[Name Etymology]
Elio Variation on the name Elliot. All Zephyr children are named with four letters, to represent the four points on a compass. No matter where a Zephyr is in the world, they will never be on their own.
Luuk Variation on the name Luke.
Zephyr Zephyr is an anicent Greek word for "west wind". When the warm west winds came, spring was near, and so Zephyr was often depicted as the messenger of spring.

Some Zephyrs are named after previous family members, but it is unknown whether there is another Elio in the family.​

He is proud of his name and has never had any issues with it. Asides from his French cousins he does not know any other Zephyr family members that are magical. However, in his sixth year *he will* find out about Acre and Land Zephyr, and begin to explore his family tree further. He is also a distant relation to Aion Zephyr, but is currently unaware of his existence. ​

Elio was born one day before his due date, arriving in the early hours of New Years Day. His parents had been at home, and had organised for a home birth, but his mum was in labour for just 38 minutes, and had been born for over an hour by the time the midwife actually made an appearance. His parents still live in the same house today. There were no complications with his birth, and he spent the first two days of his life at hospital being checked over before he was allowed to return home. ​

Half Blood. Elio's mum is a muggle born whereas his dad is a pure blood. He feels indifferent towards his blood type, and doesn't believe this has had an influence on him as a person, with the exception of his dad trying to get to grips with his mums baffling music choices from her own upbringing.​

Kara Zephyr 27 years older than Elio. Kara was born in Belgium, Europe, for the first few years of her life. When she received her letter at 11, her parents considered it to be a joke and refused to sent their daughter away on a train to Scotland. As a result, she attended a muggle secondary school until she was nearly 14 years old. At this point, Kara had managed to develop a number of things she couldn't explain, and was struggling to be able to hide. After a few years of this, her parents were witness to Kara levitating the couch in the living room, and reluctantly sent her to Hogwarts Scotland for her fourth year and was sorted into Gryffindor. She graduated at 18 with four NEWTs, including with Potions, Charms, COMC and Astronomy, and now works to support the transfer of students to other schools.​

Leon Zephyr 26 years older than Elio. Leon on the other hand had grown up around magic, and so he had a reasonably easy transition when he started at Hogwarts Scotland, sorted into Hufflepuff. He was a year below Kara while at school, and was vaguely aware of her when she appeared while Leon was in his third year. It wasn't until later on in his life that they reunited, after Leon found her name as the author of an article surrounding experimental charms. They reconnected while in New Zealand, and fell in love with both one another and their surroundings. When Kara fell pregnant, Leon took her back to his hometown in the Netherlands, where she gave birth to Elio and a year later, Isla. The couple married two years after the birth of their daughter. Leon now works as a music distributor around Europe.​

[Thoughts]​

When Elio found out he was going to learn how to get his abilities under control, he didn't really appreciate what this meant. He was excited to leave Amsterdam and start learning all he could of magic, but in the process he wanted to have as much fun as he possibly could. This mentality overran his first and second year, to the point where his grades were so low that his parents pulled him out of the school, and moved him to Hogwarts Scotland (More info under Education). Now that he is back in New Zealand, he is more grateful for the opportunity, and has pulled back his efforts to balance out his social life and his grades, and is working on becoming a photographer. ​

Elio has a very large social circle, including the majority of students in his own year, and some others throughout the school. He puts this down to being very outgoing, willing to get involved with other people, and keeping an open mind. Some of his best friends include Rowan Baros, Avaria Lockwood, Vader Hume, Alice Holland, Caspian Lavish, Ilija Olaf, Elsie Baros, Chrysander Kaster, Isabelle Walden and Abian Hunter.​

[Relationship with friends]​

Elio is always very outgoing, but with a particular focus on females. This has not been a conscious choice, but instead Elio finds it easier to interact with females as he feels more relaxed and open. Although this doesn't apply to everyone he knows, he generally finds it easier to talk in depth to his female friends, and sometimes when he is talking to his male friends Elio can feel slight pressure to say the right thing. There are not many people that Elio doesn't get along with, although he cannot stand bullies, and as a result a few enemies that stem from those that hurt his friends.​

