Each bus ride to school took half an hour, and snow days were commonplace in winter. Upon discovering his magical abilities, Enoch was enrolled in an American Wizarding academy, paid for through working odd jobs and a monetary grant. He did fairly well in school, excelling most in hands-on subjects. After his fifth year, the Altmyers were struggling financially, thus forcing Enoch to return home and continue his studies via correspondence. Around the end of his sixth year, with only one remaining until graduation, his parents committed a serious crime and were taken into custody. As there was no one else to support the family, and with the possibility of his sibling being put in foster care, Enoch dropped out of school to focus on work and become a legal adult.

Enoch was recently recruited to a quidditch team in Massachusetts, the Fitchburg Finches. He gladly took the position of seeker, though he had experience playing as a beater as well. The Finches were Enoch's dream team to join, mainly because of Massachusetts' closeness from his home in Pennsylvania, meaning there were no time zone changes or any need to relocate overseas. He had been a fan of the team for many years, watching them win the US Cup seven times. Enoch lives in his family's home with two younger siblings. Their location is rural, with a half-hour back road drive to the center of town, where the shops, school and hospital are located. The house is a two-storey, three-bedroom, 1970s farmhouse by the road, with an open field, barn, creek and woods, covering five acres of land in total.

This is due in part to his upbringing, as the oldest child of parents who brought him up to expect and accept many responsibilities. When he isn't worrying family and jobs that need to be done, Enoch is usually a gregarious, amiable person, and enjoys spending his time with his friends. He's very loyal in that he tends to stick with those he knows, rarely venturing outside of his comfort zone to meet people he wouldn't usually. Enoch is the son of two Muggle parents - Caleb Altmyer and Susannah Altmyer (nee Davis). Cal and Sue are currently serving time in prison for an armed robbery they committed, with Cal's charges also including voluntary manslaughter (more information in the "History" section). Nowadays, Enoch refuses to associate with either of them, always lingering in the corner whenever he has to take Mattie and Toby to visit. Even before the crime, Caleb and Susannah were never the most nurturing of parents. Cal was a strict and distant father, not opposed to hitting any of his children, though he was hardest on Enoch. He was very opinionated and harsh, but could become the loudest, most jovial man once you got a few drinks into him. He worked as a coal miner in his younger years, but took to plumbing after the birth of his daughter.
Sue was a housewife, spending most of her days cooking and cleaning and tending to her children. She was never a very happy, optimistic woman; more impassive about her life, which felt dull and routine. The pair were closest to each other, harking back to the days of their courtship. Enoch Eli Altmyer was born on May 8th, 2010. He lived in Pennsylvania, USA, the son of a coal miner (later a plumber) and a housewife. His childhood was idyllic for the most part, filled with days spent swimming in the creek or climbing trees with friends. He attended a nearby school, and first displayed magical ability at the age of six, when classmates he disliked began to spontaneously break out in chickenpox. Enoch was a bit of a class clown, but still achieved fairly good marks. He had a small circle of friends, primarily made up of boys like himself - girls were still gross at this point. He often felt different to his peers, but was not much of a leader or sore thumb. He was the type of child to blend in with others; never a main participant in conversation, more of a listener. An area in which he did excel was football, which he considered a main hobby until he began life as a Wizard.

At the age of eleven, Enoch received an acceptance letter to an American Wizarding school. Most of his family were shocked and suspicious, but his sister, nine years old at the time, encouraged him to attend. An interest in magic came on quickly and strongly, and the first year did surprisingly well in his classes for a Muggleborn. He disliked the writing required for classes such as History of Magic, but excelled in practical subjects. He joined the sports, arts and dueling clubs, as well as the quidditch team in his second year. Enoch started off as a beater, as he possessed the combativeness necessary, though he soon took up the position of seeker and later became a junior captain. He looked poised to become a future prefect. However, soon after completing his OWLs in year five, Enoch was pulled out of the school and return home. Money was tight, and the Altmyers couldn't afford for their son to attend boarding school. He continued via correspondence, and stayed in touch with classmates through owl.
Towards the end of his sixth year, the family's financial problems got worse, with Enoch having to take a part-time job at a restaurant in town, while still completing school work at home. One night, he received a phone call informing him of a crime that his parents had just been arrested for. Caleb and Susannah had attempted to rob the town's grocery store at gunpoint. Caleb had shot and killed a cashier who'd tried to step in. Though Enoch, Mattea and Tobias had been completely in the dark, it turned out that their parents had been desperately planning the crime for some months. They were sentenced with armed robbery, as well as the more serious charge of voluntary manslaughter on his father's side. Newly seventeen, Enoch was left to pick up the pieces of his family as a legal adult, or see his siblings be taken into foster care. He dropped out of school to work full time, never getting the chance to complete his seventh year of studies.

After six months of a parentless household, Enoch was contacted by a quidditch scout and invited to try out for a place on the team. Specifically, none other than his favorite, the Fitchburg Finches. He was soon signed on as the team's new seeker, and spent the remainder of 2028 in training programs in preparation for his professional debut. Luckily for Enoch, the Finches were located in the nearby state of Massachusetts. This meant that not only would he get to play for his own country, but he would be able to apparate to work daily, and not have to worry about time zone changes, or leaving home for prolonged periods of time. While the local notoriety of his parents waned, Enoch still found himself the brunt of funny looks and hushed whispers. The Magical world was a welcome escape, at least during work hours. At present, he has begun his new role as a quidditch player, and is siblings are still at Muggle school. He would never admit it, but Enoch is quite proud of the choices he's made. Many of the family's problems were the fault of his parents, and quite frankly, he's glad to see them gone. Things are finally looking up.
