First Years, Lesson Four

"Hello! I hope you're all in a good mood because today we will be checking our pumpkins. Put on your gloves and workrobes, because you will need them. You will be harvesting your pumpkin. Also, grab your pruning shears. Follow me!" Trinahappily went out of the greenhouse, excited to see how everyone's pumpkins were getting along. SHe had her black, leather gloves on and the shears in her left hand and she hoped everyone else did too.

"Locate your pumpkin. All of them should be ready to take off the vine. Take out the pruning shears and have a firm grip." Trina demonstrated with her pumpkin. "Snip your pumpkin from its vine, like so. It may take a bit of strength." Professor Adelia easily snipped her from the vine. Her pumpkin was free and she just smiled at her students, proud of all their efforts so far as he watched everyone begin to get to work. Thankfully, everyone seemed to get it and, once she was sure everyone's pumpkins were off the vine, she retrieved her wand out of her pocket and spoke again.

"Now, we will be taking the pumpkins to the castle. We'll have to levitate them as they will be much too heavy to carry yourselves and I don’t want anyone getting hurt. Everyone must attempt to levitate their pumpkin. Whether or not you have learned this in Charms yet, the levitating charm is Wingaridium Leviosa." SHe made the students repeat the words correctly, and then practiced the swish and flick movement. "Cast the charm on the pumpkin, and we will be going off to the castle." Trina cast the charm on the pumpkin and levitated it a bit above the ground. "I'll follow you so we won't have any screw ups." Professor Adelia walked behind them, making sure there weren't any mistakes and that no pumpkins fell onto the ground. Once they got to the castle, they went inside and lowered their pumpkins down in the entrance hall. Trina had ordered a few house elves to meet them and take them away, which they did. Once they were done, they left to go back to the greenhouse.

Assignment: RP the lesson. At the end, tell the house elf what you want your pumpkin to be turned into. Include a picture for extra credit. Please also note, RPing your character simply lifting the pumpkin with their bare hands will get them an EE grade.[/font]

It was weird, not seeing Professor Carter as he stepped into the Greenhouse. He didn't even know who this lady was. Still, he had to follow her around for the day's tasks. He watched as she demonstrated how to harvest a pumpkin and Julian donned his gloves and workrobes and grabbed his pruning shears. It took some work to find his pumpkin - but he was quite satisfied with how it turned out. Well-formed and of modest size with a vibrant orange. He knelt beside the pumpkin and examined its vine carefully. The vine was tougher than expected but soon enough he'd managed to free his pumpkin using the shears. As the random professor explained the Levitation Charm, Julian paid close attention - the Ravenclaws didn't have Charms until the next semester after all, but he was familiar enough with the spell. It was a common enough spell in the household and he'd read about it after all. Now he would get to try it. He murmured the incantation under his breath, "Wingardium Leviosa," and practiced the movement with his wand before attempting the spell. His first try caused the pumpkin to wobble slightly, but after a minor adjustment, it floated smoothly just above the ground. He carefully maneuvered his levitating pumpkin alongside the others as they made their way to the castle. Once they reached the entrance hall, he lowered the pumpkin gently to the floor and stepped back as house elves began collecting the harvests.

Angelo's head tilted at the unfamiliar teacher standing in front of the class, but then he shrugged shortly after. Substitute teachers weren't exactly uncommon in his old school though normally, it was the other sections' teacher that would take over the class. He didn't know they had another Herbology teacher in the castle, but then again, he didn't exactly know much about this world and school either. He was just gonna ride with it. He was quite excited about harvesting the pumpkins today though. He quickly donned his gardening things and followed the teacher. He looked in awe at the sight of the vibrant pumpkins. He'd never actually seen this type of sight before. "Uy, hiiii," he said as he finally found his pumpkin. It was slightly smaller than some, but otherwise looked perfectly healthy. He mimicked the teacher and with a deep breath, positioned the shears around the vine and gave a strong snip. It took more effort than he’d anticipated, but with a satisfying snap, his pumpkin was free. He grinned. When they were told to levitate the pumpkins, Angelo was quite excited. They'd just learned the Levitating Charm in Charms class and he'd been practicing all the spells he'd learned since. He was confident he could do this. “Wingardium Leviosa!” with a swish and flick. The pumpkin wobbled slightly before lifting a few inches off the ground. Angelo let out a sigh of relief and a small cheer. Carefully, he guided the pumpkin to hover just above the ground and began making his way toward the castle, concentrating very, very, very hard. He'd almost tripped a couple of times, but his pumpkin remained steady at least. When they finally reached the entrance hall, Angelo gently lowered his pumpkin onto the ground, letting out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. He watched as the house elves - he didn't know what they were but they came to collect the pumpkins. One even asked what he wanted done with it he frowned. Were pumpkins the same as squash? Maybe they were. "Can you do pakbet? It's like a a mixed vegetables dish? You put ano... beans? And bagoong? Uh... fish thing?" he could see that the house elf was just as confused as he was. "You know what? I'll eat anyting. It's fine."

Daisuke adjusted his gloves and robes as he followed the substitute professor out of Greenhouse. He was maybe looking forward to seeing the progress his pumpkin made. Especially when he caught sight of the pumpkin patch filled with plump, colorful pumpkins. He located his pumpkin quickly - a round, bright orange that was slightly smaller but was perfect in Daisuke's opinion. After watching the professor harvest the pumpkin, Daisuke made an attempt. The demonstration had made it look easy but the vine was definitely resisting as he made to cut it. Gritting his teeth, he applied more force until finally, the pumpkin came free with a satisfying snip. He cradled the pumpkin for a moment before setting it on the ground. He'd already done the Levitation Charm in class he reminded himself. If he could do it in Charms, he could do it here. Taking his wand, he turned to his pumpkin, focused on it, and pointed his wand, "Wingardium Leviosa!" The pumpkin trembled slightly, then lifted a few inches off the ground. He waited until it was steady before walking carefully in a line with the other students. He didn't think he'd levitated something this long before and it was all he could do to keep his focus. He didn't want to drop his pumpkin and ruin it, he was sure he would cry. And so he was very, very relieved when they'd arrived at the Entrance Hall and he managed to land his pumpkin gently to the ground to be looked after by a house elf. That was certainly enough excitement for one day.

Carolina arrived to her Herbology lesson that day happy to spend more time learning about her favorite subject. It was a bit surprising not to see Professor Carter teach the lesson but regardless she was excited to harvest the pumpkin she had planted in her previous lesson, and after getting her gear she headed to where the pumpkins were planted. Carolina found her Pumpkin that had grown much bigger from last week stared at it in almost disbelief for a moment before she followed the professor's instructions and began to harvest it. When she had managed to cut through the vine she tapped her wand on the pumpkin in an attempt to levitate it. She tried the incantation of Wingardium Leviosa a few times, growing a little annoyed before she properly focused and managed to cast the charm effectively, watching as the pumpkin began to levitate from the dirt. She carefully walked to the castle with the pumpkin floating beside her, trying her best not to let it hit any other pumpkins or the stone fences or walls of the castle. Eventually with the rest of the class she reached the entrance hall and managed to gently touch her pumpkin on the floor for the house elves to retrieve. The lesson didn't involve as much actual herbology as the previous ones which was a bit disappointing, but Carolina still felt it had been worth it when she headed away to her next class of the day.
