Dan Adams wasn't the kind of person you would usually find in the Student Lounge. This place was for happy, friendly and sociable people who wanted to mix with their friends. And as Dan sat on the sofa he looked around to see if there was anyone worth talking to.

Dan had made a promise to himself that he would try and be more friendly with people from now on. Since his last detention with Professor Weasley, Dan had turned a huge corner in his life and making his best effort to be nice to people. Of course, Dan's naturally short temper was a disadvantage to him, but Dan was trying his best and that's all that mattered. For the first time in ages, Dan found himself feeling to shy to approach anyone, he had never been taught how to start a friendly conversation, the majority of conversations that Dan was used to having, usually involved a threat of some kind, or some kind of physical pain would be experienced. Dan decided against it, as he sat back into the sofa, waiting to see if anyone approached him first.

Mark was dressed in his Hufflepuff uniform as he had just come from a lesson but he was getting bored of the constant sight of the common room so was on his way to the student lounge. He knew there would be others there but that was a good thing to him, he liked being around others. It meant that he was less likely to become depressed again as he was happier around other people. He owed it to Logan to be strong and get through it. He also owed it to Alana, since they had sorted their problems out things had been great between them. Although he was kind of being immature in the relationship0 but he couldn't help it, he wasn't doing it on purpose. Not at all.

With a sigh mark sat next to a boy from his year. He didn't know his name but he remembered him from one defence against the dark arts lesson. He didn't know what to say, he had heard this boy was not really one to cross, or talk to or even acknowledge for that matter. He just sat in front of the fire, enjoying the heat

Dan shuffled up a little as guy sat next to him. He recognised the kid from his year, and Dan knew he had been in one or two of his lessons, but he didn't know his name. Dan watch the boy sit down. "Alright?" He said, giving the guy a re-assuring, 'I'm not about to beat you up' nod. Dan was trying his best to change for the better. He was finding it a challenge, but so far things were going well for Dan. He had attended his first lesson in ages. And that, for Dan, was progress.

Dan sat up a bit more, preparing to talk to the boy. "So you're in my year right?" He asked the guy, not really sure of what else to say. Dan had rarely had a friendly conversation with someone, so much so that he didn't even know how too anymore, but he was trying his best, and that was all that mattered. "I'm Dan..." He said, almost a little nervously, as he held his hand out to the guy for a 'man-meets-man' shake.

Mark settled in to the comfy sofa as his legs were warmed by the fire. He wanted to relax a little before he did some homework. He was study a lot now with the NEWTs coming up and he wanted to do well when he left school. When the boy next to Mark spoke the teenager looked to his side. "Hi." He said a little uncertain of what he was meant to say. Luckily the other boy spoke first. "Yeah. seventh year." He said scratching the back of his neck as Dan offered his hand, it seemed like an old fashioned thing to do but the Veela shook it anyway. "Im Mark." He replied letting go of his hand. He wondered if this was a act or if this boy was actually nice and what he had heard were just rumours. "Have you just come from a lesson." He asked before noticing that he wasn't wearing a uniform. "Oh urm never mind actually." He said with a small laugh

Dan relaxed a little as the guy was friendly enough with him. He wondered why he had never really seen this guy around school all that much, although they were in different houses, Dan could tell by his uniform. Dan had previously spent most of his years here as a Gryffindor in the Common Room. It wasn't until now that he was venturing out to socialise with the rest of the school. Dan smiled a little as Mark asked a stupid question. "Yeah...urm...no I haven't..." He told him awkwardly. "I take it you have?" He said, looking at the boys uniform. He certainly was no rebel, which Dan thought was a good thing, but Dan was generally stuck on the becoming friends part. He almost wished there was a 'make me your friend' spell that he could learn and master. "Oh it's good to meet you Mark by the way...Sorry I'm...not with it..." Dan added on, quickly making up an excuse for his lack of conversation techniques. That's the one thing that Dan had become good at over the years, making up excuses, very rarely did Dan ever tell the truth when it came to sticky situations.
