Wood: Spruce is a difficult wand to wield, as it often wants to attempt its own magic, but with a determined and skilled owner it is a reliable and excellent helper.

Doyle loves a lot of things: books, movies, video games, basically anything that has a good story. He also likes board games and card games, especially cards and has developed a pretty impressive shuffling technique. Recently he's been very into music too and collects any CD, cassette tape, or vinyl record he can find for cheap. Which leads him to fixing up old CD/cassette players to actually listen to them. For his last birthday his dad got him a used electric guitar that he's been using to teach himself his favorite songs. Doyle loves to do the things he likes in his own space because he feels like its where he can just be himself. He likes his friends but sometimes he feels like he has to pretend to be like them, which makes more sense now that he knows he's magical. As much as he loves his alone time he likes spending quality time with people he likes and feels comfortable with. He can be shy but never seems to have much trouble making friends with his easy going and friendly personality.

Doyle was born to muggle parents who were both in their early 20's and who broke up not long after he was born. They were never married but the separation was still messy and he ended up in sole custody of his father. When he was only a few months old they moved back to the small town his father grew up in to live with his grandfather. Ever since he has had a humble but stable upbringing in the small house they share. Doyle only sees his mother occasionally around holidays or his birthday. His relationship with her isn’t great but he tries not to dwell on it.
His dad and grandfather do their best to make sure Doyle has never really felt there’s been an absence in his life, and together they run a convenience store and work pretty long hours, meaning Doyle has spent many long hours at the shop too. So he got very good at keeping himself entertained from an early age, usually reading books, playing video games, or watching whatever shows he could on the grainy TV they kept behind the counter. With his grandfather he got very good at playing all kinds of card games, his favorite was playing poker while using chocolate to bet with. Both Doyle’s father and grandfather are quite masculine guys yet he has ended up on the scrawny side. While sometimes he feels out of place for wanting to play guitar instead of sports, his family is always supportive.
Overall he grew up a pretty normal kid. While he isn’t the most outgoing person he still has a few friends at school which never really bothered him. His grades were always satisfactory but he never pushed himself very hard to get them. Despite being so normal he always felt a little off from the rest of his friends and classmates but he never really picked up on the strange things happening around him as his magic grew. It was usually instances so small he could brush it off.
