It's A Bittersweet Symphony...

It was only Autumn and yet as Izaak stood with his spine pressed to the brickwork of a local tavern, a huff of wind, one that must have ripped straight of off the oceans that flowed down the world’s end, roared straight through the cobblestoned street of the Brightstone village. The nineteen year old shuddered at the bitter temperature, the muscles in his upper torso froze rigid and he drew his leather jacket tight around his icy body. He didn’t want to be here, not when he could be enjoying a summery day back at home, even if he would get to see his girlfriend.

Izaak pressed his lips together tight at the thought of Alexis and the guilty trigger that alerted him to his near brush with what would have been his second infidelity. She had tried to make him aware of the fact that his feelings for Isabella could change and he had point blank refused to believe it. But then he had caught just a second of taste of yearning for the mother of his unborn child and now he felt sick to the stomach with guilt. And just when things had finally begun to piece together, just when he could feel their relationship approaching a point stronger than it had ever been before. Izaak felt as if he should tell her, but what would he say? Oh yeah Alexis, I almost kissed her. But I didn’t, I swear. He rolled his azure blue eyes up in disgrace at himself before casting them to the window across to his left and shivered at the cold once more. Perhaps a butterbeer would suffice. But with only a handful of coins, their value currently undetermined, in his wallet and with no company to join him, Izaak could not help but feel a little half-hearted.

School was so close to being over for Maddiie and as she walked with a big hefty bag, which contain her dress for her father upcoming wedding, she had mix emotion just thinking about it. In ways she felt overwhelmed at those she will finally say goodbye and possibly never see again, on the other hand it was finally a relief, seven whole long years of struggling and trying to keep up, was finally coming to an end. She was surprised that she even last that long, guess there was such thing as luck.

Her thoughts slowly wonder off, pushing the sadness away, carring the dress around wasn't easy as she expected. She carefully tried to fling it over her shoulder almost missing someone that was walking nearby, as she quickly apologise, her faced flushed an embarrassment. She contemplated the thoughts of going back to Hogwarts after spending endless hours of choosing this dress at a nearby boutique. The weather wasn't bad outside and there was no need to rush, at least that's what she thought. Alex hadn't gone with her, he made up some excused about catching up with assignments. Maddiie figure he would bail and tried to ask Kasey but she was busy to. She was alone so she might as well rest for a while, finding a bench she sat down as she withdrew in fresh air. There was something about the Autumn weather that Maddiie felt she could relate to. Maybe it was the changing in the atmosphere, how the trees leaves would change into a orchard color, or how they become frail and fall all around us. Maybe it had something to do with change, she pin pointed for a few seconds as she exhale again, letting the slight breeze bring some sort of comfort easily.

Izaak’s shocking blue gaze dropped a line through the window of the tavern, reaching out in a silent plea to the happiness of a group of young students slurping carelessly at their heated butterbeers. Not only were they much more warmer than himself but they did not have to worry about the repercussions of one night stands or the constant breaking and mending of a long enduring relationship. Barely teenagers, their anxieties wouldn’t venture much further than a pop quiz in class the next day. His azure eyes teemed with unjust jealously as they tore away from the giddy scene and were pricked sharply by a now humbled breeze that arched through the village.

A jagged sigh tore from his chest as his gaze sought after a venue with a little less cheer because right now in such a bitter mood, Izaak was in no mind for cheer. The greyed and battered canvas of his white Converse sneakers scuffed along the cobblestone as the nineteen year old sauntered away from the tavern. He did not even bother to lift his azure blue eyes as he crossed the street as he had become far too absorbed in the ivory streaks of feet in motion that contrasted greatly against the age-old road. Sighting the legs of a bench nearby, Izaak allowed himself to drop ungracefully to its seat and huddle his fists in his lap. Tied, still, to the ground, Izaak’s gaze first found a rather bulky bag. Surprised by the realisation that someone else was beside him and Izaak had not noticed, he whipped his dazzling blue eyes upward and smiled warmly at the dark-haired beauty. "Shouldn’t you be at the airport or something?" The smile had now widened to a light-hearted grin as Izaak flicked his curious eyes over the girl and her obviously hefty baggage.

Maddiie soft honey optics would look up to the one that had spoken to her. The question he had asked her stunned for a few seconds, it’s not everyday someone just instantly starts talking to you as if you already knew them. “No.” was her first respond as she looked back down again, she had to remind herself not to frigid to much or else he would come to the conclusion that she wanted to be left alone. “I mean I wish…” she gaze up to give him a settling smile, the corner of her lip twitched up, welcoming in a conversation if that was his main target. It was true she wished many times before to depart from the sight of her school, yarning to be with her grandfather at the moment. He was close to her mother memories that actually exist; the trouble of trying not to forget was becoming difficulty as the year’s progress. Maddiie mind had wandered off as usual but not long as she was aware she was still present of a stranger, cute stranger that is.