[Best Friends]​

Rowan Baros & Avaria Lockwood Avaria was one of Elio's first friends when joining Hogwarts, and the pair instantly became close, attending various meetings and introductory sessions together. Elio felt as though Ava's energy was easy to bounce off, and it only spurred his own on more. Over the years, Elio and Ava don't always spend a lot of time together as they are in separate houses, but they do still hang out and enjoy the time when they do. Elio was one of Ava's guests to her cousins engagement party along with Vader Hume, and was the person he turned to when he was unsure about his feelings for Rowan. Elio didn't really speak to Rowan Baros until they were in their fourth year, despite sharing a house. That being said, as soon as they worked together in Astronomy class they very quickly became inseparable. For the first five months of their friendship, they formed a strong connection and had many inside references to one another. Things after this time did become a little more complicated, but Elio still considers Rowan to be his best friend, and would go so far as to say she was his other half as he feels as though they know each other so well.​

*Heteroromantic Homosexual Heteroromantic means that Elio is romantically attracted to those of the opposite gender. He finds it very easy to talk to females, and has very deep relationships with them, which he doesn't find to be something he either wants nor is able to have with males. His relationship with males is primarily physical. While Elio does have a handful of male friends, these are often lighthearted relationships, and while he has tried to form emotional bonds with males he finds this incredibly difficult. He is not physically attracted to females, and he is not romantically attracted to males. That being said, this is thrown an additional curve ball by the fact he is attracted to intimacy, whether that be with a male or female, within the above considerations. He would not consider himself Demisexual as the intimacy that attracts him is from a physical act itself, rather than the relationship between them.​

[First Kiss]​

Rowan Baros In his fourth year, Elio and Rowan went to the Valentines ball as friends. Elio wasn't aware at the time that Rowan felt more strongly about them than just friends, and believed that she knew he was gay. She admitted her feelings for him by kissing Elio in the Great Hall, whereby he revealed his sexual orientation. ​

[First Love]​

Rowan Baros After the kiss, Rowan left Elio in the Great Hall, and didn't speak to him for the next seven months as she was too humiliated to face him. During this time, Elio found himself incredibly lonely, and despite his close circle of friends he still felt as though something was missing. At the beginning of his fifth year, Elio and Rowan were in a position to speak again and at that point Elio felt as though he needed to put up defensive walls in order to not get hurt again. Rowan admitted that she was still in love with him, and Elio believed that they couldn't be friends in the traditional sense while Rowan continued to see him in a romantic and physical light. It wasn't until a few days later that Elio realised that the reason he'd been so empty without her, was that they were on the same path and he did reciprocate her feelings, but because he is physically attracted to males, he didn't see this coming. After this realisation, Elio and Rowan have grown stronger, although it's not always easy to explain to others how their relationships works.​

[First Time]​

Chrysander Kaster Elio's first time was with Chrys. Elio had only spoken to Chrys on a couple of occasions before this, but as soon as they started to talk they clicked, and Elio hadn't been able to take his mind off him since. At the time he was also aware that he was in love with Rowan, and so he often feels guilty and confused about the way he feels about Chrys, although he knows that what they have is physical rather than emotional. He tries for the most part now not to focus on Chrys too much because he can distract him incredibly easily, and Elio has a hard time resisting him if he makes a move. There's no strings attached to their friendship which he is sure both parties are comfortable with, although he would like to know more about the Hufflepuff outside of their interactions.​

