Amanda was browsing through the shelves of books, looking for something interesting. Usually she would've just taken the first book she saw, but something was on her mind. Kate had invited her to a birthday party of someone she didn't know, but she introduced herself to the birthday girl. But she had had an odd feeling about the boy at the party. Amanda had never been interested in boys at all, she wasn't even sure if she was. But she got all nervous around him. She walked through an aisle of books and in an opening she saw the very face that had been dancing in her head for quite a while. It was a good thing he was in a different aisle, maybe he hadn't noticed her. Not wanting to embarrass herself further, she tried to walk away, but she tripped over a bump in the carpet. She sighed, why was it always her that became a huge klutz?

<COLOR color="#000">Vayne was casually searching for a book to help him study for his transfiguration class. He had always been interested in the said subject and when Vayne's interested in something, he'll do everything that he can to learn more about it. Humming to himself softly as he scanned the books Vayne smiled when he had finally found what he is looking for. Standing on his tiptoes to reach the said book, Vayne was a bit startled to hear a loud clash. Wondering where it came from, Vayne looked at his sides only to find a familiar face.

Summoning a smile to his face, Vayne walked towards the said person, offering his hands to help her stand up."Hi! Fancy seeing you here... are you alright?" Vayne said as he waited for the girl to accept his help. He hadn't seen the girl for a while now after all, he had last seen her on Roze's party where they have been both invited. She's also on a different house so it was very rare for them to meet at all.

Amanda sighed. She knew she would seem rude if she didn't take Vayne's hand to stand up, but she knew her face would turn red and she would embarrass herself further. Deciding the second option was better, she took his hand only as long as she needed to so she could stand up. Hoping her face wasn't too red, she replied, "Hi... I'm fine." Amanda stared at the ground, even though she was speaking to him. "Everything seems to jump in front of me as I'm walking." She laughed at her own joke, but it was a nervous laugh instead of her usual cheerful laugh.

Amanda tried to think of something to ask. But something came out of her mouth before she thought of what she was saying. "So what brings you here?" She felt like slapping herself, he was obviously looking for a book if he had been looking at a book shelf. She quickly thought of something else to say. "I mean, how are you?"

Vayne smiled when Amanda accepted his offer to help her stand up, he had actually thought that she would refuse seeing how long it took her to reach out her hand for him. "Great to see that you actually remember me, I was actually quite afraid that you'd forgotten.." Vayne said honestly as he watched Amanda stared at the ground. He noted that it was quite unusual for her to do, she seemed like a very cheerful person back in the party after all. "It seems so, so you should be more careful next time..." He then said as Amanda cracked up a joke, he noticed that she was rather nervous around him, he wondered why but had actually dismissed that thought.

An awkward silence filled the air as Vayne think about something that he should say, though they are in the library, it's quite unusual to not talk to someone whom you haven't seen for quite a long time after all isn't it? Vayne was glad that it was Amanda who broke the silence, he cannot think of anything to say after all. "What brings me here? Now that you said it, I've forgotten to get the book that I was searching for earlier. I'll get it first..." Vayne said as he remembered that he had not gotten the book at all since he quickly rushed off to helped Amanda. Standing on his tiptoes once again, Vayne tried to reach the old thick book which is situated on the highest part of the bookshelf, he cannot reach it at all. "Really, who put that book in there, how can the students reach it?" He said softly as he looked up to the book. He was actually devising a plan on how to get the said book because he really needs it, that is when he remembered that Amanda's with him. "Sorry, I was thinking about how I can get that book about transfiguration, I'll just get it later...anyways, I'm doing fine, how about you?" He asked with a smile, he would just left the book in its place, he can always get it later talking to a friend that he haven't seen for a while is more important, after all, if he cannot reach it, who could?

Amanda nodded. She wanted to reply saying that she could never forget him, and he had been the only thing she was thinking about ever since she met him. But that would be so embarrassing, and he probably didn't even think about her that way. She had to make herself stop thinking about saying that, or it might slip out of her mouth! Instead, she said, "Oh, I don't normally forget a face," still staring at the ground. Amanda realized that was why people weren't supposed to run inside. She had just followed that rule in the past, because it was a rule. She had to go back to following those, even under extreme circumstances.