“No I go to school here.” She said slowly her words sounding friendly, her fingers still laced around the bag of her bridesmaid dress. “Do you work around here?” Maddiie asked a question for a question not recognizing him from school at all. He seemed a bit older, by not much she noted; his style of clothing was way different from the young men of New Zealand. She had seen this kind of fashion before, she instantly thought of America, it had to be, she ponder but not for long. Maddiie wasn’t much for fashion; however it came natural to her even when she wasn’t ever trying.

Izaak allowed a humoured scoff to escape his lips at the girl’s response to his question. His azure blue eyes caught hold of her face and the crooked smile that seemed to be the most welcoming gesture he had been given all day. Izaak returned it with one of his own, as a part of him got to wishing that this girl had little else on her agenda so that he could stay and get to know her. But after flicking his stunning gaze down once more to the bag, he could not be so sure.

Izaak’s lips fell apart in realisation and mouthed a soft ‘oh’ as she told him that she was a student at the same school that just about everybody else in Brightstone attended. He scanned her over once more and concluded that she could not be more than a year younger then him, which would place her in Alexis’ year. But his thoughts were anchored back to himself as she asked if he worked in the vicinity. “Uh, well kinda,” Izaak laughed melodically before shaking his head at himself. After living in the States up until six years ago and whilst attending school in Britain he had gotten so used to commuting halfway across the world that the distance between Australia and New Zealand now seemed small enough to walk. “Not really actually. I work on Bondi beach, heard of it?” The smile playing on his lips was now expectant as he wondered if any Australian beaches were known to the Hogwarts New Zealand students.

“And you, let me guess…” Izaak grinned as he narrowed the shape of his bright blue eyes as if he were examining the girl before him. “You’re a seventh year?” He chuckled softly upon breaking his analytical stance and fixated on the swirling honey and caramel tones in her irises with full eyes, a smile touching them just enough. “I’m Izaak.”

Maddiie couldn't help but showcase her familiar grin, if she had a mirror right in front of she would swear she display the same silly smiles clown painted on, while performing in the circus. There she goes again, she sighed deep inside, her silly comparison coming out of nowhere. "No I don't think I heard of that beach before, sounds fun." it struck her dumbfounded that she hadn't, especially when her father and her brothers had nearly travel all over the world. "Got that right." she nodded, her tawny tresses flicking as she used the tips of her fingers to brush it back towards her ears. She wasn't going to mention that she was suppose to have been graduated last year, and only because her father was going through trouble times, that she was held back another year. A slight hint of disappointed leak through her eyes, she shrugged it away when she look back hearing the boys name. "Nice name Izaak." her pouty lips still held her smiled. "I'm Maddiie, you know I swear for some reason." she looked at him closely. "Some reason you look familiar." now that she paid more attention to his eyes, and the way his hair was styled. Maddiie probably would have mistaken him for a model, no that wasn't right, he just look like someone she may have known before.

Izaak watched with intrigued blue eyes as an exuberant grin rode right across the girl’s pleasant expression. It must have been contagious too because it reflected right off of Izaak’s features. There was already something about this girl that caused him to flounder and forget all that he had dove into with Alexis and Isabella and that something was exactly what he had been searching for, even if he didn’t know it himself. “Oh, you’ll have to go there some day. I’m sure you’d love it, everyone does.” Izaak could feel his chest begin to swell with pride at the thought of the beach, his beach as he so rightfully liked to claim it.

“Well, um, thankyou?” Izaak returned her compliment gratefully and just a little unsurely. It was rare that he ever got a compliment, some people told him it was different while most others seemed to accept it as per usual. In exchange he was given her name. Maddiie, cute. But at the following words he soon cocked his head in curiosity, his fringe tumbling gracefully from his forehead as he did so. His vivid blue eyes raked circles across Maddiie’s face, trying to see if he recognised her in any which way. Though nothing arose. “I’m around here practically every Brightstone weekend cause my girlfriend goes to your school too. But other than that, I don’t think we’ve met.” The nineteen year old shrugged casually and could think of no other way in which the two of them could have possibly crossed paths. Izaak was sure he would have remembered her, Maddiie wasn’t a face to forget. Dissing the thought with a slight shake of his head, Izaak perked up with a bright smile written plainly across his lips. “So I bet you’re excited for graduation, huh? You’ll finally be free of that prison.” He nudged his possible, new-found friend with a gentle elbow as he teased her about the school.

