The thought to contact the people he knew in New Zealand had not occurred to Cairo until he was well into his travels, with many places and photos already under his belt. But when it did cross his mind, the first person he had contacted was Madeline Walden. An unlikely friend as much as any of his friends since he was antisocial at the best times, but a friend nonetheless. A friend that saw through his introverted habits enough to be his friend on top of looking past what happened between him and Charlotte, and a friend that specifically crossed his mind before anyone else as he was curious to see how her holidays were fairing, how the end of her year had faired, and what she was looking forward to in their next year. Really he wanted to know everything and to most importantly listen rather than talk which was a dynamic their friendship allowed. He was conveniently a few hours away from the bustling area of Obsidian harbour when he thought to contact her and therefore organized to meet with her at a small cafe by the water's edge. It did not take him very long to get there so he arrived a few minutes early, taking the time to pick a table near the window and order himself a cup of coffee that would warm him from the cold. The cup was soon placed in front of him which he held between his palms to keep his hands warm while he waited.

The summer holidays had been largely uneventful for Maddie. She loved being home with her siblings and being able to spend time with her baby brother but she missed her friends. She made sure that she made time to write to Amy and Charlotte but they could never find a time where they were free to see each other. Surprisingly, or perhaps not, Maddie and Cairo has become a lot of closer over the past year and they wrote to each other constantly. She was in absolute awe of all the places that he had visited over the school holidays and the two teenagers had decided to meet up when Cairo was in New Zealand and Maddie couldn't wait to see him.

The day soon arrived and Maddie quickly grabbed her leather jacket and dashed out the door. Cairo and Maddie had decided to meet at a small cafe nearby the water which was idyllic. She walked past the window and spotted that Cairo had already found them a table and she beamed. Maddie knocked on the window and waved at the Slytherin boy before entering the shop. She ran over and pulled him into a massive hug "Oh Cairo! Hi!" she gushed "I've missed you!" she said, her head resting on his shoulder.

Cairo heard a knock on the window as he brought his cup of coffee to his lips. The sound nearly jolted him into spilling the drink all over himself, though he was luckily able to retain his composure as he looked to the source of the knocking. The culprit turned out to be his friend and Cairo felt his shoulders relax at the sight of the brunette Gryffindor. He smiled and waved back from inside the cafe and watched Madeline as she walked in and bounded towards him, putting his coffee back on the table in time to return her affectionate hug. "Hey! Missed you too." Cairo said with a chuckle as he wrapped his arms around his friend, squeezing her back and rocking her slightly. He did not even mind when she placed her head on his shoulder. Affection was usually not in his nature but Cairo was able to make an exception for Madeline who conversely seemed to have affection in her nature and showed it to everyone, whichever way she turned. It was one of the many contrasts he appreciated in their recently formed friendship. "Did you want me to get a cup of coffee, or a hot chocolate, or something, for you?" Cairo asked after pulling away from the hug, wanting to be polite and courteous to his friend as they had not seen each other in person since the end of the school year.