[Opinion on romantic relationships]​

When Elio was younger, he had always been very assured of his own orientation, and did very little to hide this as he felt no need to and was fortunate enough to be able to feel open about it. While at school he has always been open about himself, and prefers the friendly company of girls over boys, although this is not exclusive. It wasn't until he befriended Rowan that he was questioning this aspect of him, and now that he has come to terms with the fact he is actually a Heteroromantic Homosexual, he finds this to be both relieving and more confusing. On the one hand he is glad that he can make sense of what is going on his head and his heart, but this also poses a number of complications, especially for future relationships. Even though Elio is in love with Rowan and vice versa, Elio considers himself to be single. This is because while he is emotionally bound to Rowan and will prioritise her above anyone else, he is also still attracted to males and doesn't want to put limits on either his own or Rowan's future opportunities. Elio finds it incredibly hard to be in a gay relationship, primarily due to his inability to have an emotional attachment. Just before he realised his orientation, he was in a relationship with Marco Mariani. Elio felt too uncomfortable knowing that he wasn't going to be able to be there emotionally for Marco given his love for Rowan, and knows that with any future relationships he will have to make it clear that Rowan is a huge part of his life. At this moment however he's not sure whether he could be in a future relationship, and he broke it off with Marco after just a few weeks together. ​

Capricorn is a sign that represents time and responsibility, and its representatives are traditional and often very serious by nature. These individuals possess an inner state of independence that enables significant progress both in their personal and professional lives. Belonging to the element of Earth , like Taurus and Virgo, this is the last sign in the trio of practicality and grounding. Not only do they focus on the material world, but they have the ability to use the most out of it. [Strengths Explained]
[Bold] (Adjective) not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring: a bold hero,

Elio has never considered danger to be something that would ever hold him back. He sees things from a bigger perspective and would rather take risks to get him where he wants to be, rather than wait to see what happens without his influence. An example of this is that he is acrophobic, and so he has a fear of heights, however he loves to climb and explore and will often forget his own fear, taking on challenges and getting himself into situations that he doesn't accept may effect him negatively later on. He would rather try and push through those fears and reach something that he enjoys rather than be held back by any "what if's." Elio partially puts this down to his optimistic attitude, where he will always the expect the best to come out of a situation, ​

[Artistic] (Adjective) describes people who are creative or creations called "art."

When Elio was very young, his dad introduced him to his taste in music and he spent a lot of his childhood under the influence of a variety of artists. Music ended up influencing Elio's sister Isla more than it did Elio, however it was because of this that Elio ended up picking an interest in photography. In a similar way that music captures an emotion, Elio saw this as a visual in his head while listening to the songs. When he was eight he was gifted a camera by a family friend, and as a child Elio liked to capture moments just for fun. It wasn't until he started at school he put this down to capturing moments so that they could be saved and looked back on in the future. In his first and second year, Elio was part of the Accio! team that made the school yearbook, although he left this when he transferred to Hogwarts Scotland. He still decided to keep with his photography though, and continues to capture photos that he feels captures a moment or expression; those where his subjects don't usually realise that he's taking photos, because he feels as though it's more natural to capture moments this way rather than forcing them to appear in a certain way. If he ever had the chance to work with Accio! again, he would probably turn this down as he enjoys working on his own projects now, and feels like the photos taken for the year book are more commercial than the photos he prefers to take. ​

[Outgoing] (Adjective) someone with a friendly, easy personality. Your outgoing friend might not understand how hard it is for shy people to speak in front of an audience.

Elio has never felt like he's needed to hide himself or his opinions, and he's been lucky enough to never feel as though he's needed to change. His friends and family have always been supportive of him and this has helped him be as confident as he is now. He is very sure of himself, and even if others are shy in a situation, Elio is likely to do what he can to break any tension or to get the ball rolling on events. Sometimes Elio will show his friendship in physical affection which for the most part hasn't been an issue. He is aware though of the reactions of this and will adjust accordingly. There are also times when he is with Rowan, he won't want to be as affectionate to his friends as usual because he feels as though this will make their own relationship more strained. ​

[Optimistic] (Adjective) An optimistic person thinks the best possible thing will happen, and hopes for it even if it's not likely.

Elio has always been very optimistic, and this stems from the family he was brought up in. Things in the household were very relaxed, and he had a lot of musical influence growing up that he was introduced to by his dad. Even when things are hard, Elio tries his best to see things long term, and likes the idea of believing that when something goes wrong, it's only temporary. It's a bad day, not a bad life. He tries not to focus on the bad things, as they're bound to happen. Instead he will do everything he can to help himself and his friends see the good side of a situation. When Elio is struggling the most, he will tend to resolve back into his own projects which he believe will be able to remind people of the goodness in their lives.​

[Laid-Back] (Adjective) someone or something that is casual, calm and often unpretentious. An example of a laid back person is one who takes things in stride and who doesn't get stressed.