Amanda felt bad when Vayne said he had been getting a book. She had interrupted him, all because she was a klutz. She looked up at the book he was trying to get. "Well, I think they should add more shelves, but shorter ones. There are some part-goblin students after all, and some of these books are to high for the professors!" She was trying to forget that Vayne was well, Vayne. Amanda tried to just think of him as someone who she happened to stumble upon in the library.

<COLOR color="#000">"That's great, I Don't forget someone whom I have met or seen before as well, no matter how short the conversation it is that we have." Vayne said with a smile, he was actually happy that he has something in common with Amanda. However, Vayne noticed that Amanda kept staring to the ground, and it kind of bugged him. He just can't get it why she won't look at him directly at all. "Pardon for asking, but, what's so interesting with the ground?" He asked inocently, looking at the ground as well to figure out why Amanda keeps on looking on it.

Vayne noted that what he had said before about getting the book may have made Amanda felt rather bad, he doesn't really mean it come off that way. Nevertheless, his smile brightened when Amanda had agreed how the books should be placed on the level that students can reach. "You said that right, how can students use the book when they're situated up there, well, there can be a couple of charms that can be used to summon those books.." He said with a slight laugh as he remembered one of the spells that was thought in their charms class. He can always use that spell but Vayne loves to do things using the natural way. He won't use magic if can. "Anyway, how have you been doing? Haven't heard of you since the party for roze.." Vayne said the words with lots of enthusiasm, sine he hadn't seen Amanda for a while. That's when he remembered that Amanda might be doing something important in the library as well. He had forgotten to ask that. "Hey Amanda, what are you doing here?"
<i>
</i>

Amanda nodded. She kept staring at the ground, trying to imagine that she was talking to somebody else... She almost jumped at the question. "I love the carpet," she said quickly. Then she realized how stupid that sounded. Amanda came up with something to add on to it. "I mean, it reminds me of the library I went to when I lived in the United States of America. I spent a lot of my time there, and I guess the style of carpet kind of stuck in my head. Do you find it rude?" This wasn't completely a lie, as it was almost the same carpet, but it wasn't why she was staring at the ground. She looked up, in case it seemed rude.

Amanda nodded again. "But what if we forget that charm? Or when we haven't learned it yet, and we need a book that's up there?" She knew the spell for summoning the books, but she didn't want to use a spell in front of Vayne. What if she messed up, and made the whole shelf collapse? Amanda would be so embarrassed, and she would probably hide under her blanket for days. "Oh, I've been great," she said, a small smile forming on her face. "And you? And I'm just here, looking for something to read in my spare time. Anything, really."

Vayne was quite surprised at how fast Amanda can recover and answer his questions. It's quite amusing for him really. As if verifying what Amanda had said, Vayne turned to look at the said carpet. It's quite detailed if he may say. "I see what you mean, the carpet is beautiful ne? Though it's actually the reason why you tripped earlier.." Vayne said with a light chuckle as he remembered what had transpired earlier. "Sorry, it's not that i find it funny... forgive me for laughing..." He added as he composed himself.

"No, don't worry, I don't think that it's rude,... it's just that, I though that it's not like you at all, the way you stare at the ground I mean...."
Vayne said softly, he cannot really fully say what he thinks. He just can't find the right words for it.

Vayne nodded, agreeing to Amanda's words. "Yes, I do think that you are right, but we can't do anything about it, maybe we can tell the librarian, but she just seems so busy.." Vayne said randomly as he remembered how the librarian looked earlier. She just seemed so busy with the cataloging of the books.

"Great to hear that.. well, I've been doing fine as well, thank you for asking....." Vayne said with a smile. He's not lying when he said that, his days at Hogwarts has been really great, he had met lots of friends that he'll surely miss during the vacation. "I'm not interrupting you, am I?" Vayne added with a worried look. He would really feel bad if he's disturbing Amanda and if he's preventing her from doing what she's supposed to be doing.

