With exams winding down, and quidditch on hold until after the holidays Merrill found herself not quite sure to do with all her free time. Between classes, and quidditch she had barely had any time to herself all semester. The young girl had already written to her parents, and told them she planned to stay at the castle over the break. In their response they had seemed distant, but she figured it was because they were disappointed she wouldn't be with them for the holidays. Not that her family ever did typical holiday activities. In fact at the very moment they were in Brazil following a lead that one of their contacts had given them. Merrill shook the thought from her head. Thinking about her parents job gave her stomach aches.
Thankfully she wasn't bored for long because the last day of class marked yule ball. She was so excited to actually be going this year. With a date, and everything. Sure she could have gone with Solomon, but this was different.
Lucas was her boyfriend, and not just a friend who happened to be a boy. During the last break she had spent a whole day picking out her dress for the dance. She wanted to look perfect for the night. Evelyn's help would have been nice, but she was still upset that Merrill was dating Lucas. It's stupid. She didn't like him. Why does she care if I do? It upset Merrill quiet a bit. Don't think about that tonight.
As they got to the doors to the great hall Merrill turned towards Lucas. "Hey I've been thinking. Maybe instead of going to the dance we can just hang out? Alone?" Merrill asked. So far they hadn't been able to have a date uninterrupted since winter break, and just knew it would happen again if they walked into the great hall. "I know a place we can go." Merrill grabbed her boyfriends hand, and led him back up the stairs to the second floor. "I noticed this empty classroom last year in charms." She explained.
