Brodie was sitting on his bed reading a book when one of th boys came in and told him there was an owl up in the owlery with a letter for him and was flying away from anyone who came near it. Brodie sighed, it was his uncles owl. He silently made his way to the owlery. Once there he saw the jet black owl with a letter adressed to him. "why hello there Angel" he said before petting the owl. He took the letter and read it silently.
Brodie

Your filth mother has been taken care of, we have killed her. Her hsband has also been taken care of, the child has been sent away to an orphange, we saw no reason to kill her as long as she never finds us, she is no longer in our family tree. They let me be the one to give you the happy news.

Edward

Brodie was in shock. He read the letter over and over again, could his mom really be dead? He knew that his family was planning to get rid of her, but he never thought they would do it. I'll never see her again, my mommy, the one who took care of me and loved me. Could she really be dead? he thought over and over again. The last time I spoke to her.... I told her I hated her and that she didn't deserve to live. Tears started to pool in his eyes. He whiped around to see some confused people, "LEAVE!" he screamed. "GET OUT OF HERE NOW!" he added. Needless to say the ran. He couldn't stop them anymore, tears leaked from his eyes and he broke down.

Derrik was just walking around in the school when he saw a few boys run away and talking about some kid. They said that he yelled at them and he was left crying in the owlery. The way that the boys described them, Derrik couldn't think of anyone else a temper other then Brodie.

Derrik went to the owlery just to check. As he walked up, he heard a few sobs. There he saw Brodie sitting and sobbing a bit. There was a note in his hands but couldn't read it because of the way it was written.

Derrik wasn't sure if he should say anything but what could he do? Even though he hated Brodie as much as Brodie hated him, he just couldn't leave him there like that.

"Um...Brodie?"

Um... Brodie?"

He knew the voice right away. Derrik. Just ther person Brodie never wanted to see. Brodie looked up with tears still in his eyes, "and what do you want?" he asked un a cruel voice, "Can't a person be left alone in peace with out being bugged constantly by filth any more?" he asked. Brodie stood up and crumpled the note in his hand before turning towards the owl, "Angel go home, I have no reply" he said to the owl before it flew off.

Of course, rude as ever.

"I heard some kids while I was walking around. They said some kid was up here yelling and was crying afterwards. I...just wanted to make sure that everything was okay."

Even though it seemed like Brodie didn't care, Derrik somewhat did. No matter who the person was, he didn't like it when someone was upset. It would just throw off his whole balance.

"I was not crying, only wimps cry" he hissed though clentched teeth. Brodie slowly turned around to face Derrik, "where Fayina when you need her?" Brodie asked. "If you must know they finally got rid of my mother and her husband" he added. "I'm happy, theres no longer filth dirtying up my family tree"

Derrik heard the words he'd never wait to hear.

"I'm sorry to hear about that....but somethings not right. You don't hate your mom do you? She is the one who took care of you I would hope." Derrik didn't want to start a fight or light a spark that didn't need it. But how could he talk about his mom that way?

"what does it matter to you!? You dont need to know anything about my family!" Brodie spat. He was suddenly overcome with anger, he ran over to Derrik and punched him as hard as he could in the stomach. "f*ck YOU" he yelled.

"Still..." Suddenly Derrik saw Brodie running after him. "Uff" Derrik hit the ground. There was so much pain in his stomach. There was no way a kid like this had so much anger. To strike back, with the energy Derrik had left, he swiped at Brodie's feet to bring him down.

Brodie fell down with a crash, he hit his node hard and felt hot blood start to run down his face, "Oh good job dumb ass, broke my nose" Brodie sat sitting up to feel his nose. It didn't feel broken, but still, IT HURT. Brodie stood up and thought of kicking Derrik in the face, but decided he already had enough judging by the look on his face. It was kind of funny, in a sadistic way.

Derrik got up and leaned against a wall.

"Be happy its not okay? And how is it that you can be like this? I don't understand it..." Derrik didn't want anymore pain. He was sick of it. He just couldn't understand how someone could have so much hatred for one person.

"easy, I don't care" he said. It was an obvious lie. You could see it in his chocolate brown eyes how much pain he was feeling for his dead mother. The fact that he would never see her red hair or bright smile again really got to him. No more camping out in the family room, no more staying up late watching lightening storms. No more nothing. She was gone, and she never knew how much her son loved her.

