MEANING:
Jacob: That supplants, undermines, the heel.
Finley: Scottish: from the Gaelic personal name Fionnlagh (Old Irish Findlaech), composed of the elements fionn 'white', 'fair' (see Finn) + laoch 'warrior', 'hero', which seems to have been reinforced by an Old Norse personal name composed of the elements finn 'Finn' + leikr 'fight', 'battle', 'hero'.

WHY:
Finley is the last name of his adoptive parents. They gave him the name as soon as he was adopted. He got the name Jacob from his real parents, but he doesn't know why they gave him that name. When Jacob tried to search for his biological family he found out they had died when Jacob was five. He was sad he had never met them.

Jacob doesn't have any nicknames currently, but people can call him Jake.

FATHER NAME: Peter Finley BLOOD STATUS: Muggle Peter is Jacob his adoptive father. He and is father had a fairly good relationship until Jacob started to be in freak accidents. After a couple of weird incidents his dad got scared of him. A ministry worker had to tell Peter that it was normal for a wizard to be and thus he started to understand it more. His father still trusts Jacob a lot less than he used to do. Jacob loves his dad and is glad that he got adopted by the lovely family. He hoped the relationship can get back to what it was before he went to Hogwarts.</TD></TR></TABLE>

MOTHER: NAME: Janice Justine Finley - Rovers BLOOD STATUS: Muggle Janice is Jacob his adoptive mother. Jacob loves his mother and they have a really good relationship. The relationship dampened down a bit due to the fact that Jacob was involved into some freak incidents. His mother didn't really care, but her husband pulled Janice to his side. Now the relationship is a lot less warm, but his mother tries to still be there for him whenever she can.​

It was hard for Jacob to pick out a pet to bring to Hogwarts. Jacob his parents own two cats. Peter and Janice both have one for their own, but the cats didn't seem to like Jacob as much. Jacob didn't like them as much either and brought a brown owl to Hogwarts with him. He named the owl Rover.

THOUGHTS WHILE BEING SORTE
Jacob was scared that he didn't posses enough magic to go through with his education at Hogwarts. He also was sad that he didn't have the full support of his parents behind him. His parents were still distrustful of the school and that made Jacob iffy if he could make it work.

SORTING POST:
The day he got his acceptance letter was an odd day. A staff from Hogwarts came to deliver the letter personally to his doorstep which was odd. he wondered if that happened with every kid that got accepted into the school. That seemed a bit expensive and over the top, but Jacob didn't question it. He didn't question the person at all, the person just spoke about the school and his parents looked worrisome. Like they still didn't believe their perfect mundane Jacob could do magic. Last year they had experienced some freak accidents surrounding Jacob and if that wasn't enough someone from some magical ministry came to talk to his parents. It had to be done since his parents had almost called the police to get him shipped away to some institute to check what was wrong with him.

His parents still didn't trust him fully so the person with letter wasn't accepted with much glee. They knew the day would come, but they had hoped it all had been a horrible dream. Jacob still cared a lot about his adoptive parents, at least they cared about him not like his biological ones had. They had just dumped him in the adoptive home where the Finley's found him. Not wanting to think about it anymore Jacob touched the ticket for the one hundred time this week. He was ready for everything he had packed a big suitcase and got all the stuff he needed. His parents brought him to the closest possible station and gave him a firm hug and left. This was it, he was on his own now.

He searched the train for an empty spot and sat down. Enjoying his peace and quietness, he grabbed his journal and started to write about his day. Writing in his journal made Jacob his mind wander off to different places and kept him sane. When they were escorted outside the train Jacob shuffled behind everyone. He observed everyone and looked for nerves and other behavioural differences. Living with his adoptive parents made him good at reading behaviour. He noticed some students acting a bit nervous and he didn't blame them. As soon as the castle grew closer and closer he felt the knot in his stomach too.

They entered the castle and were told a bit of welcome speech. Then a large pair of doors opened and large dining room came into view. Four giant tables with different colours banners for students and one horizontal table for staff it seemed. Jacob tried suck every detail in before it was his turn. He didn't want to hear were the other students were going, he would try to see if there was logic behind it. ''Finley, Jacob'' Now it was Jacob his turn and he felt the knot going tighter and tighter. He walked up to the stool and let out a sigh. What if the hat decided he didn't have enough magic in him, would that mean he would be expelled on his first day with his memory wiped. He didn't want to think about it anymore. Jacob closed his eyes and waited for the mighty hat to do his own magic.
