Is this allowed?

My character is skilled at IT whilst growing up but I don't want him to abandon it as soon as he's a student so would it be allowed if I RP'd that I had a laptop to stay in touch with family, friends, work etc. Obviously he cannot hack Hogwarts so that wouldn't be his intention but he's spent most of his life focused on computers and wouldn't give it up willingly.

Even though that's the case, there's no need for him to give it up completely! He can use his laptop during holidays, and show his friends by inviting them to his place in the holidays!
