It was cold outside, Rebecca didn't necessarily like the cold, but it was better than steaming inside. She figured she could always but a few layers on but inside she couldn't really do much to cool down. So she had put on some pants and long sleeves and a jacket and made her way out on the grounds. It was all
lovely. The ground was white and slick with ice but she was careful. She had only been at Hogwarts a short time so she hadn't seen everything yet. She thought she might go to the lake but after a quick change of mind she walked a ways away from it and she couldn't believe what she saw. They were cliffs, it was white and shiny from the sun. Rebecca had never seen anything like it. She wiped some snow away and pulled her coat down some so she could sit. She wondered if Paul had been here. She was sure her older brother had. He was a second year after all. Rebecca had seen a lot of her brother lately, not that she minded they were good friends. But here there were so many people and she had no other friends yet. It reminded her of the lonely days at the orphan edge while Paul was at school. She had waited a year to come here, and now she was worried her dreams of happiness and friendships may have been just that. a fantasy.

Sunshine and coldness. It was the oddest of combinations, but that was just the way the world worked. It intrigued him. Today, was a day to explore. Just like every other 1st year, he had never been around the school. Or the outside for that matter. He started heading down the slick hill that lead to the lakefront. However, he saw some footsteps that leaded elsewhere. Thus, he followed them being the adventurous tyke he was.

He presently came upon cliffs. They were amazing! The snow had covered them in a thin blanket. It caused him to stare in awe at the beloved sight his eyes had laid upon! It almost took his breath away. Paul was pretty sure he would enjoy his time hear. He thought then for a second about the footsteps he had been following. He looked down and started following them once more.

He followed the footsteps until he caught site of a girl. Finally. Time to make a friend. He thought. He slowly walked up to her as to not disturb the snow or make any noise to show that he was coming. As he stood roughly 3 feet away he said, "Why hello there!"

Rebecca was still lost in thought when she heard a voice behind her. Luckily she wasn't the type to jump. She stood up and looked to see who was there. "Hi." She said seeing a boy she assumed was about her age behind her. She wondered how he had stumbled about here. She had thought maybe she had found a special place, but apparently not. "I'm Rebecca." She said. Rebecca hoped maybe this boy would be nice and they could be friends. Then she would be able to tell Paul. She wondered what house the boy was in. She didn't think he was a Slytherin.

"Hey Rebecca! My name's Paul. I'm a Gryffindor. In case you were, like wondering." Paul replied. A little gust of wind blew through his hair. It wasn't long at all, but was remotely short. He wondered what she was doing here all alone. Perhaps she was like him and enjoyed the calmness that was within the Lakefront and Cliffs. Who knew. "Anyways, I just kind of followed your tracks here. Being a first year I really don't know anyone." He said again to her as he smiled. She seemed quite nice so far. However he'd been stabbed in the back before, so who knew. "May I ask what house you're in?" He asked. Paul was quick with the questions usually. He liked to know about people. Whether he should befriend them or stay away. Either way she was a quite nicely looking gal. Perhaps they'd become friends.

Rebecca laughed at the first part of what the boy said. His name was Paul just like her brothers. But then he said he was a Gryffindor, her brother had said not to be friends with them. Paul said that he had followed her here. He sounded nice enough and she really wanted a friend, but what would the rest of the kids in her house say? "That's funny my brother's name is Paul too." She looked at the ground, "I'm a Slytherin." There she had said it. Now he would probably hate her and she would continue having no friends. But even if he didn't how could they keep there friendship a secret?

Her brother had the same name as him. That was interesting. Paul was a common name he supposed. Now that he noticed it she was pretty. Like most the girls here. "You're a Slytherin eh? That's nice. My dad was one." He said smiling. It did not at all bother him for some reason that she was a Slytherin. His dad was, and his dad was one of the most nicest people he knew. So far Rebecca had been very kind to Paul. Which he respected greatly seeing as yesterday a Slytherin spit in his face.

"You know, it really doesn't bother me you're a Slytherin. You've been kind to me so far." He said with a gentle child like smile. He was determined to make her his friend.

Rebecca looked up at him with her crystal green eyes. "You really don't mind?" She said quietly. This was weird for her. She had wanted a friend and that's why she had been so nice. But she new to make friends in Slytherin she would have to act differently. "But if we're going to be friends no one can know." She hoped he wouldn't mind, she really wanted to have a friend. But if anyone found out what little reputation she had would be gone, he was a Gryffindor after all. Rebecca thought about how this could work, they could just meet in secret. It would be fun, a forbidden friendship. She liked the idea of it, she was one for adventure and she loved to take risks.

"I don't mind at all." He said with a smile. Paul understood what she had said. It was true, for her sake nobody could know. It was for his sake as well. What would the other Gryffindors think of Paul if he was hanging around a Slytherin. They'd assume he was one of them. Which, it didn't bother him that Rebecca was a Slytherin, it was just the name the Slytherins earned themselves...slime. He wondered if later on they'd become even better friends. Although, he still didn't know much about Rebecca. "I understand why it has to be this way. The way I look at it, we can have a secret friendship. We could meet up! Get to know each other more." He said still smiling. It wasn't a fake smile, it was a smile that let her know he was serious. This would be fun. It'd be something knew. He'd never heard of good friends being from totally opposite houses. "You know, I think you're pretty neat." He said as he glanced at the sky. It was beginning to brighten up. More and more people were coming out from what he could see anyways. The castle stood mightily protecting 1000s upon 1000s of students and staff.

OOCOut of Character:
Sorry for such a late reply, my deepest apologies.

Rebecca listened to what Paul said and she couldn't believe it. She had made her first friend ever. It made her tummy tingle. She knew it was very un-Slytherin like but she couldn't help it, she had made a friend. "That would be amazing." She said, she couldn't wait to plan this all out. Where they would meet and when. She was sure this would be a fun thing to do, and she did want to get to know Paul better. That was when Paul said she was neat. She blushed slightly, "Well your pretty neat yourself." She smiled up at him, "Not many Gryffindors would be as nice to me as you have. That alone proves your special." She saw the sun finally come up above them, and people started to come out of the building. "We need to go." She said meekly it was sad but true, even though she now had a friend she wouldn't be caught dead with him.

OOCOut of Character:
Apology accepted, mine was kinda late as well. :)

"I totally understand. We should meet again? Somewhere else. More private." he stated.
He was smiling awaiting a perhaps goodbye.

OOCOut of Character:
sorry for super lame post

Rebecca nodded at what he said it was true, they could meet again. She was so happy for his friendship. "I'll sneak you a note in class on where and when." She smiled at him, she couldn't wait to get to know him better. She knew for once she was starting something good in her life.
