Rhyspa stepped out into the looming shadow of the school she called home. She followed a well worn path, not caring where it led. She'd been everywhere in the school, and on the grounds. It was a warm, breezy day, the sky a clear blue and a few cloudy wisps. Rhyspa had her messenger bag draped over her shoulder like always. As she walked down the path, she began to think of what happened over her Christmas break. She didn't want to say no, but she had no choice but to. Her mind was caught up in her thoughts and she wasn't paying attention to where she was going. Rhyspa heard a birds song and it broke her out of her daze. She was standing infront of the cliffs.

Today was a good day for Kat...or at least it was better than most of her days had been. For starters she hadn't had to pry herself from the bed this morning nor had she had any dizzy spells as of yet, so all things considering it was a good day. After getting dressed Kat decided to take a walk out across the school grounds since she didn't have a class until later in the afternoon. It was absolutely beautiful outside...warm with a gentle breeze. It was perfection. Not really paying attention to where it was she was wandering to Kat merely enjoyed being out on this wonderful Summer day. After a little bit she saw a familiar figure standing out at the cliffs. It was one of her best friends whom she hadn't seen in what seemed like ages. Kat eased up behind her and gently grabbed at her sides saying in a loud tone, "Gotcha!"

Rhyspa stared straight ahead, looking at the beautiful view. It was absolutely breath-taking. Once again, she got caught up in her thoughts when hands grabbed her sides. Rhyspa gave a startled yelp and jumped slightly. Turning around Spa saw her best friend, Kat. Rhyspa grinned and hugged her friend.
"Hey!"

Kat returned Rhyspa's hug, but like her body it was weak at best. She smiled at her friend not realizing up until now just how much she'd missed her. "Long time no see stranger! How were your holidays?" If she remembered correctly her friend was supposed to have spent some time with Dominik and Kat was curious to know how their first Christmas together had been.

Rhyspa noticed Kat's hug wasn't as warm as they usually were. Automatically she knew something had to be wrong; she decided to bring it up later. Smiling at Kat, Spa began to tell her about her Christmas. "Well, I spent most of my holiday with my Mum and Callan. I missed mum loads and we always have a good time. I spent a week with my Da, and his wife Amiele," she said. Thinking about Dom, her smile faltered a bit. "I spent Christmas Eve with Dom. He proposed." Rhyspa stopped there, letting Kat chew on that bit of information for a moment.

"Aww, you're as bad as I am when it comes to missing your mum and sister. How bad was spending time with your father? It wasn't completely horrible was it," Kat asked, knowing that Rhyspa still held a bit of a grudge against her dad for leaving them. Then 'Spa dumped the mother of all news on her. "He...are you...what the...sweet Merlin. What did you say?" Kat was flabbergasted to say the least, but she simply just had to know more.

Rhyspa smiled slightly, "It wasn't all that bad. Ameile isn't awful. Dad wasn't a total arse." Rhyspa knew that she should forgive her father, but she wasn't ready just yet. The older girl had expected that reaction from her best friend. This was news she hadn't told anyone yet. "I told him no. Kat, I'm not ready to be engaged at 16, almost 17. I love him, and I explained that to him, but I'm just not ready. I told him to wait, just a while longer," Rhyspa said, a hint of sadness in her voice.

Kat's mouth was gaped open. She didn't even know what to say. This was the same boy that two years ago she and Rhyspa had hated, along with his best friend. She looked at her friends face and saw that she was sad about her decision, but knew she had made the right decision. "Well at least you were smart about it. You're much too young to be engaged. What did he think that you were just going to drop school and everything and marry him? He's gone off his rocker 'Spa," she said feeling flustered, but knew that this might upset her friend so she backpaddled and asked, "Are you okay with it? How'd he take the rejec...I mean the answer?"

"He understood. He wasn't angry, just a little disheartened," Rhyspa said. "I think he thought I didn't love him, but I really do." She sighed and quickly changed the conversation. "So, how have you been? Hows the love life?"

So maybe Dom wasn't such a bad guy after all. His friend Nic on the other hand, well Kat just hoped that he stayed under whatever rock it was he lived under. Chuckling just a little bit Kat replied, "He's still getting over Dragon Pox so not too much loving going on right now. Sumner's afraid he'll give them to me although I've assured him about a trillion times that I had them when I was little." Kat sat down lightly on the ground and sighed before adding, "Studying for these damned OWLs are about to get the better of me though. Not getting much sleep." That of course was a lie...all she did was sleep lately.

Rhyspa took a good look at her best friend. Her clothes hung on her too thin frame, her hair was limp, and her skin was sullen. She didn't look healthy at all. "Well, I'm glad he's worried about you," Rhyspa said with a slight smile. "Kat, you don't look so healthy yourself. Do you feel alright?" The girls voice was full of concern.

Kat rolled her eyes. Why was everyone all of a sudden so concerned about how healthy she did or didn't look. And what exactly looked unhealthy about her? "Geez, my health must be the new popular topic of concern around here. Don't you start with me too. I'm fine...just fine," she said with a hint of annoyance in her tone.

A bit put off by her friends behavior Rhyspa's eyes narrowed, "Well, excuse me for giving a damn." Kat needed help, and she knew it. Rhyspa wasn't about to stand by and watch her friend wither away to nothing. "When's the last time you had a decent meal, Kat?"

Kat's nostrils flared as she was getting more and more irritated with each passing second. First Andy had to start in on her, now Rhyspa was doing the same thing. She glared at her friend and said hatefully, "If you must know it was at breakfast this morning. Would you like a list of the things that I ate and how much of each of it I consumed?" In truth Kat had eaten breakfast this morning...or well at least she considered it eating. After the run-in with Andy the week before she'd made sure to attend each and every meal. She'd gotten very good at pushing the food around on her plate making it look like she'd eaten more than she actually had and she'd also made sure that when Andy had been looking at her she would take a small bite of food.

Rhyspa hated that Kat was acting this way. She had a feeling Kat was lying. The way she was so thin, she probably hadn't been eating at all lately. Rhyspa couldn't understand why Kat felt that way about her body. "Kat," she said, exasperated already. "I just don't want you to hurt yourself. I don't think I could take it if one of my friends actually died. Njord's death was fake, and that tore everyone up." Spa hated crying, but she was tearing up now as she thought of how thin and weak she was. "Kat, I couldn't handle that."

"OH MY GOD! I'm not going to die. Not anytime soon at least. In the name of Merlin why is everyone being so bloody adamant about nosing into my personal life?" Kat was beyond irritated right now even in the midst of Rhyspa's crying. She stood up and dusted herself off. "Listen I've got to go. I'm fine okay...quit being such a worry wart. I'll see you later," she said a little coldly and then she turned and walked off back towards the castle, now in a foul mood.