Amanda giggled nervously. "Yeah, it's true it tripped me," she said. "But at least it looks nice. And it's fine. Laughter, as long as it's not cruel, is the best medicine. Medicine for what, I don't know. But it's medicine. People always say that, so it kind of led me to make jokes." She shrugged.

Amanda quickly thought of a lie. "Oh, I don't usually go around staring at the floor," she said. "I've just been feeling awfully homesick lately. Not for my home in New Zealand, the one I used to have back in Boston. And I just noticed as I tripped over this carpet that it's like the one at the library there." She sighed, hoping it was convincing enough.

Amanda nodded. "She must be busy, I've heard some people are ruining the books." She paused. "Not the actual books. But they're putting them in random places. I mean honestly, she has enough work as it is what with all the students in here. Sometimes almost a whole shelf is empty."

Amanda nodded again. "Oh, you weren't interrupting me at all, don't worry," she said. "Really, it was just something to do in my free time. It's not like I needed it. Talking to a friend takes up time just as well."

Vayne nodded in agreement when Amanda told him how laughter seems to be the best medicine. It's quite true for him. "Well, that's true, and it's really kind of you to do that.. to make jokes I mean, it brightens up the day of those people who hear that, it's great to see someone smile or laugh especially if you're the cause of it..." Vayne said with a deep thought. He had always like the girl's positive aura, just like the first time that he had seen her. "Well, now that I remember, you were quite funny back in Roze's party ne? I like the birthday song.." He added randomly with another light laugh. He just remembered their different versions of the birthday song that they had sung for Roze.

"It feels nostalgic ne? when you see things that are just like those back at you home, you cannot help but to miss it, but don't worry, you'll sure get back there again, maybe not now... but in future someday.." Vayne said with a smile as he tried to comfort Amanda about her being homesick. Though he was also quite sure that Amanda is hiding something, Vayne decided to buy what she had said. She won't lie if there's no reason for it, will she?

Vayne shook his head in disapproval when Amanda told her that some people are ruining the books in the library, not literally but still ruining it. "I feel bad for her... maybe I can offer some help for her when there's time..." He said softly as he scratched his head a little, thinking about his schedule. Vayne really like the library, and if he can help, he'll help. "And if I do help her, then I'll quickly remind her about our grievance about books being put in such high places.." He added with a smile.

"Really? Well, would you like me to help you pick a book then if you wouldn't mind, find a seat?" Vayne said as he looked at his surrounding. If Amanda wouldn't be so busy and would have time to talk, he would really love to hear some stories from her.

Amanda nodded. She decided not to nod anymore, no matter how shy she was. Her neck was hurting. "It makes me feel good, it makes the people laughing feel good, it's a win-win situation," she said happily. She giggled, remembering the birthday party and how the people there had laughed at her version. Amanda had to hand it to her muggle friends, the song was pretty funny. "Yeah. Everyone has the power to make someone laugh. Whether they use it or not, that's up to them."

Amanda smiled hopefully. "I know it's a long time away because I'm only a first year, but when I graduate I'll celebrate by going back. Visit all the places I remember, and ask my parents to tell me some places I don't so I can go there... And maybe even seeing my muggle friends all grown up, going off to college." This wasn't a lie at all. Amanda did plan on doing this, in fact she couldn't wait. But she had to. She loved Hogwarts, but it sounded so fun to go back there.

"Yeah, if I have free time I'll help her out... I mean, I have a lot of free time but it depends on how much I have. At times it's only five minutes, at others almost an hour. Some homework takes me a while. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to writing." Amanda smiled remembering how her language arts teachers back in Boston at her muggle school had always loved her writing. Now the conversation really was making her homesick. "And it would be rude to just tell her that there's a problem and not help her out with the problems already piling up in front of her."

