By a request from Liberty, I have decided to put up a tutorial on how to make linked banners. Though I do only work with GIMP, and this might not work with some programs. To start off with, I have made a sample blend (I will use this banner in the future). It looks like this:
4g0nlz.jpg

Now, to split the image into five separate images. This could work with one link, or with five.
***But the more links you have, the more images it will take.
This is what it should look like now. Make sure no layers are involved, as it will have to have just one. (Save a backup blend with layers if you need to.)

To start off with, select the biggest part of the blend (in other words, the part without the links or where they will go) as seen here: and use the cut tool for a quicker copy and paste. But you will need this selection out of the way. Then use paste as new image tool.
Off to the side, you should now have this piece.

Basically, repeat that step with the top long piece of the banner, using the cut and paste as image. This should leave a long rectangle with just the link. The piece you should have acquired is this:
vys1e.jpg

Now, you will probably have transparent or white for the empty part from where you cut out. When selecting the actual link itself (the text/word), be sure not to select any white or transparent and just the image. One pixel can throw the whole banner astray. This is the part where I have selected "Theme". Then you cut and paste as image and should have this:
2lixyc0.jpg

Then you repeat that (without selecting anything but the image itself, or no white or transparent pieces) and should have these two images.

Now that you have your pieces separated, you will have to save them and make sure you have them all like so: See here.

What to do now is well, code the links and piece it back together like a puzzle. For this banner, and long rectangle piece will go on top. You must press enter for the next part. Then the piece with the eyes following the link (to link it, just the same as using the URL button but with the image inside where you would put like your character's biography in text). Like this:
Code:
[URL=whatever link you will use should be here][IMG]the part of the banner that should be linked[/IMG][/URL]
Then the piece that will go after it, the smallest in this example.
Press enter and then put the bottom.
Like this:

And this is what it should look like as a signature.
Code:

[IMG]http://i46.tinypic.com/33eiij5.jpg[/IMG][URL=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-K1LmsEANA][IMG]http://i45.tinypic.com/2lixyc0.jpg[/IMG][/URL][IMG]http://i50.tinypic.com/16gjrdi.jpg[/IMG]

And I think that wraps up the tutorial...
