[FULL NAME] Margo Louise Ellis
[NAME ETYMOLOGY] The meaning of the name Margo is: "Pearl; Variation: Margot; Derivative: Form of Margaret". The meaning of the name Louise is: Feminine form of Louis: Famous warrior. Renowned fighter. Elis (from the Greek Elias and the biblical Elijah) was a popular medieval name, having been adopted by some early saints. It became in Old English Elys or Elis and then Ellis. In Wales this surname seems to have absorbed forms derived from the Welsh personal name Elisedd, meaning one who is kindly and benevolent.
[NAME RATIONALE] Margo's parents favour old fashioned names, and tend to choose them over their more modern counterparts. She was almost called Margaret, Mabel, or Charlotte, but it was eventually decided that Margo sounded best alongside the surname Ellis.
[NICKNAMES] Margo being a short name as is, she has no nicknames derived from it. Her father affectionately nicknames her 'duckie', making gentle fun of her bright yellow hair. At school she is often nicknamed: Medusa, Pansy, Drone, Corkscrew, Smurfette, and Witch (when bizarre things happen around her).

[INGENUOUS] Really a polite way to say gullible and naive. Margo tends to take people at face value, rarely considering what else else may lie beneath their surface. Her readiness to trust makes her an easy girl to befriend, but also an easy one to manipulate.
[LOYAL] Margo is incredibly loyal to her friends - in fact, her most courageous moments are usually those in which she is acting in order to aid a friend. Similarly, she is much more likely to take risks and put herself in situations that scare her when she is with her friends, as she believes they will keep her safe. However, whilst she will tolerate a certain degree of disrespect or rudeness, her loyalty extends only as far as cheating, betrayal, and downright malice, at which point she will no longer wish to be associated with said person (with the exception of cheating; she would first attempt to reason with the person, and, failing that, would emotionally distance herself without cutting ties).
[INHIBITED] Alone in the privacy of her bedroom, Margo is as wild and carefree as any other young girl. She'll dance, 'party', sing, and generally lose her inhibitions. However, in the company of others she can often turn reserved and repressed, a result of a very quiet, studious upbringing and many years of teasing from her peers. This may well be a trait she grows out of in time, especially if she makes some close friends to bring her out of her shell.
[BENEVOLENT] Margo means well. She'd never intentionally hurt someone, to the point where she often seems to be a pushover for all she'll do to keep people happy. She's soft at heart, and though not afraid of unintentionally upsetting people, would be very unlikely to do so anyway as she scarcely harbours a malicious thought. She's much more likely to feel sad about things than she is spiteful or bitter.
[DARING] Though Margo is fairly reserved, she's not afraid to take risks once in a while, especially for the sake of fun or in order to help out a friend. However, she is rarely ever bold or daring by herself, since she feels a punishment divided between several people is much easier to take than one directed entirely at her.

[INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT?] Margo doesn't particularly classify as either an introvert or an extrovert, since she thrives both on alone time and time spent in the company of friends. Both situations energise her, and she will seek each of them out depending on how she feels at the time. Generally, however, she is a shy extrovert.
[ORGANISED OR CLUTTERED?] If Margo doesn't keep her possessions/work/tasks organised, she gets quite stressed out. Organisation is a must in her life, to the point that she even dislikes other people's clutter, and will offer to sort it out for them.
[OPTIMIST OR PESSIMIST?] Margo really sits on the fence here. As she takes things at face value, she tends to see a situation or person exactly how it is, rather than thinking it could be better or worse in some way. It doesn't matter if the glass is half empty or half full; it's what's in it that matters.
[NEAT OR SLOBBY?] Neat. Having been brought up in a very cleanly, tidy household, Margo would feel quite uncomfortable around someone who did not care for their hygiene or manners. Litter exasperates her, and she can't understand why anybody would be OK to drop rubbish wherever they please. However, she is NOT against mud, getting dirty, sports, or hard, laborious work, which fall into a different realm in her mind - one of fun.
[WORK OR PLAY?] A good balance of both (would fun be fun if there was no work?). Still, she prefers play.
[EMOTION OR LOGIC?] Margo makes most of her decisions based on her emotions, rather than logic, and will more often act impulsively than having thought things carefully through.
[POISED OR FLUSTERED?] Poised - Margo doesn't get worked up about much, and will scarcely throw herself into conflict. She also has a habit of bottling up anger, on the odd occasion that it rises within her, since expressing frustration in the past has evoked teasing from her elder sisters.
[ENERGETIC OR CALM?] Margo's energy comes along in bursts, usually when she's having fun with her friends or playing sports. She also expresses her excitement in a more reserved manner than somebody more bold might: she's more likely to get the giggles or state her excitement than to physically exhibit it.
[SENSITIVE OR HONEST?] Margo is more likely to lie harmlessly to spare the feelings of a friend than to tell them the honest truth and risk hurting their feelings. The exception to this would be if the person might humiliate themselves by Margo not telling them the truth, in which case she would let them down as gently and delicately as possible.
[CAUTIOUS OR RECKLESS?] Margo's approach to life tends to lean on the cautious side. However, once again she is completely capable of being reckless, so long as she's in the right company.
[POSSESSIONS OR RELATIONSHIPS?] Relationships, unquestionably.
[SECRETIVE OR OPEN?] Open and trusting with close friends, but quite secretive with her family, who she fears will think her troubles silly or tease her for it (whilst they would never mean real harm, she is overly sensitive to being teased).
[GREATEST SHORT TERM DESIRE] Margo cannot wait to finish primary school and move onto secondary school, where she hopes to make a fresh start for herself. There are only thirty people in her class presently, most of whom only know her as the ditzy, blonde pushover some of the more vindictive children label her as. She hopes that meeting new students, whose views of her will be unbiased, will present itself an opportunity to make some friends.
[BIGGEST SHORT TERM FEAR] That she will do terribly in her end of year tests and as a result be placed in all the lowest classes in her secondary school. This is tied with the fear that her above hopes will turn out to be false.
[GREATEST LONG TERM DESIRE] Margo's long term desire, being a child, is acceptance. She hasn't yet decided what it is she'd like to do with her life, but she isn't so concerned about this as she is choosing something that makes her happy and allows her to express herself without inhibition.
[BIGGEST LONG TERM FEAR] Disappointing her family. It's unlikely she ever would (her parents wouldn't mind in the slightest if she became a waitress for the rest of her life, so long as she was happy), but she holds unfair expectation to herself on account of the fact she wishes she were as smart and beautiful as her sisters.
[OTHER DESIRES] To cut/dye/style her hair, to grow up, to be great at something, to impress, to get a pet, to have many great and fun adventures.
[OTHER FEARS] Being bullied, deep water, clowns, nightmares, getting told off, her parents divorcing or family death, accidentally hurting somebody with one of her unexplained magical outbursts, hospitals, getting stung by a jellyfish.
[DEEPEST SECRET] Margo once tricked a vending machine into dispensing a snack for her with a coin-shaped object. It only occurred to her after she did it a second time that this was stealing, and she'll live forever with the guilt.
[PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT] Beating her entire class in a chess championship.
[BIGGEST REGRET] Not standing up to her bullies (which she continues to not do, despite knowing she'll continue to regret it).
[MOST COMFORTABLE WHEN?] Hanging out with friends, solving mathematical problems, reading.
[MOST UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN?] Put on the spot, standing in front of large crowds.
[PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY] Unsure.
[GREATEST SELF PERCEIVED STRENGTH] Her benevolence.
[GREATEST SELF PERCEIVED FLAW] Her absent-mindedness.

Sorting Post said:
Eight weeks was a relatively long time. It was not, however, long enough for Margo to process the largest and most extraordinary piece of news she had ever been given: she was a witch.

At first, she hadn't believed the letter. Some twisted hoax, she decided, played on her by a school bully. She had just mentally pinned the blame on Aisling when her grandfather had come bursting into the house, breathless and looking as if he'd just won the lottery. It was he who explained that, long ago, before he had met Grandma, he had raised a son who had also been of magical blood, and thus he was elated to hear that the gene had made itself known again in Margo.

Still she could not quite come to terms with the revelation. If it were true - and she prayed desperately that it was - her life was about to change forever. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry sounded a heck of a lot cooler than St John's, but it was also a heck of a lot further away. 11,617 miles further, to be precise. It was odd, her grandfather said, that she was being invited to New Zealand's wizarding school when there was a perfectly good one in Scotland, but then again, they had been seriously considering moving over there anyway, and magic was a clever and often unexplainable thing. Besides, it wasn't as if Margo had anything to leave behind. She would miss her family, no question, but she would see them during the holidays, and letter writing by owl post sounded like brilliant fun.

So off Margo went, escorted to New Zealand by her grandfather, who knew most about the wizarding world and knew the most about its ways. Not everything, mind, and Margo found that for every question he could answer, she had dozens he could not. By the time she boarded the train in Obsidian Harbour and waved her grandfather goodbye, she was nearly too excited to mind that she had no idea where she was going. A very long journey later the train came to a slow, and Margo peered out of the window, hoping to catch her first glimpse of the castle her grandfather had told her of. And there it was, windows bristled with light, turrets and towers twisting majestically toward the night sky. Even in darkness, it was ten times more beautiful than she had imagined.

The children were led up the countryside and to the castle doors by foot. Inside they were herded into a grand hall, the ceiling of which seemed to rise up into infinity. Margo's jaw went slack as she craned to look at it, and at the floating candles, and at the students all dressed in robes and sat at long benches the length of the entire room. And to think that all of this had existed without her even knowing! When an old hat began to sing, she didn't even look particularly surprised. It seemed that just about anything was possible in this place. Her name was called, and on shaky legs she carried herself up to the stool and sat down. She hardly knew anything of the four school houses, and though one or two seemed favourable over the others, she entirely trusted the hat to place her where she belonged. It was magical, wasn't it? It couldn't possibly be wrong.
"Ravenclaw!"
[SORTING REACTION] Margo knew little more of the four houses at Hogwarts than what the sorting hat sang to the students upon their arrival. Her preference, judging solely by the verses of the song, had been Hufflepuff; however, she was perfectly happy to have been placed in Ravenclaw (even if she didn't consider herself particularly wise).
