Sakura walked up the long flight of steps to the owlery to where she had put Digs her owl. It was time to write the letter that she had been putting off since the chosen champions were named. Her family she knew would be thrilled that she hadn't made champion, would it be unfair to let them stew a bit longer?
She took out the parchment and quill, writing it now would definitely be easier. Like ripping off a band aid she had to get it over with once and for all.

Dear Mom, Dad and Grandpa,

I know you've been waiting to hear from me regarding the triwizard. We arrived here safely and are staying in heated tents on the lawn. Everyone is very friendly and really great to speak to. The first day we got here we had to put our names into the goblet, today the champions were named. You needed worry any longer - I didn't get chosen...

She was more upset with her family being delighted than what she was by not being the Hogwarts Scotland champion. She folded the very short note, not even bothering with a proper sized letter and put it into an envelope. Calling Digs over she gave him the note.
"Just straight home Digs" she released the bird and stood watching him fly off. A somber feeling stole over her.

Two days had passed without word from her family, Sakura had gotten on with school life, being with her friends and even joining in on the Gryffindor practise session. It rackled deeply that she had heard nothing, she had waited for at least an hour sitting alone in the owlery waiting; today she came back again with a longer letter. Perhaps this was what they wanted instead. Digs had returned later the evening of the announcement tired and fed up but empty of any message. She had wondered why they just hadn't held onto him, to feed him and let him rest. Were they still very angry with her then for not paying attention to them, for entering her name when they had expressly forbidden it.

She called to Digs now and attached the other letter to his leg and fed him a treat before sending him once again on his way.
"Just be careful out there" she watched from the towers window as he flew off becoming just a small speck on the horizon before at last completely disappearing from view.
