Be honest though. I hate it when people say something is good when it's really bad."

Mark took the note note book then chuckled slightly at her serious face and began to read them. He was suprised once he had finished reading it. It was good, it diddnt sound like his type of music but he diddnt know what the beat was going to be so he diddnt want to judge too early. " Yeah it sounds good. Do you what beat your going to do when your singing it?" Mark handed her the notebook back then smiled at her.

"Not yet." She grinned. "I was always taught to create the lyrics first then compose and if needed edit them." Shay's music tutor was one of the only ones she ever payed attention to.

(Soz lame)

"I'm ok I suppose." She looked down at her guitar remembering the birthday that her dad gave it to her. "Music kinda runs in the family. Most of my ancestors were musical." Jay's parent were musical and so were their parents and their's etcetra.

"I dont know what runs in our family, but its probably the good looks." Mark laughed then continued. "You should sing it so that i can tell you properly what i think about it." Mark looked hopefully at her and waited to see if she would sing it.

Shay laughed. "You wish." She joked. "If I did it would be improvised and that's something I can't do. No matter how much I try, I always have to write it down before I actually play it."

Mark laughed with her. " Yeah i suppose." Mark wasnt too sure on what to say next so he took a bite of his sweet then said the first thing that came to mind. "So do you like school or is i rubbish?" He instantly kicked himself fo asking that, what kind of question was that anyway. DUH.

"I love it." Shay grinned. "I've spent my whole life looking forward to Hogwarts. I hate school but I love being able to learn spells all the time." Her favourite subject was Defense Against the Dark Arts because she loved being able to use the spells all the time.

"I can do spells and ptions but I cannot do divination or history of magic." Shaylah thought about how much she hated those lessons. "I've never been into rading and that's what those subjects seem to require.

"Hmmm i would have thought that you do like to read because you could read other lyics from other songs and that would give you idea's" Mark loved reading and doing spells, his cousins always show him how to do them and they show him what spells to do if somone is bullying him. Mark looked away from shaylah and looked strait on, There was frost on most of the plants and you could see your breath in front of your face. "Are you not cold?"

"No." She thought about what Mark had said. It made sense but she had never been able to get into books. "I get my lyrics from my surroundings." She always tried to get to different areas so she had different inspiration for lyrics.
Shay laughed at Mark when he asked if she was cold. She was after all wearing three quarter lengths and a hoody. "Nah. I've grown up in Scotland. I've sat in colder weather than this." She grinned.

Shaylah shrugged. "Scotland didn't really work out for me and my dad so when I got a letter from Hogwarts, we grabbed the opportunity and moved to New Zealand. He transferred to the ministry here from the one in London. I love it here. In Scotland I had one friend and she lived in Bulgaria. We never saw each other much so in a way I had no one except dad who was always on business trips. I've learnt how to live on my own now though so it suits me fine." She gave a fake smile as she rememberd her previous life.

Marks eye brows knitted together. "No affence but that sounds a bit rubbish if you ask me. I mean i dont have many freind apart from my cousins and a few other people but im fine with that, im not much of a people person anyway." Mark weakly smiled trying to get rid of her fake smile that wasnt well hidden.

Shaylah grinned. "That's why we moved here. I've got loads of friends now. I think the problem there was that I don't like muggles and there weren't any wizards there except me and dad." Jay had tried so hard to stop Shaylah from turning out the way he had but he had failed. She was exactly like him in most things she did.

Mark listened to what she said but he stayed quiet and just looked at her. He took a deep breath then looked away. "My mum was a muggle so i donr really mind them but i never really knew her i think its just out of repect i suppose." He looked down at the floor, he diddnt like to talk about his mum even though he acted strong about her, he never is like that. All he wants is a mum but that will never happen