"You're lying...I can tell. Derrik could see it in his eyes. No one could just not care about everything, it was not possible.

"You know for a fact you care but its just you're afraid that if you show emotion, that you'll be targeted." Derrik was being a little fierce.

Brodie glared at Derrik, "you have no idea what its like to have people minipulate your emotions and how humilating it is, emotions only cause trouble" he said in a voice that would make people cower. Brodie looked like he could kill, the hair on his arms and neck were standing up and his hands balled into fists. No one would ever mess with him like his family had ever again.

Daisy was making her way up to the Owlery. It had been a while since she'd contacted anyone from home, and she thought that now was as good a time as any to do it. Daisy had changed a fair bit over the past few weeks as she realised how different Hogwarts was to her home. Back at the Foster House, everyone was tough. The older kids were the leaders, the younger kids were the followers. However, they were also family, and everyone loved each other deep down. At Hogwarts, there were so many types of people Daisy wasn't used to. A lot of them she couldn't stand the sight of. So, you'd think she'd fight back. You'd think the old Daisy would show those loser's who was boss, and then continue doing her own thing. But these days, she was just so tired. Tired of the people, tired from classes, tired from trying to keep her tough bravado up. So instead, the inconquerable Daisy had given up, at least for now. These days she kept to herself, just trying to make it through each day without exploding from frustration.

Now, as she entered the Owlery, Daisy's long, golden hair hung in her face. She didn't make eye contact with anyone, hoping she could just be invisible, and get away quickly. After attaching her letter to an owl's leg, she hurriedly turned to leave. However, as she placed one foot out the door, Daisy saw something strange. Her friend Brodie seemed to be having an argument with another boy, and it seemed to be getting heated. Actually, it wasn't really argument at all, Daisy realised, when the sun glinted off the water on Brodie's face.

"Get out of the way," she hissed quietly, pushing through the tiny crowd of people that were hovering by the door. Looking the other boy up and down, Daisy noticed that he didn't seem too agressive. In fact, he sort of seemed to be trying to help. Well it's obviously not working, She thought bitterly, moving towards him. "Move," Daisy said slightly louder, shoving the boy so that she was now face to face with Brodie. "What's up, Dwarf?" she said to him, having a hard time making her voice sound kind. She was actually going for more of a 'What's wrong, Brodie', but it came across as 'What's wrong with you, Brodie'.

Brodie couldn't believe that he was still talking with Derrik, he wasn't worth his time. Brodie just wanted to go back to his room and think about his mom. He wanted to get away from everyone. He saw that a crowed had formed and were watching them. They had seen him cry, heard about his mom. great just what i needed he thought. Brodie was about to leave when he heard a voice. Only one person called him dwarf, "why hello elf" Brodie replied coldly. "None of yours or anyone elses buisness" Brodie said glaring at them, "but since everyone seems to know already, my mother died" he replied trying to hide the pain in his voice. "Now if you don't mind, I'd like to go back to my room" he added.

Daisy listened as Brodie explained what had caused him to cry. Although the two had not known each other long, it still hurt for her to see him like this. Daisy remembered their conversation in Bleak Street, and didn't notice her hands turn into fists by her sides. Yes, Brodie had told her how his mother would be murdered, and also that he was fine with it. Obviously this wasn't the truth, he was a young boy for Pete's sake! It would be impossible for him to take the news of his mother's death lightly, unless he really was an evil person. Daisy could tell that he wasn't, and it upset her to know that a friend of her's was in pain. She then thought of her own parents, and wondered if she would cry over them.. had Daisy even known who they were.

Daisy then grabbed Brodie's arm as he went to leave. Although she hadn't been doing as much sport as usual, Daisy was still very strong, and had a firm grip. "Brodie." she said sternly, looking him right in the eye. "I know that I'm a coward, but I never thought you were," she continued, a frown on her face. It was of mixed emotions however. Her expression was partly anger, at herself, for giving up so easily. But it was also a worried frown, one a mother may extend to a child in need. "Slytherin's don't just quit, remember?" Daisy finished, feeling slightly hypocritical. Luckily, Brodie didn't know that.