"Sure," Amanda said, smiling. "I was really having trouble finding one myself. I could have just taken the first one I saw, but I'm not in that mood today." She shrugged.

"I believe in that as well, though I am not that funny.. really.. not as funny as you..it's amazing, how you can bring smile to everyone around you" Vayne said truthfully, a light blush showing in his face as he looked down a little so as to not let Amanda see it. "It's a great feeling, making others happy.. I wish I can do that to.." He added softly as he looked at Amanda once again when he was completely sure that he's not blushing anymore.

Vayne smiled as Amanda told him about her plans in the future. He kind of envy her, she's so determined, while he, he was not entirely sure what he'll do. "You have laid out your plans quite nicely ne? I haven't thought of what I'll do once I graduate from here.. I just love this place.. but maybe, I'll go visit my grandparents.." He said. He was really planning to go back to Japan, the place where he was born, so that he can check how his grandparents were doing. He was really missing them after all, especially since he had already lost his parents.

"I guess you're really busy ne? You're great, I'm trying to sort out my schedule actually, since I'm planning to study harder..." Vayne said with a laugh, it was true. He was really determined to do do great in all his classes. "Maybe I'll help her out once the exams are done.. she'll be really busy then since lots of students will surely go here to study..." He added, he's quite sure with this since he knows that he'll be one of the students who'll go to the library to review for the exams. "It sure is hard work for her, she'll need a hand.."

Vayne nodded to Amanda. He was really relieved that Amanda had accepted his offer, he was actually quite scared that she'll reject him. "So, what genre do you like?" HE said, putting his hands at his pocket, while he walked to Amanda's side so they can search the library together.

Amanda blushed at the compliment. "Oh, thanks..." she said. She shook her head. "That's nonsense, anyone can make someone laugh. Maybe it's just harder for you than for me because I'm a natural comedian. But anyone can be one. I thought there was a book around here filled with jokes..." She looked around, and her eyes stopped on a green book. She pulled it out. "This book is full of jokes. I'm not kidding. Even on the title page. Anyway, don't use the jokes, just read through them. Once you start thinking comedy, you can make comedy." She handed the book to Vayne.

Amanda smiled. "Really? That sounds nice, family's always nice..." She thought about her brother. "Well, I also plan to have a huge party with my family. I'll be celebrating my brother's graduation in a few years. He goes to Beauxbatons." She missed her brother, she always did. Every minute of every day was spent thinking about him. But Amanda knew letters could tide her over to the day she hugged her brother again. She wished that the day would come sooner, and would hurry up. But she knew she had to be patient.

"Yeah, I've been trying to study more, too. But it never works out well," Amanda said with a sigh. "I do just fine on tests and quizzes, but I always end up getting distracted when I try t study... after a while, at least. It's a habit that I'm trying to get rid of." She had to find somewhere to go to study. In the common room or in her dorm she got distracted by people. And in the library Amanda always went to read a book instead of studying.

"Oh, I really like any kind," Amanda said. "Mysteries, fantasy, romance-" She paused awkwardly. "Sorry, thought I saw a book I've read," she lied. "Anyway, almost any type of book will do."

"No need to thank me really, I'm just stating the obvious.." Vayne said when Amanda thanked him. "But since you thanked me, it's just formal that I say, You're welcome ne?" He added with a smile as he looked around him. Vayne then listened as Amanda tells him how anyone can make anyone laugh, it kind of lightens his spirit if he may say. It was just great to hear something like that from a friend.

Vayne was brought out of his stupor when Amanda handed him a huge green book. Looking at the title itself just make Vayne stifle out a laugh. So, as he had noticed, Amanda was set out to help him be more funny. "Great, thanks for the book, I'm going to learn a lot from here.." He said as he flipped the books pages and scanned through them. Vayne cannot help but express his amusement as he read some of the lines that he had to clasped his hands on his mouth to prevent himself from further laughing. "I guess I can't read it here.. probably at the common room later.., I'm going to be kicked out at this library at this very moment if I keep on doing that.." He said as he shut the book tight and tucked it under his arms.

