While Karah was only going to be in Obsidian Harbour for an hour, maybe more, to pick up some vintage pieces from a witch who wanted more of a modern feel to her home Karah didn’t want to risk running into her ex-fiance looking as if she could be homeless so she had taken the time to put together an outfit and only a few swipes of mascara. The veela rarely wore makeup because she didn’t know what she was doing with it as during her years at Hogwarts she had so feared being picked on for dolling herself up and accused of looking for extra attention that she had never experimented with it. After slipping on her brightly coloured heels, Karah apparated from her apartment to the center of the harbour and began walking towards the house from which she would be picking up the vintage pieces. While she was a bit early still she hated to be late for anything and so she gave herself time in case she would get lost or Merlin forbid run into Ezra.

Although they had been separated for months now, it finally was real. Karah didn’t want to get back together with him but she missed having his companionship but that had been over far before they had decided to breakup and move into their own places. In the mix of this all she had looked for companionship in the wrong place and had snuck out early, knowing instantly that her choices were wrong. She was lonely but focused on work and cultivating new clients. She hoped, though, that it would ease her hurting to be so busy. So far it didn’t seem to.

Haskel had spent the weekend in the forest, he had been supposed to look after his son over the weekend, but in the end that had fallen apart when his son had gotten some muggle short term illness and he was left to just have the weekend to himself and he had taken full advantage of this. He had packed up all his things and left within the hour of finding out and this was him returning, looking refreshed, well-rested, with his cat sitting on his shoulders, he had a more dirtied appearance, but it was clear that he'd spent time in the forest rather than doing something else, or just being dirty because he didn't like washing, though there was always a familiar and warm feeling of dirt on his face. Currently he was walking through Obsidian Harbour intent on picking a few items before going back home, when all of a sudden as he was cleaning out his nails and not paying attention to where he was going, the man walked into someone, walked straight into them, pretty glad to have not fallen on the floor though his cat did, after muttering an apology the man quickly just set about locating his cat.

Once he had the feline creature in his arms he looked back at the person, "Sorry, didn't see you there," Haskel had this habit when he returned from a weekend adventure of hiking of forgetting that other people really existed in the world, when it was just him and his cat, Faunus, "Faunus get disorientated after apparating, so I had to get him first," he added as an explanation although it was more about the fact that he didn't entirely want to have to speak to this person he had walked into but given that he had walked into them, he knew he owed her at least an apology, a real apology.

Karah was deep within her own thoughts as she walked, so much so that she must not have noticed someone else walking towards her until they had bumped into one another. She gasped, completely startled, but then saw a cat had run off too. She had been about to apologize when the man had run off, which was when she looked down at her clothes. She was dirty from the impact so she took her wand out and viola, within a second, she was back to being pristine again. Pristine and stressed. She was about to continue walking, assuming that the man could get his cat without any help because cats were strange creatures. It was why she decided to get a half-Kneazle instead of just a cat. So temperamental were cats with strangers for the most part and Karah liked to entertain. The half-Veela looked back at the person she had bumped into and their cat, apologetically she smiled at them. She wasn't particularly keen to speak with what must be a homeless wizard. How ironic would that be? An interior decorator speaking with a homeless man? The thought was funny, so much so that she had to bite on her lip to control herself. Then she said, "No, it's my fault completely. I wasn't pay attention." She looked down at the cat, Faunus, and said, "Of course. My dog would be out of sorts for a few hours if anyone tried to apparate with her." The thought made her a little sad considering it had been her childhood dog who had passed years ago, she'd been at Hogwarts at the time which had made it that much more devastating but Karah was determined not to dwell on such sad thoughts and asked, "Is Faunus alright?" She had a thought to offer the man a few galleons so he could get a meal in as it was unclear how long ago he had eaten with him being homeless but to be polite she just stayed quiet on the matter until things were clearer.

Haskel stroked the his cat's face lightly and smiled down at him with a fond expression and then while the girl in front of him whom he'd bumped into continued speaking, trying to take the blame for what happened and while he would easily argue that it was in no way her fault and was his, the man knew this would be pointless, it would not end with anything other than just them going round in circles trying to decide who was the one at fault, and Haskel had no time for that. He allowed the cat to climb back up to rest on his shoulders, using the rucksack on his back to ensure he could actually lie, the man liked the familiar weight of the cat on his shoulder, his companion, his son loved Faunus, and Faunus loved his son, but Haskel took more trips with his cat than he did with his still young son with an over-protective mother. The man hadn't at all been paying attention to the woman, and had been about to walk away when she asked if Faunus was okay, and the man seemed to visibly realise he wasn't alone, the man had just zoned out so briefly and this had resulted in forgetting of the woman currently speaking to him,

"Faunus is alright," he replied a little startled, "He's a resilient creature, he'll just rest until we get home and then he'll be back to being himself," the man looked between the woman and the cat on his shoulders unsure what else he should say to her, if he should say anything else but didn't know if he should. Haskel's conversations with others didn't really cover much ground, he wasn't the talkative type, he always felt more at ease with conversation after spending time alone than when he hadn't been away for a while, usually because he was busy at work, but this was different, he didn't know what else to say, or if anything else was required of him, usually his conversations could revolve around his work, but he had nothing to say on that matter to this random person, he wondered if perhaps it would be beneficial to introduce himself to her.