For the most part Elio is incredibly laid-back in situations. He doesn't think it's worth getting too stressed about something as it will always have a way of resolving itself. In his third year he spent a long time trying to get back to New Zealand, and while this is currently the lowest period of his life he still wouldn't refer to it as stressful, as he was just doing what needed to be done. He likes to observe his surroundings, as he likes to take natural shots for his photography to capture real life moments of joy, and so it's important to him to reflect that. ​

[Weaknesses Explained]
[Forgetful] (Adjective) someone who can be absentminded. When you're forgetful, things tend to slip your mind.

On occasion Elio can be incredibly forgetful. He doesn't mean to be but this can be both things in his school life, regarding his friends, or regarding his own activities. He hopes that those closest to him especially realise that this is nothing personal, although sometimes he does feel incredibly guilty because he forgets a relatively simple thing, and he doesn't want his friends to think that he doesn't care about them. There's not a huge amount Elio can do about this, but he does try to make up for it in cuddles (professor excluded).​

[Vain] (Adjective) having or showing an excessively high opinion of one's appearance, abilities, or worth.

Elio knows he's hot. He's always been very aware of his appearance, making the most of it and using it on occasion to attract someone he wants to spend more time with. Sometimes he can spend a little too much time making sure that he is looks good, because he feels as though it's important to put on a good front. It's not known where he gets this from, but considering he lives with a camera round his neck it may be that he wants to looks his best at all times in the case of him having his own photo taken. When he was younger especially, it wouldn't be uncommon for him to be running late for school because he was too busy perfecting his hair. He also spends way too much money than he needs to on his clothes, but likes to make sure that things fit him the best they can. ​

[Underachiever] (Adjective) a person who fails to achieve his or her potential or does not do as well as expected. Of particular interest is academic underachievement.

Elio has never been very good at being book smart and often struggles to relay information that holds in his mind long enough for it to be useful. In his first and second year, his grades were so bad that his parents transferred him to Hogwarts Scotland in the hopes that he would perform better. This took a turn however, and he ended up leaving with Dreadful Trolls, although this was intentional as he did his best to get himself expelled. Once he was back in New Zealand, Elio picked up his grades and found a few subjects he began to actually enjoy. He still struggles, but this is something that he is working on as he realises its importance for later on in his life, and he's proud of how far he's come throughout his education. ​

Elio can find it hard to be sympathetic because he jumps over this emotion entirely, trying to find a fix or a resolution to a problem. This is unintentional, but sometimes he doesn't let some people express what they're feeling completely before trying to help them, which can often lead to misunderstandings or feeling as though he isn't listening to them. ​

[Lifetime Goals]​

Elio has never really had a specific end goal or ambition that he's been working towards. That being said, he knows what he considers to be the biggest priority in his life and that is for other people to be happy. He loves his photography work because he finds that he can capture moments and memories that aren't going to change, and can be saved to look back on. Additionally he is of the notion that everyone should have fun and do what they want to do when they want to do it, as opposed to getting too stressed over what may be in the future. He knows that one day he would love to travel, and maybe one day he will have a family of his own, but Elio is content to know at the moment that he is putting a smile on someone else's face. He will do this even if it puts him in a worse off position, and his favourite thing is seeing all his friends happy together.​

[Biggest Fears]​

Elio's biggest fear is being alone. When he has had times in the past of being alone he feels as though he has no potential. His aims to live in a way that helps others and makes them happy, so being alone would mean that Elio is stagnant. He also fears anything happening to Rowan, as she is the person closest to him and he would give up anything to make sure that she is okay.​