"You have a brother? That's great, how many siblings do you have? I'm an only child..."
Vayne inquired as Amanda told him how his brother would be graduating in just a few years. Vayne had never really had the chance to have siblings of his own, his parents had passed away when he was just nine. Nevertheless, he felt quite fine with it since he have lots of cousins.

"I guess it can't be helped..I too can get easily distracted at times.. that's why I made it my resolve to enhance my focus this semester.. but as I have noticed, I'm failing at it miserably, I need to strengthen my resolve I guess.." Vayne said with a light chuckle. Every now and then, he would plan to do some advance study. He would often go to the library but he can never really get any work done. There are just lots of distractions that he cannot just get rid of. "Hey, I have an idea, do you want to have a joint review study for the exam?" He inquired with a tilt of his head.

Vayne nodded to show that he's listening as Amanda told him the genres that she liked. After she's done, he stopped a little to look at the various books around him and to think of a good suggestion that Amanda will surely find to be interesting. "Hmm.. how about mystery then? I've read a book here that is about entombing people alive.. it's quite unnerving, but it's great.." He said wistfully as he tried to remember the title of the said book.

Amanda smiled. "Yes, well thanks anyway," she said. "I mean, everyone - even obvious-staters, should be thanked. Although not many people really stop and thank them. If that makes sense. I mean, someone picks up something I dropped, I thank them. Others, well, they might not..." She paused, feeling stupid. "Sorry for going off like that, I just have a lesson to teach some people in this world. Now if only they would pay attention in class..." Amanda winked to let Vayne know this was a joke. And a pretty good one if she did say so herself.

Amanda grinned, watching Vayne laugh. A laugh always made her happy. Except for when people were laughing at someone, not with them. That was the kind of laugh that annoyed her. "Yeah, it's probably best that you wait until you're somewhere noisier... Nobody will notice you cracking up." She hoped it helped Vayne. Maybe it wouldn't. In that case, Amanda might have to give some super awesome comedy lessons.

"Just one brother," she said. "I think one is about all I can handle." She smiled again. "Just kidding, I love him. We just like to pretend we don't." She remembered how she had been tickled when she was younger. It had annoyed her then, but now she missed it. Amanda shook her head, coming back to the conversation.

Amanda nodded, listening to Vayne speak. She smiled at the idea he had. "Sure," she said. "Then we can keep each other on track and help each other not get distracted." She knew this would help. A person could tell her that she shouldn't get distracted by something and make her listen, her conscience could not. Amanda wanted to go to the conscience store and buy a better one, but she didn't know where one might be.

Amanda's eyebrow raised. "Entombing people alive, eh?" she said. "That sounds... interesting to say the least." She wondered how many books were in the library. There were tons of shelves, and tons of books on every shelf. One of her goals was to read every book in the library by the time she graduated. It was an odd goal, but she wanted to do it.

"I can understand what you mean.. everyone's just different... we can expect that every person would do what we want them to do or what we think is right for them to do.." Vayne said with a gentle smile at Amanda. "I bet you'll be a geart teacher then.." He added with a light chuckle.

Vayne patted Amanda's head to show his appreciation for everything that she's doing for him. It's just that, not everyone would be willing to go great lengths just to help someone be more funny. It's just unusual. "Hmm... alright.. I'll take your advice.." He said, hoping that Amanda won't be offended with him patting her head.

"It;s fun to have a sibling ne? You can play pranks and even share your problems with them.." Vayne said smiling once again, sometimes, he must admit that he do wish to have a sister or a brother too.

Vayne was very delighted when Amanda had agreed with his idea. At least, they can both help each other in studying for their upcoming exams. "Great! Thanks Amanda, I promise i'll do my best to help you.." He said with a grin.

Vayne chuckled at Amanda's expression when he offered one of the books that he had once read in the library. He had not really expected that response from her. "Well, it is interesting.. it's a macabre story.." He said with a laugh. "I don't really know any romance genre type of book here.." He then added with a warm smile.
