The day was growing to a close, and stepping out of the library, Alice found herself closing her eyes to think. The week had flown by, with Transfiguration at the beginning, soon followed by Defence Against the Dark Arts and then Potions. Sighing to herself as she slipped her bag further on her shoulder, she weighed her homework before taking out the big book she had just borrowed and holding it in her hand. The walk to the Ravenclaw common room was slightly too far to anticipate currently, so taking a small detour and heading to the window of the 4th floor corridor, Alice smiled to herself before letting out a patient sigh. Running a hand through her long dark curls, she tugged at a knot before giving up and pushing it away. Her hair was a trial, and no matter how much other people told her how nice it was, she could never quite convince herself enough to believe them. She had always wanted blonde hair, and having darker hair had never produced any specific opportunities that blonde hair didn't. It was one of those pet annoyances, and she had learnt that no one was fully happy with how they looked, but wishing that there could just be one day as a blonde, she began to think about it more deeply. Her parents would freak out and get cross, and she knew that in the muggle world blondes were seen as dumb, but unsure whether this was a problem for magical people, she smirked to herself at the thought. Perhaps it was time to be happy with how she was, and focus on something bigger than mere hair.
Rolling her eyes inwardly at herself, she pulled up her legs to tuck them under herself on the window seat and leant back against the cool stone frame. It felt relaxing and peaceful there and snatching her book before it toppled off the side of her leg, she opened it at the first chapter and began to read. The book was one of her favourites, an old wizarding classic that she had recently acquired from a friend in an older year, but when she was only half way through, they had had a need to retake it back and re read it. This hadn't been an issue as such, just rather inconvenient and the time it had taken for her to find it in the library over the past few weeks had been just long enough for her to forget the whole book's stories and all the things she had read. So, deciding that it could only be fun to have as much joy re reading the stories again, she had opened the book and begun to read. It didn't take long though for her concentration to lapse back into complete blankness and finding herself reading the same page for the 5th time, she sighed, marked the page and closed the book. Dropping it back into the opening of her bag, she looked out of the window before turning around to find herself staring into a very familiar face.