[Inspiration]​

The biggest inspiration for Elio is definitely the people around him, although this is closely followed by music. His parents initial inspired him to find his own interests, helping him explore his options and supporting him to try new things. His friends at school also play a big part in this as they're the reason he has found himself, and what he wants to do. Rowan has made him a better person that he was before he got to know to her, both with himself and with his work as she'd opened his eyes to new possibilities, and shown him a side of himself that he wasn't sure even existed.​

Cancer Constellation Elio's first tattoo was the constellation of stars for Cancer, which is Rowan's star sign. She also has his star sign on her her wrist, and this one is on the outside of his left wrist.​

Compass A compass has always been a strong symbol for a Zephyr, as the meaning behind their family name is that wherever they are in the world they will always be together. Additionally the words on this tattoo are especially relevant to Elio who had to step away from his situation with Rowan in order to figure out what he needed in his fifth year. This is on his right shoulder.​

Camera As many know, Elio loves to take photos and so this one is a combination of his favourite things. The sky in the lens is also relevant to his relationship with Rowan because the pair met in Astronomy lessons. This is on his right forearm.​

Blue bird on a Rowan branch After Elsie's death, Elio wanted to get something to symbolise the memory of one of his best friends and Rowan's twin sister. He chose a a blue bird for the former Ravenclaw, sitting in a Rowan branch. This is on his inner left bicep. ​

Singing Elio doesn't often sing around many people, but he has grown up with a lot of musical influences in his life and is a very open singer around his family in Amsterdam.

[Future Career]

Photographer Elio wants to be a photographer when he graduates because he feels like this is where his hobbies and skills lie. He has enjoyed working with photography since his first year and wants to continue this, pursing a freelance photography career when he's older. He will aim to travel as much as he can early on. Asides from that he doesn't have a particularly set plan and is just happy to see what happens.​

[What is your real, birth name? what name do you use?]​

“My name is Elio Luuk Zephyr. I use this name, because it is my name. Obviously most people don't throw the middle name in there when they talk to me, but I've been referred to by both Elio and Zephyr all the time. It's traditional for Zephyr kids to get names that are four letters, like the four directions of a compass, so my parents picked that.”​

[Do you have a nickname? What is it, and where did you get it?]​

"I mean I have variations of my name but nothing that's a stand alone. You've got El, Elly, or Ellllliiiiiooooooooo if you're Rowan, and then yeah other's might call me Zephyr. Or babe. Don't think I need to explain how I got that last one."​

[What's your real birth date?]​

"My real birth date is the 1st January 2035, I am a New Year's gift!! My fake birthday is the 18th of June though if anyone's counting, and wishes to present me with mid year cake. No nuts though, don't put nuts in the cake."​

[What one word best describes you?]​

"Just one? Oh god. I'd go confident because that can mean I can be confident about my looks or personality or it means I can talk to people, I don't know, I'm pretty outgoing, but I say confident too because even if I'm not I like to act like I am or be optimistic enough to convince other people. I want other people to feel confident about themselves too so it's not all about me. Unfortunately. No no I'm joking, it's true. I try and spread confidence as well as exuberate it."​

[What is your most prized possession? Why do you value it so much?]​

"I think my photos have to be up there because they capture memories so they're essentially priceless. I'm never gonna be able to get those times back so that's important to me. I also have the worst memory so looking at these is always a nice surprise because it reminds me of the things I've been through. I also have a blanket which is some super sentimental sh!t right there, but it means a lot between Rowan and I.”​

[What do you bring with you everywhere you go?]​

“My camera. I try and take photos when people don't realise it so that it captures the essence of a situation instead of a planned shot, so having it on me all the time is important because anything could happen.”​

[What's the most useful thing you own?]​

“Okay so obviously this isn't something I own, but I'd have to say actually Rowan is the most useful "thing" in my life. I am awful at so many things and she knows me well enough to pull me back on the right path if I'm straying too much, and even day to day I think I'd be lost without her. I definitely can get a bit carried away and the number of times I'd probably have gotten myself stranded or in trouble.. well it's not a probability, it's a guarantee, I'd be screwed more often than not.”​