“Your welcome.” Maddiie looked down a bit flushed that she was staring at Izaak. It had to be against the rules to have been looking the way she had so intrigue by his demeanor. He was nothing like her fiancé, yet Alex has his own charm that always seem to capture Maddiie alluring her into a dream like daze. When he mention his girlfriend for some reason she felt a little crestfallen, just a little not enough to take away the dazzling smile she seem to hold on for a lot longer than usual. “Oh that’s cool.” A sense of serene in her tone of voice, probably not knowing his girlfriend as well. “I think a lot of tourist tends to attract New Zealand a lot more these days.” Maddiie analyze the words she spoke so freely now, her poise calm now as they continue their partial conversation.

“Yes I can’t wait.” She laughed at his nudge, the conformabilities level settling all around them. “I mean its not that bad, when I first started.” She chuckle looking at her bag, than her gaze looked up towards the busy streets of Brightstones, before her attention went back to Izaak. “What school you went to? Probably was a lot better than Hogwarts.” She guessed, her eye lashes flicker, wondering.

Izaak gave a few enthused nods at his company's words, agreeing wholeheartedly with her comment on the tourism. "Oh yeah, sure does." But for a reason unknown to him, his mind suddenly got to wondering where Issy was today and what she was up to. The last time he had been in New Zealand was the last time he had seen her, the time they had almost kissed... Twice. But Izaak drew in a deep breath and shook his head clear of those thoughts. There had been something sparking between them, they had both seen and felt it. But for the sake of his relationship and keeping his beautiful girl by his side, Izaak could not afford to investigate it any further.

Her laughter was like harmonious music to his ears, rescuing him gallantly from the depth and confusion of his thoughts. He passed Maddiie a grateful smile yet she would continue on oblivious as to how she was helping him forget, even if only for a little while. Izaak’s azure eyes rolled up playfully at the dark-haired girl before him as she told him that the school wasn’t that bad, like he was urging her to admit defeat and confess otherwise. "What school you went to? Probably was a lot better than Hogwarts." Izaak chuckled once more, feeling more and more uplifted by the mere minute. “Actually it was a Hogwarts, one in England, hell knows why. I ‘spose I just knew deep down that I didn’t want to go to this one, hey?” Izaak grinned brightly, throwing Maddiie a quick and cheeky wink. “But it was so much better, we got away with absolutely everything… Sneaking out of the grounds, getting drunk on firewhiskey in the kitchens, going for midnight swims in the lake. It was great. Just as long as we graduated they didn’t really care.” The nineteen year old was laughing now, riding high on the joyous memories of his seventh year which, by no surprise, was so very different to his life now.

“So Maddiie,” He began, clapping his palm against his thigh and standing from the bench with a smile of familiarity. “Do you have somewhere better you have to be or do you wanna take a walk with me?” Izaak was beaming now, holding his hand out to the girl before him if she were to accept his offer so that he could help her graciously from the bench and hoping sincerely that she would decide on the latter.

"Not if you want to be rundown by a bulldozer." Maddiie chuckles at her insider joke to herself. Alex was the bulldozer she was referring to. "Sorry kind of a joke, I'm engaged to be married." she showed Izaak her simple but flawless three cut diamond ring. It glisten in the afternoon sun, standing out so bright phasing so beautifully against her umber complexion. "I don't mind though I have nothing better to do." she was sure Alex was still parading somewhere with a couple friends. Maddiie trust herself not to do anything that may damage their relationship, after all she was promise to be.

Already done looking for her dress, Maddiie slipped out her wand, and with a fluent flick of her wrist she pointed her wand towards the bag. A few effortless words were spoken, the bag was gone clearly out of her site. She stood up with the assistance of Izaak grip, and let go once she had control of her own balance. "So newbie." she laughed again, her tawny tresses flowing left to right as she shook her head. "Kidding I'm sure you know this place a lot more than me." she would say brushing a length of her forelock behind her ears.

The nineteen year old cocked a confused eyebrow in Maddiie’s direction as she chuckled at a joke that he could not help but fail to understand. But as she flashed him a glinting, diamond ring, Izaak’s lips fell open in a silent ‘oh’ before breathing a chuckle himself. By now Izaak had become strangely desensitised to the fact that everybody around him, of his age group too, were suddenly getting engaged. At first glance he had thought them crazy but now, months on, was indifferently accepting. Perhaps it had much to do with the fact that Alexis didn’t want to get married, which after being in such a withstanding relationship must have drawn a vast majority of the pressure off of his shoulders.