Karah was startled when the man said he had a home. She even said, "Oh!" Her cheeks quickly burned red hot as she felt embarrassed and guilty for her assumption that this cat lover was homeless because he was dirty and smelly. He looked like just the type to get along with her childhood friend, Michael, now that she knew he wasn't some poor wizard. Unsure of what to say as she covered a cheek with her hand, in a foolish attempt at hiding her embarrassment although she knew that a person who walked around like he did probably wouldn't care. How could you? It made no sense to the designer. Forgetting that she hadn't actually spoken her earlier thoughts aloud she began nervously, "Sorry. I-" then paused. She looked over at him and said, calmly, "Sorry." There was a finality to that because she had realized that she hadn't actually voiced her suspicious which were a little stupid and unintentionally mean so she hoped it only looked as if she was apologizing for her clumsiness.

Woah late response I know! Sorry!

As he slowly petted the cat he heard the Oh, and then turned to look at the woman who looked to be very embarrassed, and Haskel was confused about why this could possibly be embarrassing, he didn't get it, and he looked himself over wondering if it was something about him that gave this reaction, he didn't seem to make the link between her reaction and the last words he'd just said, and was even more confused when the person apologised and he just didn't understand why she would feel the need to do that. Haskel looked at her with a quizzical glance but just ignored it all, "It's fine, it was my fault," he thought they were beyond apologising for things but he'd been out of civilisation all weekend perhaps he was just misunderstanding and instead he just flashed her as friendly a smile as he could manage and decided to leave it. He held out his hand to her, "I'm Haskel," the man was sure that she probably didn't really want to touch his dirty hand but he didn't blink at it, "I just went camping," he said which was a hope to explaining his hand and why it wasn't the cleanest.

Karah still felt terrible at her assumption even if the man clearly hadn't understood where her thoughts had taken her so she tried to smile it off while she berated herself internally for being stupid. She hated that she wasn't Ravenclaw material or even remotely intelligent as far as she could tell. In the beginning of her relationship with Ezra he said everything to the contrary but at the end he had actually called her stupid, he fed into her own self hatred which was so rampant even at twenty-five and free of her childhood bullies. It had been one of the final straws before she had at least gotten some sensibility. As he smiled, she returned it and noticed how different he looked with a smile on his dirty face. How he look kind and warm instead of someone who might frighten her normally. As he held out his hand she looked down and debated for what felt like too long although it was only a matter of seconds. "Karah," she introduced, finally deciding to shake his hand and then felt a bit of relief when he told her he was camping. "I thought that was mostly muggles who did that," she commented. Karah never much liked being dirty and as you'd expect, she loved the comforts of home so camping was never even in her prospects. It was just her assumption that most other wizards felt similarly to her on that because they could make life easier - even in tents you need not truly camp thanks to a few charms.

Gosh sorry I thought I replied!

Haskel didn't mind any assumptions that a person might've made about him, he was content with his life and found it completely unnecessary to think about what others thought of him, though he'd always fairly independent in that way, just in amongst the crowd but still pretty separate from most really. The man was just easily calm and at ease with this woman in front of him, he gave her a small smile as she took his hand and he just took his hand back, wiping it slightly on the jumper that he was wearing and then shrugged at her, "I don't know many magical people who go camping, but I don't see why we can't, if any with magic we're better equipped for it," he replied with a small shrug, he thought that muggles were a little silly and as wizards and witches they were better equipped to deal with the problems which might occur in the wilderness. Th man gave the woman a small shrug, and then motioned away from her, "I was going to grab some coffee before going home, you are welcome to join if you want to," he told her, since despite the somewhat lagging conversation that due to the circumstance, Haskel had errands to run and if it so happened that this woman had nothing to do and wanted to join him for those things he wouldn't mind in the slightest and he didn't think the cat snoozing on his shoulders would either.

Karah nodded, agreeing with Haskel's point. Clearly they would be able to fend off wild life a bit easier than juggles would but she always assumed the point of camping was to be without all the comforts of home. That's what Ezra had made it seem like when he'd explained it. Still she was hardly the type of person to go without a comfortable life. While she wasn't a vain person, she sure appreciated all the things she used on a daily basis. As he invited her for coffee, the witch thought for a brief second. She was still very early for her appointment and he seemed nice. Even if she wasn't attracted to a scraggly looking person the truth was that she had been avoiding non-business interactions with the opposite sex. Her friends insisted it was time that she took the plunge and put herself out of the market. Well, Karah wasn't a plunging type of person but it wouldn't hurt to stick a toe in the water. Besides coffee was innocent, one could have coffee with their Great Aunt from out of town and that would be it. "Um... Sure. I have some time before my meeting." She smiled at him uncertainly.

Haskel was pleased when the woman, Karah, agreed to coffee with him, she seemed a little strange but he didn't much care, the man just began walking in the direction of the coffee shop he usually went to that didn't mind when he brought his cat. The man walked the short distance, "It's not far," he told her, and then thought to the fact that she said that she was going to a meeting, "What do you do?" the man asked with a clear interest in what she was doing, and then held open the door to the coffee shop for her, before moving his bag to his front and taking the cat in his arm and, after a little struggle, he managed to find his wallet and then smiled at woman, "What do you drink?" he asked as he placed down the bag at a table, and then motioned to it with a small expression, "Can you hold Faunus while I go order," he asked holding out the cat to the woman hoping that she wouldn't mind that, Haskel always liked speaking to people after he was away, it was a good way to just readjust although he much preferred to be away from the world, in the wilderness away from people but he couldn't with his job, and all the other duties that he had, so whenever he spent the weekend away upon immediately returning he always looked to talk to someone, this woman just had the bad luck to run into him.