[What's your good luck charm?]​

“Rowan.”​

[What do you like about yourself?]​

“There's the obvious stuff, how I look for the most part, I like a lot of my personality, and how I can interact with other people. But then I also really like how I've come to adapt over the years too. I think third year was the first time it really happened, I got transferred to Hogwarts Scotland which was horrific, honestly, I hated who I was when I was there because I was trying to get myself expelled to come back to New Zealand. I did some stuff that I don't even talk to Ro about at that time, and there's nothing there I'm proud of, but I do like that I didn't just sit back and accept the situation for what it was and instead I did something about it. I like to prove people wrong and get involved and I like that I managed to turn my whole education around really for one thing."​

[What don't you like about yourself?]​

“Erm, I'm happy to be around loads of people and I know how to talk to them, but I do wish I could read them better. I feel like I can overlook a lot of what other people are going through or not take it seriously enough. I also hate that I have a fear of heights but the last time I did something about it was the last conversation I ever had with Elsie so I sort of associate it with her now too which makes it harder to face. I think Ro wants to get me to do some adrenaline building.. things.. which I'm not looking forward to but she doesn't know about the chat I had with Els.”​

[What's the biggest realisation you had about yourself?]​

“I have two I think. The first was realising I'm not as clear about who I'm attracted to as I was when I was younger. Growing up I thought I was gay, but it's way more complicated than that and I don't even know how to explain it half the time. The second was something that Chrys told me that sort of stuck in my head. After Elsie died, none of us were in a great place really and I guess you could say I had a lot of trouble with erm, guilt I guess, I spent a lot of time feeling as though I wasn't able to do anything for myself. Anyway, just the reminder that taking time for me was crucial because it wasn't something I'd actively considered to be important before, and I don't think I would be who I am now if I hadn't taken that time out." ​

[What do you need help with most often?]​

“I can get pretty carried away. I am very much driven more by my mood and how I feel rather than thinking things through and sometimes I need a wake up call to be reminded not to do something stupid.”​

[What's something nobody knows about you?]​

“Heh.. erm. I have this tiny scar on the side of my right hand, it looks like I've been stabbed with a pencil at some point and that's what I tell people, but nobody knows how I really got it and I don't plan on telling them either. Oh and when I was about.. nine? I accidentally sold one of my dad's records in a yard sale but cut out and painted some card to put in it's place and I don't think he's realised it's missing yet.”​

[Appearance]​

[What do you look like? Be as descriptive as possible]​

"Okay, well I'm just over 6 feet tall. Honestly not quite sure on the specifics because once I got to that height I didn't want to rub it in Rowan's face, she is tinnnny. I've got brown hair, brown eyes, glasses. I had quite strong arm muscles especially but I think that's because I climb quite a lot, always have. They're definitely my biggest muscles. Think they're Rowan's favourite too."​

[How do you dress most of the time?]​

"Black skinny jeans, t-shirt, sometimes I'll throw on a second shirt over the top or wear hoodies if it's cold. Love layers on the top but yeah always skinny jeans. If I can't be arsed though then sweats and a shirt work just fine."​

[How do you 'dress up'?]​

"Roll those sleeves up baby! I cannot tell you the number of times I've had compliments on my outfit when I've been wearing the same damn thing just with the sleeves rolled up. Change the shoes out for something a lil' shiny and boom, you're good to go!"​

[How do you 'dress down'?]​

"Sweats and a shirt! Forgo the shirt on some occasions though."​

[If you didn't care at all what people thought of you, what would you wear?]​

"I'd probably still wear what I already do because I wear what I think I look good in, but I also look good for myself as well as other people. I know what works for me."​

[Do you care about fashion?]​

"Only to the extent of being aware enough of the industry to know what I'm representing. It doesn't really effect what I wear so much, although I have a couple of designer outfits it's more because I like that designer or what it means. Each to their own though, just rock whatever if it's your style and own it."​

"Does art help society?"​

[What is the most embarrassing piece of clothing you own?]​

"I have some trousers, they're basically pyjamas but they have tiny cameras on them. My parents gave them to be, super comfortable but I've only ever worn them out the dorms once. And that was an accident."​

"Depends who I'm sleeping with."​
