Fourth Years, Lesson Six

LESSON SIX
Now that he was feeling better again, Noel decided that it was time to return to teaching. He didn't know why he had become so unwell so suddenly, but thankfully, he was all better now, and right before exams too. Missing a class meant that he would need to scrap some things from the exam, though he was sure that his fourth-year class wouldn't particularly mind that. They'd be busy enough as it was.

''Good morning, everyone,'' the Professor said with a friendly smile, closing the door and moving to stand at the front of the classroom. '' For our final class of the semester, I would like you to do a writing exercise. I will not be grading it and you do not have to hand it in either, but it will be good practice nonetheless. So, let's activate those bright minds again and recall what we have learned about the Unforgivable Curses this semester.'' With a simple flick of his wand, the pile of parchments from his desk floated towards the students. The same things were written down on each of the parchments

Questionnair Lesson Six

1. In your opinion, which of the three Unforgivable Curses is the worst and why?
2. In most parts of the world, the punishment for using an Unforgivable Curse is imprisonment in Azkaban. Do you think this is justified or should the punishment be different?

3. Are there any spells (or other forms of magic) that you think should be considered unforgivable? Explain your reasoning.

Noel watched the students for a moment until he returned to sit behind his desk. ''Take as long as you need, you've got the entire lesson to work on it. Think carefully about your answers, and if you do want to discuss them with your neighbour, feel free to do so.'' And with that he let them concentrate on the parchments in front of them. He was curious the read their essays at the end of the class but was even more curious to read their opinions on these questions.

Roleplay the lesson.

You will receive extra credit for filling out the questionnaire, and additional extra credit if your student discusses their answers with their neighbour (or other characters)!

Please tag @Professor Noel Waldgrave if you want to interact with your student.

Morrie had really enjoyed this semester of Defense Against the Dark Arts which was saying a lot as she normally hated classes. She sat in her usual seat and got to work filling out the questions. She decided to be honest and give her true opinion. Not everyone would agree with her but she didn't care much. At the end of the lesson, she packed up her notes and left the classroom for the final time.
1. In your opinion, which of the three Unforgivable Curses is the worst and why? The Imperius Curse. The other two, at least you know what's happening to you but anything could happen with the Imperius curse
2. In most parts of the world, the punishment for using an Unforgivable Curse is imprisonment in Azkaban. Do you think this is justified or should the punishment be different? No I think it's a stupid over the top punishment. If someone points a wand at me first, I don’t see why I should rot in Azkaban for defending myself. It obviously is okay for teachers to cast these curses in lessons so there must be some leniency right? I think that the circumstances of the crime should be considered rather than the curse used.
3. Are there any spells (or other forms of magic) that you think should be considered unforgivable? Explain your reasoning. No magic is just magic, it’s what people do with that magic which makes it bad. You could say Incendio is bad because you could burn someone alive, but you could also not do that, so it depends on the crime.

Apolline walked into the defense against the dark arts classroom and took her spot in the room. She looked to the professor at the front of the room. She took the quiz or questionnaire as it was flown to her. She took the time to read it but it wasn’t too complicated - at least the questions weren’t, how she might answer did feel complicated. She wasn’t sure what to say for them, which curse to pick, which was worse, whether prison was enough. She answered them as best she could and then handed the finished sheet in when she was supposed to and then headed out of the room.

Kyousuke had enjoyed the class this year and hoped he'd achieve the ideal grade more than anything (he still remembered the one time he'd gotten an E and shuddered at the recollection). The questionaire was actually quite interesting, so Kyousuke got right into it. He enjoyed thinking about such things. After completing it and handing it in, the lesson drew to a close and Kyousuke set about on his way.

1. In your opinion, which of the three Unforgivable Curses is the worst and why?
The killing curse, because taking someone's life is robbing them of their future.
2. In most parts of the world, the punishment for using an Unforgivable Curse is imprisonment in Azkaban. Do you think this is justified or should the punishment be different?
I think Azkaban is potentially cruel, although I don't see a problem in imprisoning someone in a regular prison for the crime unless in exceptional circumstances.
3. Are there any spells (or other forms of magic) that you think should be considered unforgivable? Explain your reasoning.
There are certain curses that are probably close to crossing the line and that you should never use on another person but I don't know if they meet the same level as the unforgivable curses.

Jean Lancaster-Snow dropped a lot of his courses because he did not want to spend too much time on academics when he would not need them whatsoever for his future career in sports without actually playing it because Jean knew that he was not that great with flying. So, he got his things and left the Slytherin dorms to head to his next class. He was an average student, and it showed. At least he was not a poor student. Jean walked in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom for the last time this semester, and the last time with this professor. They would just have to do a writing exercise. Jean pulled out his quill, ink and parchment. It took him the whole time to finish his assignment. He turned it in, definitely understanding why these classes were not for the faint of heart.

Aroha knew this was the last lesson with this professor, and was feeling a bit sad about that. She didn't know what the upper years professor was like, but she hoped he was as good as this one. She took note of the questionaire, filling it out. It was actually food for thought, which despite appearances, Aroha enjoyed. She took her time, thinking over her answers before committing them to parchment. Once done, she actually did revise a little before thanking the professor on the way out.

1. In your opinion, which of the three Unforgivable Curses is the worst and why? Cruciatus, because it's the most cruel.
2. In most parts of the world, the punishment for using an Unforgivable Curse is imprisonment in Azkaban. Do you think this is justified or should the punishment be different? I don't believe in prisons but they're should be some sort of repercussion.
3. Are there any spells (or other forms of magic) that you think should be considered unforgivable? Explain your reasoning.
Maybe dangerous ones if you use them on people? Incendio is pretty bad to use on another person. Or love potions, since they technically take away free will similar to the imperius curse in a way.
