Bess brushed her apron down tiredly as she scrubbed her wet hands with a checkered tea towel. Life came down to checkers and frills in Madam Puddifoot's teashop. The minuscule, adorable and often garish cafe was an extension from the original Puddifoot's in the famous Hogsmeade village. The branches were spread all over the world by now, and it just so happened that Bess had spent the last five years after Hogwarts making coffee and little levitating cupcakes for the patrons of the store, most of which happened to be little old ladies, little old doggies with ladies attached to them and little couples from Hogwarts who thought that dating in a teashop was the height of fashion. This was not exactly what she'd imagined herself to be after she'd left: Bess entertained the notion of studying magical medicinal botany, traveling all over the South and then to her home country of England. Leaning against the doorpost, she entertained the notion a while longer by picturing herself in dirty denim overalls with a quick quotes quill in tow, pointing out various mushrooms and recording their usefulness or otherwise. Like a true Yearling, medicine was the highest priority in all senses of the word, however the Blackmoore calling of making food had taken her down the indecisive path of waitress-hood. This was not what witches like Bess ought to be doing, but what did she know. All she wanted was a nice husband to provide many little babies to, a veggie patch out the back and perhaps a pet dragon.
"Bessie!"
She jumped.
"It's your tea break now, why don't you stop clutching that towel?" said Poppy her fellow waitress, taking the checkered towel from her hands and smiling at her. Bess returned the smile after an embarrassed moment and took a little skip out of the back gate and onto the stony circuit, right into ... Leo. The last person she'd ever expect to be standing outside Madam Puddifoot's. Of course he'd been passing on the way, but it was Bess that had brought him to a standstill since she had skipped right into his arms. Laughing, she stepped back. "Well, hallo there, friend!" said the jolly, small women in the pink dotted dress. "Fancy seeing you here."