He laughed a little incredulously in response, knowing that he could pack a punch himself but not really sure of anything but that, “A bulldozer? Haha, well we better hope we don’t cross paths with him then.” Izaak stuck his tongue out at Maddiie as she stood up from the bench. “Oh, and congratulations. He's lucky to have you.” He threw her a warm smile and a wink then before tucking one hand into the pocket of his jacket and feeling the brush of a velvet covered box beneath his fingers. It was his own ring, for his own girlfriend. Not a marriage proposal but a promise he had sworn he’d keep. Tonight was theirs; there was no doubt about it.

"So newbie." Izaak jaw dropped in a perfect imitation of shocked offence as his azure blue eyes narrowed to a playful glare even as she redeemed her words. “Well…” Izaak began with a teasing tone lying clearly in the timbre of his voice as his fingers sifted through a few coins in his wallet that he had drawn out from the back pocket of his jeans. Hastily he grouped together a few gold wizarding coins, separating them from the likes of his muggle ones and realised that he’d have just enough for what he was about to tempt the girl before him with. “I was going to shout you an ice-cream but, eh, whatever…” The nineteen year old shrugged aloofly as he glanced over at Maddiie but he could not ever deny the permanency of the cheeky sparkle within his shockingly blue eyes.

Maddiie laughed at Izaak, she knew he was only joking. Despite Alex being the manly tough guy that he was, he was also very caring and gentle. The nights that she had spent with Alex will always be imprinted in her memories, it made her beating heart flutter whenever she thought about him. The fact she was still struggling with her inner voice, she still loved him and couldn't wish for no other. Yes they did rush their engagement a lot agile than most, that's why she was happy that he agree to wait a little longer to actually tied the knot. It made the situation a lot less apprehension for Maddiie. Another reason why she truly loved Alex, even though she was sure he would married her right now if he could. Maddiie smiled just thinking about him, as she happily spoke a "Thank you" towards Izaak.

Slowly she would walk next to Izaak till she match his perfect stride. "Oh ice cream, I'm allergic anyways." she fib a little laughing, placing her wand deep inside her sleeves for safe keeping. It sounded tempting as she thought about it more, when was the last time she visited the old ice cream parlour? Maddiie couldn't recall, and figure it sounded more appealing to her at the moment. "Well now you will have to treat me to one. I haven't had cookies and cream for ages!" she excitedly express her words, sounding younger than what she really was. Least she was enjoying herself today, meeting someone new was always loads of fun.

Izaak chuckled harmoniously as Maddiie kidded about having allergies to ice cream. It was only a little surreal that he was so comfortable with this new found company. But Izaak was not in the mood to question this familiar feeling because it suddenly felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from his weary shoulders. Seemingly with Maddiie he was free to forget all about his messed up little love triangle. “Mmm, yeah cookies and cream is alright but it has absolutely nothing on peppermint choc-chip.” Izaak teased with a laugh brewing in his words before jerking his head towards the end of the street, suggesting that they walk in that direction.

“So,” Izaak began with a sharp exhale and a grin as he and Maddiie walked side by side down the cobblestone street of Brightstone. “Where’s this Bulldozer of yours? And what was with the bag?” Realising that he was probably being too nosy to be polite, he quickly added, “If you don’t mind me asking…”

"To be frank I'm not sure were he is, I tend not to be the clinging obsessive girlfriend." Maddiie gave a weary smile as she follow Izaak lead. Maybe she was admitting this to soon to realise it was more likely the other way around. Negative thoughts soon swarm endlessly in the back of her mind, she hated when she felt hostile it was beginning to annoy Maddiie. It felt like maybe she needed a lot more help to deal with her personal issues than she had recognise. "The bag a dress, but not what your thinking." she immediately spoke without putting so much thoughts to what she was saying at the moment.

"Its a bridesmaid dress." she looked up to meet Izaak gaze. "My dad." the widow, "getting married again." Izaak was the first person she had reveal this rather exciting news. Even though she felt a little indifferent telling someone she just met her family news, she didn't seem to mind it at all. She was planning on telling Ginny and Jade soon, there were a few individuals she was going to invite either way. "My step sister, well future step sister goes to the same school, she's a Ravenclaw.."Maddiie explain a little, exhaling slowly as she let her gaze lift away from Izaak, more thoughts piling up after another. "So your lovely? What's her name? I may know her by face, I'm sure your aware of all seventh years having lessons together." Maddiie asked, wondering if she was one of those transfer student. She had already met quite a few of them, didn't mind them at all. In fact met a hufflepuff girl who was a year younger than Maddiie. She remembered a few times when they had lunch and conversated basically on everything, except personal topics. Maddiie had always been a very private person, little by little that was changing out of nowhere she noticed.
[Sorry a bit lame, kind of sick atm]

Well, good for her, Izaak smiled to himself as Maddiie implied her indifference to her fiance’s whereabouts. Despite the worn smile on her lips, her views seemed to be a refresher for the nineteen year old. He and Alexis had been clinging to each other as if their lives depended on it ever since she had forgiven him for his drunken one night stand. Perhaps it was because they both knew deep down that if they let go for even the slightest of seconds and disturbed whatever it was that had been holding them together, their relationship would crumble to pieces. Izaak did not know if this was true or not, but he would rather not test the foreign waters, not if it meant losing his love.

It was almost surprising to hear the excitement that tinged Maddiie’s voice as she spoke of her father’s wedding. Izaak had not had contact with his parents for over six years and he wasn’t planning on breaking that trend anytime soon. Their divorce papers had been settling over his fourteenth birthday, a year after he and Leah had left home together but since then he had heard no more news. Not of new partners, or remarrying or any step siblings he might have. And with all the honesty in the world, he did not care, not one bit. But through his ignorance to his own parents failed marriage, Izaak was well aware of the fact that children were not usually fans of their parents remarrying. Choosing though to opt with a light comment instead of the possibility of raising questions about his own views or parents, Izaak pressed forward with a grin pasted on his lips. “Wow. That must have been some dress.”

"So your lovely? What's her name?" Izaak’s smile grew more sincere at the question asked about his girlfriend. A loving gleam, one that surfaced over all the strain and the anxiety, boosted the bright blue of Izaak’s irises as his hand slender fingers subconsciously went to his pocket and traced the shape of the ring box through the material. “Her name’s Alexis Richarde, she’s a Gryff and she transferred here from the school we both used to go to nearly six months ago…” Suddenly the ice cream parlour had crept up on the two of them and Izaak stopped at the door to pull it gallantly open for Maddiie, allowing her to step inside first before laughing, curling his fingers tightly around her wrist and dragging her to the front counter to stare at all the mouth-watering flavours. “A cookies and cream, and a peppermint choc-chip thanks.” Izaak smiled at the grey, curly haired woman behind the counter before glancing down at Maddiie just to check that she had still wanted what she had all but drooled over mere minutes ago. Already having let go of his company’s wrist, Izaak dragged out his wallet from the front pocket of his jeans and scoured through it for the few coins that he would need to treat them both. Once placing the currency on the bench, Izaak turned to Maddiie with a smile and a chest puffed with pride for having such a beautiful young woman all to himself. He tilted the inside of his wallet towards her to flash her the snapshot of Alexis that he had taken on one of their many strolls down Sydney’s beaches. “That’s her. You might’ve, you might not have…” He shrugged as he referred to whether or not Maddiie had seen her before.

it wasn't lame at all ;] but god i feel like i just blabbed about nothing XD

“You didn’t have to-“It was too late for Maddiie to even say another word, Izaak had paid for both their dairy treats, she scowled playfully at her company. Turning slightly to level with Izaak, she gripped the corner of the pictures in her hand, as a smile innocently spread across her petal lips. “Oh she beautiful” she handed back the picture still holding her radiant smile. “Yes I’ve seen her before, actually would say everyday since we all have classes together.” Maddiie started to toy with her thumbs, as it slipped into the holes of her long sleeves shirt. Maddiie was slowly building a habit of making holes in all her shirt, just so she could feel comfortable within anything she was wearing. “So Izaak where you from?” she hinted he didn’t have a European accent or a native accent. She simply couldn’t judge that way, it be hypocrisy if she did, she was just curious. The fact her accent was suppose to be a mixture of European and Spanish made Maddiie accent sounds really awkward even for Maddiie. Once in awhile you would here the variance in her accent, only when she was fluently speaking Spanish did she sound different.

The grey silk aged woman came back with their frozen treats, Maddiie thanked her pleasantly, turn her gaze around the shop to look for an unoccupied seat. It didn’t take long for her to find one, close to the windows; the sun was beaming, reflecting the windows just right. She gesture Izaak to follow as she listen with absorption for once, letting someone else dialect
rather than herself. She didn’t mind it at all; this afternoon had turned out refreshing to Maddiie. The fact she had little less to worry about at the moment, it was when she was alone made her uneasy. She dreaded the times being alone, lot of memories still dwell deep inside in the back of her mind, she shook her head as she look down. Taking a few bites of her cookie and cream, she let the satisfying taste of her dairy treat take over.

[ Your good no problem ^_^]
